Despite (or maybe because of )spending billions, California’s homeless problem continues to grow. A Starbucks about a mile away from where I am at is the latest business closing because of problems with transients:
“One of the oldest Starbucks in San Diego is closing down. It’s about a mile away from where I am at. Despite California spending billions, the homeless problem gets worse and worse — and the underlying cause: drug use — primarily meth, fentanyl & crack.
“despite being a profitable store, is there’s a lot of pressure for employees to deal with when it comes to the homelessness situation in the area.
“They’ve had to remove all of the retail items. They’ve had to remove all of the tables and chairs. They’ve had to lock the bathroom just because of the hostile behavior of a lot of the homeless community,” Nicholls said.
Others who work in the area have heard similar stories.
“They’ve had a lot of incidents with people stealing drinks and throwing chairs,” Clark said. “This block has gotten a little wild, so I understand why they have to go.”
The Starbucks spokesperson also told ABC 10News the cause of not being able to provide that safe and welcoming environment is a comprehensive evaluation of store factors — not specifically tied to homelessness or those who are homeless.”

In California the billions budgeted for homeless services is being used to fund permanent new government programs:
In Los Angeles County, homeless services are coordinated by the Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority (LAHSA). According to Transparent California, in 2014 LAHSA had 118 employees, nine of whom made over $100,000 a year. As the homeless population grew so did LAHSA’s staff: By 2018, the agency had grown to 424 employees, with 31 earning six figures and another 16 earning more than $90,000. The Director pulled down $242,242 (coincidentally nearly identical to Mr. Roberts’s salary at PATH). Assuming an average salary of $50,000 LAHSA spends $21.5 million annually on salaries alone. As LAHSA has grown so has the county’s homeless crisis. Coincidence?
At the state level, the Department of Social Services employs more than 4,200 people whose jobs – theoretically – are to help California’s poorest residents get back on their feet. Nearly 100 employees make more than $200,000 a year, with the Director, William Lightbourne, receiving $313,760. And the state’s homeless crisis grows. Coincidence?
These numbers, which are just a few of myriad examples, raise obvious questions: What would those 424 LAHSA employees do for a living if they were to actually end homelessness in Los Angeles? The answer is equally obvious: If they were to eliminate homelessness and poverty, they’d have to find new jobs. And no one in their right mind intentionally puts themselves out of work.
It’s important to understand that these people are not contractors, nor consultants hired to solve a problem and then move on to the next one. They are full-time, salaried employees. Public employees also receive generous benefits packages and as many as 45 days of paid vacation annually (many take even more time off). Presumably most of them expect to have their jobs for years and decades, and many will retire with their nonprofit or government agency. For that to happen the homeless crisis must continue in perpetuity.”

There is no incentive for them to reduce homelessness. It would just eliminate their jobs.

Has anyone checked yet to see if there was anyone who was about to testify against Biden and was on the doomed Titanic tourist submersible?
I read one article that alleged that the submersible was controlled by a joystick pulled from a playstation, and it had lights bought at Camping World. As the old saying goes, the Sea is unforgiving. The Deep Sea is much more deadly.
The radical left is eager to get us to Mars, but we cannot seem to get people back and forth safely to the wreck of the Titanic.
Maybe Biden can propose a new railroad to the sunken Titanic.

Mike Davis describes Hunter Biden’s deal to be a “Sweetheart” one. The felony gun charge will not remain on his record. And, there’s a possibility this will even get Hunter off the hook for any further prosecution regarding his corrupt Burisma dealings. Furthermore, a recent Rasmussen poll asking democrats if Biden is better than past presidents, 60% responded “yes.” IOW, a greater number see Biden as more successful than even Obama. I didn’t think democrats were that blinded by their upside down ideology.

So the apparent rescue vehicles can only go as deep as a few thousand feet, but lost submersible is likely on the bottom at 12,500 feet. The headlines are “Rescuers race against time” but if they had all the time in the world, and can only get within 10,000 feet of the lost sub, its pretty hopeless.
As far as I can tell the only option by which the sub and its passengers are saved is if the malfunction made it so the climb back to the surface was reduced to an agonizingly slow rate, but they will make it before the oxygen runs out. No surface ship is going to save them. A freighter could start fishing around with a hook hoping to snag them, but that would be like someone dropping a fishing line out of an airplane at 10,000 feet hoping to grab a nice trout. It ain’t happening.

Besides Hunter skating from any corruption/money laundering accountability there are so many thorny issues facing this country – China’s troubling involvement with Cuba; an Ukrainian $100 billion dollar bill to be debated (and probably passed); a coalition of countries trying to weaken our reserve currency: SOS Blinken’s humiliating visit to China demonstrating more and more that we are a declining power, in the midst of China being a rising one; and of course our own border being overrun with colonies of illegals settling in TX. We have no leadership in this country having our backs.

Seems like a slap on the wrist. The evidence is overwhelming Hunter Biden was receiving millions from foreign sources. There is also evidence that other members of the Biden family (including Joe) were on the receiving end of Hunter Biden’s influence pedalling earnings. Bitter, the thing I don’t get is why anyone would risk their life on this particular adventure. Its not like they can get to the bottom of the sea, 12,500 feet down, and then get out and walk around on the deck of the Titanic, and maybe go exploring down inside the ship. The passengers can still only see the wreck through a thick window. So that glass might as well be a screen safely aboard the surface vessel while an unmanned machine is down at the bottom with the video camera.
I get that some things are worth the risk. The Grand Canyon cannot be adequately appreciated from photographs or a video feed. Anyone who has seen it in person can attest to that. So if the only way to get there was through some danger that poses a minimal threat to one’s life, I could see how many would go and take on the risk.
But to see the Titanic through a window, when you can get much better images through unmanned vessels? It seems like a no-brainer.
But I guess if nothing else this sad situation has forever ended the Titanic tourism.

If I had $250k to blow this would not be on my bucket list. I just saw a fabulous documentary “Drain the oceans” on the Titanic and you see much more than you would inside a submersible.
However, I am not against Titanic tourism. The first thing that should be required is a spare vehicle on the mother ship that could be launched for rescue. The second is some kind of tether, not necessarily to pull it up but that could be used to track it if necessary. It could be flimsy enough that it couldn’t snare the submersible or have a release mechanism if it was entangled. Finally it should require a week of oxygen instead of 96 hours.
Of course, none of these precautions would help if the submersible imploded. Because it was 2/3rds down and it was only about 90 minutes when they lost communications I doubt it is entangled in the wreck, it didn’t have enough time to reach it.
If it just completely lost power and sank to the bottom, a hook can be attached to it by an ROV and it can be winched to the surface. That is the best case scenario for the problem and for the rescue.

Further reading on this missing submersible, sounds like the CEO (who is also on the missing craft) ignored the pleas of others in the submersible community over the safety of the vessel that is now missing. The CEO pushed back saying that getting his sub certified would take too long and the delays would “stifle innovation.” In other words, the guy had a barely working sub and was eager to start cashing the checks for $250,000 per rider. That’s making money the hard way, now that he is very likely dead at the bottom of the ocean.

Newsom failed miserably in dealing with California’s homeless crisis. But he wasted billions of dollars — which makes him eminately qualified to be the Democrats’ candidate for president in 2024:
“California spent a whopping $10 billion on the homeless during the 2019-2021 timeframe while providing assistance to 510,000 individuals. Despite this huge expenditure of money, no appreciative progress has been made in the state’s homeless situation.”
* * *
“Two days after the council vote, the County of San Diego announced it had received a $17 million state grant to coordinate a joint county-city partnership to address the homeless population living along the San Diego riverbed. $17 million may seem like a suitable antidote to reducing the riverbed homeless population; after all, the latest estimates claim there are only 300 homeless individuals residing in the riverbed. Surely, $17 million can take care of a mere 300 people at $56,666 for each.
And yet, I am sure many San Diegans, upon learning of this $17 million grant, likely shrugged their shoulders and said something like, “Don’t hold your breath. See me in a year or two and explain whatever became of that money. And let me know if any fewer homeless people live in the riverbed.” Homelessness fatigue has programmed us to feel that way”

More from Jonathan Tobin in Newsweek:
“As Right on Crime’s Brett Tolman pointed out, 94.2 percent of federal firearm convictions in 2022 involved at least some prison time with the median sentence being 39 months.
That the federal prosecutor in Delaware was appointed by a Republican doesn’t make it smell any sweeter, and not just because a president’s son ought to be treated the same way most violators are handled, not given a slap on the wrist. The real problem is that Hunter Biden is the focus of a disturbing trail of evidence about corruption that is, even in the most generous reading, highly suspicious. The President’s son received millions of dollars in payments from foreign entities during the time his father was vice president.
Hunter got busy doing deals with entities connected to the Chinese Communist Party and placed the money in a suspiciously large number of limited liability companies with multiple family members outside of the president among the beneficiaries. Hunter’s appointment to the board of the Ukrainian energy company Burisima, despite his lack of any expertise on the topic, was an obvious effort to influence his father, whom President Barack Obama had made his administration’s point man on Ukraine.
The Burisma connection has always seemed fishy due to President Biden’s boasts about threatening to withhold U.S. aid to Ukraine if a prosecutor investigating that company wasn’t fired. Even if that was innocent, the head of Burisma is now linked to allegations of an attempt to bribe the Biden family, evidence for which is allegedly to be found on tapes of conversations with them.
Hunter’s business dealings might be technically legal, but he was peddling influence, something that is clearly corrupt.
The worst part of all of this is the way the DOJ is protecting the President. If such allegations were leveled against anyone else involved in the kind of criminality Hunter was routinely engaged in, the Department of Justice would be using them as leverage to get to the bottom of his family’s questionable activities. Anyone else would be squeezed to reveal all about his shady dealings. Yet Hunter was simply… let off.”

Last year 42 billionaire donors were cited as supporting DeSantis, among them Citedel’s CEO, Ken Griffin, who is all in on dealing with China. I doubt Griffin or any other globalist billionaire would be happy if their guy mounts any resistance to China’s policies diverting jobs and trade away from the U.S. These are aspects to weigh when looking at a presidential candidate, other than if they have a picture-perfect family, are young, and carry around little baggage.

Not so sure. This submersible has made many trips successfully. The release form everyone signed clearly states the risks. This is an expedition to a wreck 13,000 feet in a small submersible with very little self propulsion, no emergency rescue vehicle, no teher. It is obviously fraught with risk. Risk does not mean reckless. Accidents happen with much more sophisticated vehicles. We lost two space shuttles.

But nobody talks about ending the practice. The risks are well known.
This submersible had reasonable safeguards, it has 7 different emergency systems to return to the surface, even one where it would automatically do so if the crew is incapacitated.
The most logical explanation of why it hasn’t surfaced is that it imploded, but the structural integrity was actually the most technological advanced feature, developed by Boeing and NASA. However you would think if it imploded you would have some debris on the surface.

I won’t vote for a candidate who opposes military aid to the Ukraine.
Two of the two most active Senators in opposing NATO expansion in the past were Rand Paul and Senator Mike Lee from Utah. Both were often the only members of the Senate who voted against admitting new members to NATO.
Yet when Senator Lee found himself in a tough re-election fight in Utah in 2022, Lee suddenly changed his tune and announced on Twitter and in his campaign literature that he was voting for Sweden and Finland to join NATO.
Senator Lee managed to get reelected with 53% of the vote in 2022. Normally, Republican Senate candidates in Utah receive about 67% of the vote.

The biggest threat to the U.S. economy, freedoms and our overall well being is China. They are the ones stealing our technology, establishing military bases around the world (including S. America & now Cuba), are feverishly adding to their naval strength, meddling in our elections, are vying for world dominance, and actively enabling Russia by buying their oil and aligning themselves with a coalition of countries trying to upend our reserve currency status. Ukraine has become a divisive distraction, one that’s usurping ammunition, arms, money from this country and others, killing Ukrainian civilians in abysmal numbers, and becoming a fuse for igniting a nuclear incident from a country having the greatest nuclear arms in the world.
If Russia is crushed will that make our national security less in jeopardy? Actually, IMO, it will only make our real nemesis stronger, more likely to take over Taiwan, becoming the world power to fear and heel to the most. Basically, the implications of putting all our chips on Ukraine, and taking eyes off a much larger threat, is beyond terrifying.

Russia does not have to be “crushed”. Russia has to be stopped from implementing their vision of a new USSR or Greater Russia, which Is a gigantic threat to the stability of Europe and hence of great national importance to the US.
Allowing Russia to implement its expansionist ambitions is a grave security threat to the US.
This is true whatever threat China poses, the two threats are independent of each other and one does not void the other. The US has a huge interest in preserving the stability of Europe as well as Japan, South Korea and Korea.

What would be “terrifying” would be to allow the continued genocide and human catastrophe caused by the Russians.
The fact Jan calls the displacement of 10 million people, the bombing and shelling of countless cities and residential areas, the killing, rape, torture and forced deportations of tens or hundreds of thousands of people, the destruction of Ukraine’s infrastructure and economy a “distraction” really exemplifies the length the Putin lapdogs will go to justify his war crimes.

Reading more on this missing submersible, and am convinced the CEO and pilot of the craft has been extraordinarily careless with his life and the lives of his passengers. Prior passengers speak of wiring issues that had to be fixed (with zip ties) just before launching–one passenger called it a suicide mission. And in previous dives, the pilot got way too close the Titanic wreckage, even in one instance setting the sub down on Titanic’s deck! That is incredibly foolish, as the sub could easily get entangled in the wreckage, or the rotting deck could give way plunging them into the Titanic’s hull.
Reading all the different perspectives and first hand accounts, my opinion is that the sub’s hull did not implode, as that was probably the most reliable part of the design. Probably something broke like a thruster or wiring to the thruster that has rendered the sub inoperable and they are down there waiting to run out of air. Horrible.
Its incredible to me that the design of this vessel didn’t include even the most basic of safety features like an external beacon that would send out a pulse nonstop throughout the dive, so that in the case of an emergency, rescuers could easily locate the sub from the pulse.

I agree with Jason. Additionally, if we were to give Russia a “pass” in their invasion of Ukraine, that would make a Taiwan invasion so much MORE likely. If we allowed Russia to succeed in taking a chunk of land, China would consider that it could do the same in Taiwan. Right now, they know that it would be a long and devastating war if they invaded.

Jason exploits the prioritization of putting the greater harms China presents to the U.S., over the tragedy of Ukraine, as being expressed by a Putin lapdog. Somehow the lack of accountability over the monetary, armaments asked for and received by Zelensky, is never an issue, even when a 6 billion accounting error has recently popped up. I guess that’s just chump change, even when the US is 32 trillion in debt, and millions are hurting financially in this country. Furthermore the loss of life and suffering in Ukraine is secondary for those involved in this war, as according to a recent comment by a Blackrock recruiter, “War is good for business.” I guess ending a war is not!

How many people do you think regret getting the vaccine that he rushed the FDA to push out?
How many people regret not being able to say goodbye to their loved ones?
How many parents wish they could undo the psychological damage that lockdowns and masking caused their children?
How many small business owners wish they could get their businesses back?
Millions, but he has zero regrets.
This is a million times worse than anything DeSantis, Massie, or RFK have ever said, signed, or voted for.
Truly disgraceful. We will all regret putting him back into office, because he has proved once again, that he will do the same thing again if given the chance.

Monday morning quarter-backing is a nifty way to show off knowledge that the day before was not available.
Trump initially addressed the spread of the virus by banning Chinese travel, which was condemned. He optimistically called for a short shut-down to lower the curve, but was criticized for not taking the virus seriously. He discussed the possibility of alternative therapies like hydroxychloroquine. In fact Peter Navarro ordered massive doses of it, but such a remedy was mocked and then eventually made unavailable by the medical establishment (even though there were doctors who had amazing results using this inexpensive, repurposed, FDA-approved drug.) He early on shunned wearing a mask 24/7, and never supported mandates.
However, Trump has always been pro-active combining the wheel houses of the private/public sectors to problem solve. So, that’s what he did with the pharmaceutical companies to expedite a vaccine that everyone was clamoring for. He did the same to provide additional ventilators, creating more bed space, ordering medical ships on each coast. When he got COVID he took the vaccine himself to demonstrate his trust and approval of it. Basically, Trump engaged in appropriate moves, that in hindsight proved to be wrong.
Sure, it would be a solid gesture to say now he wished different approaches had been used if the unknown had been known. However, people should have a better memory in remembering the fear-induced environment surrounding COVID, to understand Trump did the best he could, given how blind sighted people were about the etiology, scope, and transmission rate of a new virus, as well as the uncooperative push back exercised by the Dems and media. Putting the failure of small businesses, the isolation and death of patients, the loss of education on Trump is displacing the blame, when it rightly belongs to the CDC, FDA, various state governors, the AMA and the Teacher Unions.
BTW, my brother-in-law died in a hospital of brain cancer, but was isolated and alone because of a COVID diagnosis slapped on him after he was hospitalized. My husband and I refused to take the vaccine, and were also isolated because of the divisive way being vaccinated vs not being vaccinated divided people.

For being an incumbent Trumps over all numbers aren’t that great. The reaction to the seriousness of Trumps indictments are beginning to show in that poll too. It’s just a matter of time and Trumps numbers will begin to dwindle. His support is soft. The race will tighten by the fall.
The campaign really begins in August when the debates begin. Something seemed off with Trump in the long Fox interview. DeSantis and Christie will handle Trump well… if he shows. Both of them have strong ego strength. They remain themselves under pressure and know how to punch back effectively. Pence being a talk radio host and in GOP leadership for years is very quick on his feet as well and will surprise. Haley and Vivek will be kissing Trumps butt.
If Trump remains in the race there needs to be a effort to give him the Bernie Sanders treatment. I still believe 35-40% is his ceiling on a good day.

Ukraine is maintaining “operational silence” regarding it’s offensive. At this point it appears to be a probing operation, with bulk of its forces holding back in reserve, waiting for the opportunity for a breakthrough.
Meanwhile, Yevgeny Prigozhin, the head of the Russian Wagner mercenary group is alarmed, and has accused the Russian Defense of not telling the truth about the territory Russia is losing.
“The chief of mercenary group Wagner on Wednesday accused Moscow’s top brass of deceiving Russians about the course of Ukraine’s offensive and pointed to Kyiv’s progress on the battlefield.
Early this month Kyiv’s military launched its counteroffensive in the east and south of the Western-backed country in an effort to claw back territory lost since last year.
Russian President Vladimir Putin has repeatedly said that Ukraine’s offensive is failing.
But Wagner chief Yevgeny Prigozhin, whose forces had for months led an assault for towns in eastern Ukraine including Bakhmut, accused the defense ministry of not telling the truth and losing territory to Ukrainian troops.
“They are misleading the Russian people,” he said in an audio message released by his spokespeople.
A number of villages including Pyatykhatky has been lost, Prigozhin said, pointing to a lack of arms and ammunition.
“Huge chunks have been handed over to the enemy,” he said, adding that Ukrainian troops have already sought to cross the Dnipro River, a natural border on the frontline.
“All of this is being totally hidden from everyone,” the 62-year-old said.
“One day Russia will wake up to discover that Crimea too has been handed over to Ukraine,” he said.”

Most of the Titanic’s deck is steel, that is why it is still there. The steel was sheathed in wood. Very unlikely it would cave in. The steel is rusting but the thick deck steel will be around for a long time. Most of the wood on the Titanic is already gone, some teak remains.
Besides, the contact with the submersible ended before they reached the Titanic, only about an hour and a half after they had departed. Finally, had the problem been that the submersible was entangled in wreckage, it would still be able to communicate.
Most likely either two things happened. A complete power loss caused by short circuit or other reason or a catastrophic implosion due to a breach. The submersible had an emergency system that would make it surface even if the crew was incapacitated, but I don’t know if it required power to activate or whether it had an independent trigger system.
if it was a breach it is pretty much a failure of the most technologically advanced feature of the submersible. Evidently this was Boeing and NASA technology and the CEO considered it the “safest” aspect. As he put it, everything else can fail, but not the structural integrity.
As Bitter put it, it was safe until it wasn’t. Same as the space shuttle.
I see social media posts saying the CEO deserved to die because he is a Republican. That the billionaire aboard deserves to die because he is a billionaire.
This was an experimental vehicle people embarked on at their own risk after signing a waiver stating they were aware this craft was not certified by any agency and there were significant risks involved. There were no safety guarantees. The CEO felt safe enough to be on it himself, so he was not exempting himself from any risks.
There are a lot of people saying stupid things attacking this guy and his vehicle. Everyone has their own risk tolerance. I would not go on this adventure if I had the money because I don’t like being cooped up with 4 other guys in something the size of an SUV 13,000 ft underwater. But I have jumped out of planes, explored caves with very iffy safeguards, survived some challenging wilderness adventures and traveled through very dangerous parts of the world, all where I took what I considered acceptable risks.
My only safety issue is that there should have been a rescue vehicle of the same type on the mothership and an independently powered locator system that could be remotely activated even in the event of an implosion.

A 2021 press release celebrating the Titan’s first successful 12,500-foot dive to the Titanic wreckage thanked Boeing as an “industry partner” giving “design and engineering support.”
However, Boeing told The Post early Thursday: “Boeing was not a partner on the Titan and did not design or build it.”

‘A debris field was discovered within the search area by an ROV near the Titanic,’ officials said.
Coast Guard officials were expected to discuss the findings during a news conference Thursday afternoon.”
–For the sake of the families of the victims, I hope they can confirm the debris was the imploded hull of the missing submersible. Much better to know that their loved ones died in an instant that from four days of horror, then suffocation.
The imploded hull theory seemed less likely given the simplicity of that part of the design. But if there was somehow a catastrophic hull failure, the victims would have died from blunt force trauma before the incoming water ever touched them.

Yep, the implosion was not likely given that was the part of the design with best technology and least prone to fail. But I have viewed it as probably what happened because the other options would have allowed for either the emergency surfacing of the vessel or continued “pings” from it.

Maybe, although these specifically stated the vehicle was not regulated by any agency, which is usually not the case. Judges often toss waivers because it is easy to say some regulation was violated, voiding the waiver. So Disney might have you sign a waiver to go on a ride, but then a judge can determine some violation of a highly regulated industry and void it. Anyway, my comment was not so much about how valid the release is in court, but that the signers had a very clear understanding of the risks.

“At least 46 people successfully traveled on OceanGate’s submersible to the Titanic wreck site in 2021 and 2022, according to letters the company filed with a U.S. District Court in Norfolk, Virginia, that oversees matters involving the Titanic shipwreck.
One of the company’s first customers characterized a dive he made to the site two years ago as a “kamikaze operation.”
“Imagine a metal tube a few meters long with a sheet of metal for a floor. You can’t stand. You can’t kneel. Everyone is sitting close to or on top of each other,” said Arthur Loibl, a retired businessman and adventurer from Germany. “You can’t be claustrophobic.”
During the 2.5-hour descent and ascent, the lights were turned off to conserve energy, he said, with the only illumination coming from a fluorescent glow stick.
The dive was repeatedly delayed to fix a problem with the battery and the balancing weights. In total, the voyage took 10.5 hours.

jason, from what I read, yes, the communication to the missing submersible was lost before they could have reached the Titanic, but its also true that they had lost communication in prior trips, so that may have had nothing to do with the disaster. They are saying that this debris field they found is near the Titanic.
Maybe after losing communication, instead of returning to the surface and aborting the mission, they decided to press on, go to the Titanic, then the pilot did what they did before, get right up close, but then got too close and bumped into it, and with the extra force added to the sub’s hull from the strike, it could have been enough along with the load already pushing on the hull to trigger a catastrophic implosion.

Rick Scott isn’t potentially running for president because he thinks he can win. He knows he can’t because no one likes him. When it comes to any machine, manned or unmanned that works at that level of the deep ocean, there are no such things as ‘permanent’ parts. The sea takes its toll on the vessel with every dive. The hull, though seemingly the safest part of the craft is not immune to the ravages of taking on that incredible amount of pressure per square inch, over and over, and eventually, if it is not retired, it will give way.

Repeated pressurization and depressurization of aircraft causes metal fatigue. In the famous crash of the British Comet passenger jet, that’s what was found to have caused the crash.
Almost certainly, the repeated trips to such a depth caused fatigue in the sub and a minute crack or weakness formed and eventually lead to the breakup.

No. They needed communication to proceed. There is no GPS underwater. They navigated via text messages. If they lost communication 1 hr 45 minutes into the dive, they would have had to return, no way of going forward.
Plus the submersible emits pings every 15 minutes in any case. The fact the pings stopped at the same time communication was lost was the main reason I thought an implosion was the most likely explanation.
Also if there was an implosion, why no debris on the surface? Because it was so deep, they were probably at least 2 miles underwater, the currents would take any floating debris far from the site, maybe tens or hundreds of miles before they surfaced.

LOL
So YOUR logic is that Rick Scott is running for President because that MIGHT get him a cabinet position from a rival candidate he probably knows cannot win a GE?
Damm, I think I will stick with my logic.
NONE of these candidates is running for VP or cabinet position in Trump’s administration. NONE.
In the first place, I doubt any of them thinks he can win the GE. Second, running for President is a lot of work and expensive.
Scott and Scott are sitting senators. Pence was VP. Haley was Governor and UN Ambassador. They aren’t running for President for a potential cabinet position for a candidate who might not win the nomination or the Presidency.
They are running because they saw a guy ride down an escalator with less chance than they have become President.

Rick Scott is a Trump ally through and through. He challenged McConnell for leader last November at the behest of Trump. He endorsed and defended all of Trump’s awful Senate endorsements in 2022 (Walker, Mastriano, Masters) and, most importantly, Scott hates DeSantis. He knows his candidacy would make it easier for Trump to win with just 35% to 40%.
I’m quite certain Trump has suggested to Scott that he will be rewarded in a future Trump presidency (a fantasy that won’t happen). And the reason I know Trump is the source for Scott’s plans was Maggie Haberman reported it. You can bet your bottom dollar Trump called Haberman and told her what Scoot was going to do.
As for Nikki Haley, she’s 100% running for VP. Her candidacy has gone nowhere and she’s decided the best way to get a leg up on 2028 is to be conman Donnie’s VP. The same goes for that smarmy turd Vivek Ramaswamy. I think Tim Scott is eyeing VP as well, but we’ll see. If he’s still polling in the low single digits in early January and stays in the race, we’ll know he’s playing to be Donnie’s VP.
LikeLike
Jason fraud is correct none of Trump’s primary opponents believe he can win a general election, but they all believe being his VP would give them a leg up on the 2028 race and the pole position to inherit conman Donnie’s voters. I think it’s a laughable strategy since Donnie’s voters aren’t transferrable, but that’s what they’re calculating. Haley and Tim Scott know they aren’t going to be the nominee. Heck, I suspect Desantis has already had thoughts about making sure his 2024 candidacy doesn’t irrevocably hurt him with Trump voters in 2028. they’re all, at least in their own minds, playing the long game.
In the end, none of this will matter, though. Trump will run again in 2028 so all of this “strategery” by Haley, Tim Scott, Rick Scott, and the others is a waste of time.

Some of my major issues in the ‘24 election are China’s expansion, uncontrolled border, needed reform in the DOJ and intelligent departments. Christie certainly doesn’t meet any of my criteria, especially as he is giving Wray a pass, is doubling down on bashing Trump and is all in for unrestrained Ukraine spending. Most of the other candidates seem light weight and kind of milquetoast in their campaigns so far. I also remain unconvinced about DeSantis’s ability to separate himself from meeting the demands of his many corporate, well-heeled donors vs the needs of the people.
Candidates who have caught my favorable attention are Francis Suarez (Miami mayor), Vivek, and RFK. The latter one, even though he is a dem, has a lot of depth and knowledge about pharmaceutical companies, the corruption in the CIA/FBI, and wants to close the border – all topics which mirror my own concerns. Furthermore, RFK’s stance regarding the side effects of the vaccines, and his research into the falsehoods of Fauci dealing with both AIDS and the recent COVID pandemic made him a standout, IMO.

Fauci and Birx were both brought on board to the COVID task force by Trump/Pence. Fauci was a renowned immunologist and director of the NIH, the guy who determined where all grant funding was distributed. The establishment viewed him as a medical God, who in reality was a ruthless, greedy fraud. Later Trump backed Scott Atlas to join the task force, a much better choice who was squeezed out by a Fauci/Birx because he didn’t agree with their guidance.
I believe it was your guy Christie who recommended Trump appoint Wray.
Trump believes in tariffs for those who apply high taxes for goods exported to them by U.S. I guess you want to call that protectionist, anti free trade that help corporations. However, Trump viewed his policies as helping the worker. He also worked against off-shoring jobs abroad which did not work in multinational corporations favor.

People hated Trump when he ran for president in 2016, belittling his chances of winning. From the get-go once he won there were members in both parties who were planning his political demise. I don’t remember a smooth period of time during his entire presidency where the knives weren’t out for him to fail, from the opposition party, a compromised staff around him, and establishment republicans. Despite all the resistance, obstacles and deception the country did pretty well under his leadership – he passed a lot of good policies, new trade deals, revived healthcare under the VA, killed bomb makers and terrorist leaders abroad., started no new wars, and at the end of his term the economy, following COVID lockdowns, was coming back with inflation below 2%, energy independence yielding lower gas prices.
I’ve given Trump credit where credit is due.

In testimony made public on Thursday, Gary Shapley, an I.R.S. agent since 2009 who supervised the tax agency’s investigation into Hunter Biden, said his team used a search warrant to obtain a July 30, 2017, WhatsApp message from Mr. Biden to Henry Zhao, a Chinese businessman.
In a summary of the message, provided to the House Ways and Means Committee by Mr. Shapley, Mr. Biden told Mr. Zhao that he was sitting with his father and that “we would like to understand why the commitment made has not been fulfilled.””

The White House did not respond to a request for comment.
Hunter wrote Zhao a few days later on Aug. 2, 2017, “[m]y family sends their best wishes and looks forward to playing some golf when the director has time.”

The orders were coming from the Head of General Staff to destroy PMC Wagner. After a meeting with the Minister of Defence Shoygu where they made this decision – to destroy the rebellious units, who are ready to defend the motherland, but not their asses.
As of now, we’ve crossed the state borders in all areas. Border guards came towards us and hugged our fighters.
Now, we’re entering Rostov. Units of the Ministry of Defence, in fact, the conscripts who were thrown to block our path, moved away.
We do not fight with children. We do not kill children. Shoygu is killing children by throwing untrained soldiers, conscripts included, into the war.
He set up 18-year-old lads against us. They’re like children and grandchildren to us. Therefore, these lads will live and return to their mothers.
We only fight with professionals. But if someone stands in our path, we will destroy EVERYTHING in our way.
We lend a hand to anyone. No need to spit in this hand. We are moving forward, going to the end.

Somebody should have warned Putin that when you give weapons and power to a separate army of convict mercenaries there might be a downside.

I am sorry this has happened to our legion of HHR Putin Lapdogs and Stooges. But there is also hope Putin can right the ship and start killing Ukrainians again, so don’t despair.

I’m beginning to think that giving a psychopath his own private army of criminals was not a good idea.

I’m not worried about this coup. Given how long it took Wagner to get Bakhmut they’ll not get to Moscow before 2049.

DOJ asks Judge to move Trump trial date to December 11th. Right before IOWA and NH.
Also Trumps alleged bag man Nauta wasn’t arraigned yet so he DID NOT give a plea yet. (June 13th The same day, defendant Nauta made his initial appearance before Judge Goodman, but has not yet been arraigned or entered a plea. Nauta’s arraignment is scheduled for June 27, 2023.) Is he entering into a plea agreement? That would spell doom for Trump.

Speaking of Putin, where is he? This crisis may give his generals the excuse to topple him. They reputably loath him.

Please remember that the goal of the special military operation was always regime change so “technically” things are going according to plan?

How’s the Russian-Ukrainian war going? Well, Wagner might finally take the capital… but there’s nuance…

Doesn’t appear so now. In the very unlikely chance he wins, believe he might move to end the conflict.
However, feel it’s far more likely the Russian generals remove Putin, and then move to end the war. Hopefully Putin is shipped to the Hague and charged with war crimes.

An interesting new video from Prigozhin
“Ukraine did not bomb the Donbass for 8 years, but only exchanged blows with the Russian army, the Armed Forces of Ukraine were not going to attack the Russian Federation, the Ministry of Defense is deceiving the public and the president, – Prigozhin.”

In essence, he indirectly called Prigozhin a traitor and compared it to 1917!

Been in the blog sphere and Ukraine Twitter space for several hours. Below is the best summary of what appears to be likely happening in Russia now:
1/ Russia’s security forces are reported to be in disarray following the attempted mutiny by the Wagner Group. It seems to have been perfectly timed for a moment – Friday night – when many personnel were too drunk to respond quickly, while others are refusing to fight Wagner.
5/ Unwillingness to fight Wagner appears to be a common theme. “There is real panic in Rostov, especially among the police. There is more than a 40 percent shortfall in personnel among those called up in connection with Operation Fortress” (to defend security installations)
6/ Wagner forces were able to cross the border from Ukraine without opposition, despite orders not to let them through. “Both the border service of the FSB and the Interior Ministry received instructions to stop the Wagner PMC. No one is complying, as it is not realistic.
7/ Most ominously for the Kremlin, elements of the security forces appear to be actively siding with Wagner or refusing to act against it.
8/ “The defence ministry has lost control over a number of units and formations of the South Eastern Military District, it will not be possible to organise defence by the Rosgvardia [Russian National Guard] and the FSB. Local leaders are extremely careful in their statements”.
9/ “Attempts to counter Prigozhin are only going through the FSB and the National Guard. The Ministry of Defence has simply withdrawn, junior officers either refuse to follow orders or directly support Wagner.”
10/ And Shoigu and the [MOD leadership] team just hid and completely lost touch with reality. The fear is obviously serious.” Wagner is reported to be directly taking control of some South Eastern Military District units.
11/ “A number of units of the Ministry of Defence that participated in the war are beginning to come under the command of Wagner. Entire corps. Shoigu and Gerasimov’s people are being removed.
12/ General Gerasimov himself has not been seen in public since the mutiny began. According to Wagner channels, he was in Rostov when it fell to Wagner forces.
13/ He is said to have “escaped from the Rostov [military] headquarters along with people loyal to him” and “is holed up in a civilian apartment with his friends in Rostov.” /end

I think this goes without saying but Wagner is not your ally even if they want to topple Putin/MoD. The best case scenario is they start killing each other, it goes completely out of hand and Ukrainians take back what’s theirs as quickly as possible.

It may put Putin in a position where he is willing to accept an olive branch from the US where he withdraws mostly, keeps Crimea, gets immediate relief from embargoes and western support. Maybe Putin can join NATO so that we can help him defeat the Wagners.

Wagners are turning around because some deal was brokered. Not sure how they smooth over a major attempted coup and go back to normal. So, who knows what is next.

This should be the end of the Golden Calf. In a hit piece “DeSantis Baseball Career at Yale gets New Scrutiny” the article claims his excellent individual performance did not always result in team wins.
Devastating.
“The Daily Pennsylvanian notes that the Governor was by all accounts a good captain, but the Bulldogs struggled during his time on the team.
“DeSantis collected 77 hits during years two and three with the Bulldogs, and notched an impressive on-base percentage of .380. Arguably his best college season came during his junior year, when he set career highs in hits with 44, home runs at five, and with 28 RBIs. However, the Bulldogs became cellar dwellers of the Ivy League, bottoming out with a 3-17 conference record in 2000,” notes reporter Walker Carnahan.
His senior year’s captaincy didn’t lead to on field wins.”
