Cory Booker calls El-Sayed a “fringe person”

BREAKING: Democrat Sen. Cory Booker just called Abdul El-Sayed a “fringe” person. Kristen Welker: “In our polls, socialism is viewed even more negatively than the MAGA movement. … And we’re seeing one of the big battles play out for progressivism in Michigan right now with Abdul El-Sayed, the candidate there… Do you think Democrats are drawing a firm enough line between themselves and socialism?”

Cory Booker: “This is really what the Republicans want to do, focus on a few fringe people…”

If El-Sayed was running up the score in Michigan internal polling and not hurting the national dem ticket, then Booker NEVER would have said this. Like I often say, watch the behavior as much as the polls.

Ed Case in Illinois said the Dems need to embrace the DSA or become a fringe minority.

Walter Moorhead, 74, faces multiple charges, including manslaughter and reckless endangerment, for fatally shooting Santos Maria Chilel Soto, 39, Friday evening in the town of Ellendale, according to Delaware State Police.

Moorhead, of Salisbury, Maryland, was arrested at the scene of the shooting and later released on a $43,000 bond. State police said the preliminary investigation by its homicide unit indicated that Moorhead had been crouched close to the ground in an open field, hunting, when Soto passed by with a man and two children. Believing he had seen a deer, the hunter then fired his rifle in their direction, striking Soto”

The incident comes about a year after a teenager died in rural Iowa, after he was shot by a fellow hunter who apparently mistook him for a squirrel.”

The irony here is their eyesights were horrible in mistaking people for game but good enough to shoot them in the head.

  21. Before Janzam shows up to whine about Zelensky (elected by a huge majority in free and fair elections) still being President (while Putin has been a dictator for 27 years) let’s remind her of the Ukrainian Constitution.

Ukraine’s laws and the Constitution of Ukraine prohibit holding national elections while martial law is in effect.

    Constitutional and Legal Rules

    • Parliamentary Terms: Article 83 of the Ukrainian Constitution explicitly extends the authority of the parliament (the Verkhovna Rada) during martial law until a new parliament is elected after martial law ends.
    • Electoral Code: The Electoral Code of Ukraine and the law on martial law ban holding any presidential, parliamentary, or local elections during a state of martial law.
    • Constitutional Amendments: The constitution cannot be changed or amended while martial law is active.
    • Continuity of Power: Under Ukrainian legal order, incumbent authorities—including the president—remain fully legitimate and legally mandated to perform their duties until a post-war election takes place.”

So there cannot be elections in Ukraine while under martial law and 25% of the country under foreign occupation.

Of course, if Putin gets the f–k out of Ukraine, elections could be held soon after.

Yesterday, after Kol Nidre at my synagogue, I spoke with a wonderful person who wanted to know more about what is actually happening in Ukraine.

And once again—for perhaps the tenth time in the past six months—the moment I mentioned Ukrainian men being forcibly mobilized and sent to the front, I heard the same bewildered question:

    “You mean in Russia?”

    No, friends.

    I mean Ukraine.

    U-k-r-a-i-n-e.

That “beacon of freedom and democracy” you hear about on CNN every day. The country where, according to the story relentlessly sold to Western audiences, ordinary people are supposedly united in their determination to keep fighting, ready to “die rather than stop resisting”.

And every single time, I watch the same transformation on people’s faces: wide eyes, disbelief, confusion, a thousand questions suddenly appearing at once.

Then I find myself explaining what Ukrainians call busification—men being stopped or seized in public and taken away in vehicles in the course of mobilization. I explain what people mean by the term, how such encounters are reported to happen, and I show them videos circulating from Ukraine.

And please understand who these conversations are with. These are not people who never read the news. They are American university professors, educators, writers, professionals—educated, engaged people who genuinely believe they know what is happening in Ukraine.

And yet, again and again, they have never heard about this.

That is the part that breaks me.

I cannot quite comprehend how something so many people in my country experience as a profound tragedy can remain almost invisible to millions abroad. How can a war be covered so relentlessly and yet some of its ugliest realities can remain so unfamiliar to the very audience consuming that coverage every day?

Western politicians and legacy media have helped construct a version of Ukraine that is cleaner, simpler, and infinitely more romantic than the country Ukrainians actually have to live in.

It is a story with heroes and villains, courage and sacrifice, stirring speeches and flags—but far less room for exhaustion, fear, coercion, grief, resentment, or the human beings who no longer want to be sacrificed to somebody else’s narrative.

And that romanticized image has consequences.

Because when an entire country is reduced to an inspirational story of heroic resistance, the suffering required to sustain that story becomes remarkably easy to ignore.

The Western audience applauds the courage. Western governments send the money. The war continues.

And somewhere far away from the television studios, ordinary Ukrainians live with the consequences.

The most disturbing part is that many of the people applauding have no idea what they are applauding. And sponsoring.

Whether you’re reading the Iron Broom, or stories about the Holocaust it all entails “man’s inhumanity to man.” This Russian/Ukraine war is no different in that both the Russians and Ukrainians (especially those in the Nazi military units) are known for their brutality.
