  8. Went to a musical performance at Shepherd University. WAs a fund raiser to benefit the NC, etc. flood victims and communities in Appalachia that were hit by the hurricane and floods. It was a great show. Lots of variety in the music. the professors and music students at SU put it together and performed. They had a slice so=how in the background showing the flood area and mountains in good times, and immediately after the devastation and during recovery operations. Got some dust in my eyes…especially when they sang the Hazel Dickens song, “West Virginia, My Home”. I know the words to that song and it was one of the first songs I learned to play on the guitar.

Hazel Dickens only had a 6th grade education, but was not too many years ago (and before her death), SU awarded her an honorary degree. She wrote the song after she left WV and moved to a rented row house Baltimore.

    West Virginia, oh, my home
    West Virginia’s where I belong
In the dead of the night in the still and the quiet
I slip away like a bird in flight
Back to those hills – the place that I call home

It’s been years now since I left there
And this city life’s about got the best of me
I can’t remember why I left so free
What I wanted to do – what I wanted to see
But I can sure remember where I come from

    West Virginia, oh, my home
    West Virginia’s where I belong
In the dead of the night in the still and the quiet
I slip away like a bird in flight
Back to those hills – the place that I call home

Well I’ve paid the price for the leavin’
This city life’s not the one I thought I’d find
Well let me live, love – let me cry
When I go just let me die
Among the friends who’ll remember when I’m gone

    West Virginia, oh, my home
    West Virginia’s where I belong
In the dead of the night in the still and the quiet
I slip away like a bird in flight
Back to those hills – the place that I call home

    Home, home, home!
Oh I can see it so clear in my mind
    Home, home, home!
I can almost smell the honeysuckle vine
In the dead of the night in the still and the quiet
I slip away like a bird in flight
Back to those hills, the place that I call home, home

“It’s simply that Matt Gaetz has a very long, steep hill to get across the finish line,” said Sen. Kevin Cramer (R., N.D.). “And it will require the spending of a lot of capital, and you just have to ask: if you could get him across the finish line, was it worth the cost?”

Cramer said he didn’t think Gaetz would have the votes to be approved by the Judiciary Committee, much less to be confirmed by the full Senate.

One person familiar with the conversations among Republican senators said “significantly more than four” of them are opposed, which would be enough to tank Gaetz’s chances. “People are pissed,” the person said.

Other estimates ranged from more than a dozen Republican “no” votes to more than 30. “It won’t even be close,” another person said.

Tyson looked good in round 1 and 2…then the only undefeated in the world, Father Time, caught up quickly and Tyson could barely stand, much less punch, the last five rounds. That Paul couldn’t even hurt him says a lot about how Paul really is as a fighter. Put him in the ring with Prime Time Mike, or any of the other great heavyweights, and its a first round KO. Did you see how low his hands were after getting knocked around by Tyson round one.

Very anti-climactic, but have to give Tyson all the “cred” in the world. He was Sigma for just getting into the ring, and still has rizz that others will never have.

    1. He thought he was going to win. Throughout the summer, into September, polls consistently showed him ahead, sometimes as much as 10 points, mostly around 6 or so, He believed them. He never campaigned in Central PA, for example, did not see ONE event advertised for this area.
    2. His ads were 90% geared to 3 different attack themes
    3. HEDGE FUND – McCormick’s hedge fund invested in China, China is a fentanyl producer, so McCormick got “rich selling fentanyl”. It was supposed to be a killer charge, the problem is no one believes that, no matter how many ads you run. It was a ridiculous argument even for the low info voter.

Yeah, he went to West Point, has a Master’s and PhD from Princeton, and ran the largest hedge fund company in the world, Bridgewater and was successful. So?
    5. ABORTION. A horrible issue to campaign for Casey, who was supposed to be a pro-life moderate. Running on abortion just showcased what a fraud he was on the issue, he was now voting for no restriction on abortion up to day of birth despite being “pro life” for his first 3 campaigns.

In the end, Casey thought his name and cheap shots at McCormick was enough to win. Nothing more was needed.

They voted for eliminating the filibuster. They voted for doing away with any checks on election integrity. They supported statehood for DC. They voted for monstrous spending bill and trillions in infrastructure boondoggles. They supported green new deal ideas that would gut the economy.

    Want, yes.

But of course, Chicon as the pathological liar that he is, lies about my position again.

I have always stated that a deal that returned Russia to pre-invasion borders would be an acceptable, if painful, compromise.

It would allow Russia to continue to occupy Crimea illegally plus the parts of the Dombas that it had already illegally usurped.

So “every inch of Ukraine” is another of Chicon many lies.

  91. No chance the settlement of the Ukraine war involves a return to pre-invasion borders. The fault for this resides with Hero of Ukraine and Patron Saint of The Ostriches, Joe Biden. It was Joe who did nothing as Vlad put troops on the border, and then put crippling restrictions on the use of weapons. All well convincing the world that they were “concerned” about Ukraine.

The Ostriches will blame Trump for the outcome of Joe’s eff up.

The Tyson fight showed, again, that father time is undefeated. You could absolutely see flashes of old Tyson, and if this had been a three round fight Tyson would have won. But he was done by the middle of round 3. He tried to do some things he used to do, but his reaction time was so much slower than it was before. He used to have hands of lightning, no one saw what was coming. But he just couldn’t pull the trigger. His legs were like spaghetti by round four. The fact that he lasted ten rounds of the best Paul could give should tell Paul to never fight again. A 27 year old Tyson would have crushed Paul in the middle of round one, hell, he stunned him and almost put him on his back.

The stream was AWFUL!!! Who the hell thought that Rosie Perez would be acceptable as a lead commentator on the biggest fight in a long time. WTF

Indeed I will oppose any plan that:

    1. Rewards Putin with territory he conquered beyond the pre-invasion borders. There is no justification of why this should be acceptable to the US or the European community.
    2. Fails to seek reparations from Russia for the damage to Ukraine’s cities and infrastructure and the tens of thousands of civilians killed.
    3. Fails to hold accountable the Russian military that either engaged or were complicit in war crimes.

I hope that is clear enough for Chicon.

  102. Pre-invasion borders as a baseline for settling the Ukraine/Russia war is delusional. Some say there could be a million deaths attributed to this war on both sides. But, because accurate statistics are not revealed, we will probably never know. However, with so much sacrificed, and with the smaller country on the ropes without Western or European aid, you’ve got someone jutting their chin out and belligerently demanding the impossible. Now, if Jason, like was asked of Liz Chaney, were to volunteer his services, and go over to fight on the front lines for Ukraine, I would at least respect his zeal as an active fighter rather than an armchair warrior type.

  106. I can not believe we are still arguing, and insulting each other over the Ukraine situation. No one here has experience there, and no one here (very obviously) has any idea of what its was like, or what it is like in the Ukraine, or Ukrainian politics. There is such a thing as nuance, and believe it or not, this how international politics/relations really works. You never get all of what you want…which is the definition of compromise, neither sides is satisfied. Yes, I said all this, and know I will be derided for it, but so be it.

    1. There was no pre-war deal offered to Zelensky and the Ukraine that would have stopped the war. Russia knew it, the UK knew it, the US knew it. I don’t care what anonymous sources or Gateway Pundit told anyone.
    2. The Donbass was always going to be gone. It has always been pro-Russian, the people there called themselves Russian BEFORE the invasion, and Russia was going to expand there no matter what.
    3. Stop with the grift crap. There has always been historical corruption in Ukraine, and there will be long after this is over, but nowhere on the scale people are claiming. There are no yachts, etc etc. The weapons et al brought in were all excess or old. Hell, you would be shocked to know how much ex-Russian and even Soviet arms were part of the deals for weapons put into the war for Ukraine.
    4. Zelensky has done an admirable job stopping the Russian march. He has done what he has needed to do to protect his country.
    5. NATO does matter. The reason for the capture of Donbass was not to repatriot ethnic Russians to Russia, it was to create a further buffer zone that Putin, in his insane dictatorial mind believes he needs to stop NATO from buffering up against their borders. The guys is a megalomaniacal pig, whose probably going senile, and truly believes this. I do not believe that NATO membership will be on the table, too many members will oppose it.
    6. The peace deal will involved Donbass remaining as part of Russia, just like Crimea under Obama. Returning to pre-war borders will not happen, no matter how much money we throw at it. What I hope that Trump can extract is payment for war crimes, and some retribution for war crimes committed, in addition to ending the war.
    7. Ukraine will be subject to the biggest rebuilding project of our times. You thought billions would be poured into fighting the war, that number will pale in comparison to the amount of money that is going to be spent on the rebuild, led by UK, USA and some European firms. That will be the next HHR fight…is there grift in the rebuild…

Can we please stop arguing about this and insulting each other. Jesus. I get having differences of opinions, but calling each other stupid, moron, etc when we have known each other for 20+ years is sad.

  107. In the midst of all his gratuitous attacks on me Walt did pose a legitimate question.

    A. shows Trump is Trump and digs in his heals, forces the Senate to deny recess appointments, Gaetz does NOT get confirmed and then Trump goes to war with all the Republicans in the Senate and splits Republicans nationwide and creates a bad situation and mayhem thus poisoning the well–even before he is sworn in as president and at the same time gives the left and MSM huge ammo to begin beating him over the head with for the next 4 years.

    B. pulls the nomination and nominates someone with more competence and less baggage.

B would be my preference of course.

“ “Yesterday, the Kyiv authorities, for the first time in all of the previous years, declared their readiness to reach agreements with Russia. They gave us the written principles of a possible future agreement,” Medinsky said.

CHAKRABARTI: He went on to say the principles include Ukraine’s willingness not to join NATO, a renunciation of nuclear weapons, as well as possessing, acquiring, and developing of other weapons of mass destruction.

A commitment to hold military drills with foreign military participation only upon agreement with guarantor states among which would be the Russian Federation. Of course, that was what Medinsky said the Ukrainians were willing to do. The same day, the top negotiator for the Ukrainian side. David Arakhamia told reporters that a final agreement could be near.”

  121. While so many are voicing concerns over the Gaetz AG nomination there are those who are rejoicing. Below is a Breitbart editorial reprinted in Dr Robert Malone’s substack:

Gaetz is precisely what the Department of Justice deserves “after abusing its power to pursue President Donald Trump and his supporters in flagrantly partisan prosecutions.”

In my opinion, Gaetz is exactly what the DoJ needs to clean up the rot that has stunk up the halls of the DoJ long enough! He is smart and a bulldog with an investigatory ability to follow a stink to its rotting core.

I can’t wait to see who he prosecutes regarding the persecution of the 467J-6ers, who have or are serving prison sentences. Some of the protestors, like my friend John Strand, ended up in prison for years – in his case, he committed no crime. In many cases, the individuals imprisoned did nothing more than protest.

The raid at Mar-A-Lago was a stain on the United States of America. A full investigation of that event needs to happen immediately.

Gaetz won’t back down from a fight, and I look forward to what he accomplishes in his new role!
