  5. Besides, I have already acknowledged that protectionism and isolationism have won out. The R party of today is no longer the party of Ronald Reagan that I joined and worked for years to promote. It is a populist party without any conservative vision to guide it. I have no illusions about it ever being my party again, and contrary to Chicon above, I have no ambitions for a “pure conservative” party, that train left the station long ago.

I remember how incensed Amoral Scumbag was that I said 2014 was a dead cat bounce for the “Reagan R” party. He was adamant that the suburban Rs would rise again and keep the riffraff working class out of the party. He hated it when I said working class populism was the only survival mode for the party. He liked to say I left the party because of Trump although I repeatedly said Trump was the symptom, not the cause of the populist, isolationist and protectionist movement within the party.

However, what is happening now is that the deadenders consider the win a permanent shift in the general electorate, and as Albertus Idioticus says, MAGA is now a majority. It isn’t and the small shift in the electorate that changed from 2020 to 2024 could easily shift back in the future. MAGA is a majority within the 45% of the R and R leaning electorate just as far leftism and wokeness is the majority in the 45% of the D and D leaning electorate.

We already have a candidate for non-sequitur of the day.

    But there will be others.

Right now, we have “people who call anyone who is not 100% pure litmus tested fire breathing Trump cultists RINOS and traitors” calling others “intolerant”.

  7. Walz says he is sad the American electorate didn’t want his leadership

“I think we’re going to have to understand — what type of leadership do they (Americans) want?” Walz explained to WCCO-TV. “We were pledging to be inclusive. We were pledging to bring people in.”

“Donald Trump has said that that isn’t what he wants, and so if that’s what America is leaning towards, I guess for me, it’s to understand and learn more about America because I thought that they were going to probably move towards a more positive message.”

Rusty Weiss at Redstate is not having it:

“Huh. Yeah, it’s hard to believe that describing voters as “garbage” and basically linking them to Nazis and ‘literally Hitler’ wasn’t quite received as the positive message you had hoped for, Tim.

“It felt like at the rallies, at the things I was going to, the shops I was going in, that the momentum was going our way, and it obviously wasn’t at the end,” the Governor lamented. “So yeah, I was a little surprised. I thought we had a positive message, and I thought the country was ready for that.”

“The oldest known wild bird in the world has laid an egg at the ripe age of about 74, her first in four years, U.S. wildlife officials said.

The long-winged seabird named Wisdom, a Laysan albatross, returned to Midway Atoll National Wildlife Refuge at the northwestern edge of the Hawaiian Archipelago and laid what experts estimate may be her 60th egg, the Pacific Region of the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service said in a Facebook post this week.

Wisdom and her mate, Akeakamai, had returned to the atoll in the Pacific Ocean to lay and hatch eggs since 2006. Laysan albatrosses mate for life and lay one egg per year. But Akeakamai has not been seen for several years and Wisdom began interacting with another male when she returned last week, officials said.”

Spanish newspapers are reporting of a possible relocation of Zelenskyy to London, as his military throws their weapons down leaving the front lines. Blinken and Jake Sullivan, OTOH, continue to press Zelenskyy to lower the recruitment age to 18 so even more young men can die…..for what? That was “parading, protesting, picketing” inside a Capitol building in violation of 40 U.S.C. Zzzzz….

Trump can’t “slash” any aid. What has been approved and is in the pipeline will go.

Trump could veto future aid bills or ask Johnson not to bring them up. I doubt Thune will refuse to bring up Ukraine aid bills. And there are probably enough votes in both the House and Senate to override any veto.

However, he met with Zelensky again yesterday and I think the Putinistas are going to be disappointed/

I know Bitter disagrees, but my view is Trump will not abandon Ukraine or let it be annexed on his watch despite what he said during the campaign.

His leverage with Putin is exactly to offer Ukraine even better weaponry. And yes, his leverage with Zelensky is the opposite, to cut him off.

Russia and the Putinistas “alarmed by events in Syria” and urges the rebels Russia has been bombing to “refrain from violence”.

“Russia operates the Hmeimim air base in Syria’s Latakia province which it has used to launch airstrikes against rebels in the past, and has a naval facility at Tartous on the coast.

The Tartous facility is Russia’s only Mediterranean repair and replenishment hub, and Moscow has used Syria as a staging post to fly its military contractors in and out of Africa.

Losing Tartous in particular would be a serious blow to Russia’s ability to project power in the Middle East, the Mediterranean and Africa, say Western military analysts.

Russian war bloggers, some of whom are close to the Russian Defence Ministry and get more freedom from Russian authorities to speak out than military officials, have warned that the bases are now dangerously exposed regardless of what Moscow says officially.

The Foreign Ministry said Moscow was alarmed by events in Syria.

“We urge all parties involved to refrain from the use of violence and to resolve all issues of governance through political means,” its statement said.”In that regard, the Russian Federation is in contact with all groups of the Syrian opposition.”

  97. Assad is gone. He has fled his country. His protector, Russia, Russia, Russia, led by Vladimir Putin, was not interested in protecting him any longer. There was no reason for Russia to be there in the first place. They lost all interest in Syria because of Ukraine, where close to 600,000 Russian soldiers lay wounded or dead, in a war that should never have started, and could go on forever. Russia and Iran are in a weakened state right now, one because of Ukraine and a bad economy, the other because of Israel and its fighting success. Likewise, Zelenskyy and Ukraine would like to make a deal and stop the madness. They have ridiculously lost 400,000 soldiers, and many more civilians. There should be an immediate ceasefire and negotiations should begin. Too many lives are being so needlessly wasted, too many families destroyed, and if it keeps going, it can turn into something much bigger, and far worse. I know Vladimir well. This is his time to act. China can help. The World is waiting!

Tina supports Assad who killed over 600k Syrians propped up by Putin.

The HTS, one of the largest groups, severed links to Al quaeda in 2016.
