This last poll of OH-01 is interesting. The forecasters all have lean or likely D. The Dem is the incumbent. Nobody really expects it to flip. And yet the numbers found by Quantus suggest a par election. About the same results as two years ago.

    The Panama Canal treaty was signed by the President and ratified by the Senate.

    On December 31, 1999 full ownership and control went to Panama.

    There is no “our canal”.

    However, the treaty does allow for the US to protect its security.

    CNN says Trump is 3 x more admired by Rs than Reagan.

    Considering Trump is not really a R and certainly not a conservative it shows what a change has occurred among Rs, from a party based on conservative principles to a party based on populism and cultism.

    Again, I think Trump is only a symptom of this, not the cause, the R party on the path to populism before Trump took advantage of the sentiment.

    That is why I think the populist bent of the party will not end when Trump leaves office, that train left the station long ago.

    I don’t see any influential R that actually cares about conservatism as a principle. I can’t think of one doctrinaire conservative in Trump’s administration outside of maybe Rubio.

    They are willing to share the original 13 colonies 50/50 as special consideration. Pennsylvania will have to be renamed Susquehanna and New York will be called Haudenosaunee.     I think he should get a free pass.

    Evidently his roommate thought the dog should be allowed to stay in the house, so it would make sense the killer would have a “temporary” psychotic breakdown about it.

    There were early warning signs that were ignored. A few weeks ago, neighbors heard the man complaining about the dog in the house.

    Nobody did anything. Not the ASPCA, not the county dog catcher, not the state mental health dept, not even Trump.

    The shooter is not at fault when society breaks down like this.

    Already saw one news report blaming climate change…they really don’t waste any disaster. This despite the probability that an earthquake in the region caused the half-mile long glacier to be unstable and then break loose.

    And of course a glacier is ice, which formed due to cold conditions. So they have to say climate change, not global warming.

    So here is the narrative:

    The flood killed thousands.

    The flood of ice, water, and mud was caused by the breakaway glacier.

    The breakaway glacier was caused by climate change, either too much cold weather allowing the glacier to get too big, or too much cold followed by too much warmth which caused it to break off…either way, doesn’t matter because…

    The climate change was caused by Trump failing to listen to Al Gore’s warnings.

    Trump killed the thousands of people.

    I don’t believe in sending 16 year olds to prison for life for a DUI that kills someone, especially for a first offense.

    But I would certainly support a stiff jail sentence to a mother who killed her children by drunk driving, say 20 years. And if she was a repeat DUI, I could support a life sentence.

    Here are the google map coordinates for that border station that was in China, the one where it showed everyone running for the lives and suddenly the building disappeared.

    The water, rocks and mud actually came from the south and was pushing north, but north leads to only higher mountains meaning that the water eventually turned around and washed back through that area a second time. One hotel nearby there says “temporarily closed” on google maps. I don’t think its temporary.

    The jury will give her a free pass.

    I remember I won about $1000 (it was worth more at that time) betting that black jurors were not going to convict OJ Simpson, even with the victim’s blood in his car and on his socks. Those who lost their money kept saying “but the evidence!” and I smiled and said it won’t matter.

    This woman had no history of anything resembling insanity. She was not deemed a threat to her children by ANY prior diagnosis. She planned the killings carefully. She strangled her little kids intentionally and in the most cruel way possible.

    It won’t matter. The defense made her into THE victim, horrible society let her down, her family let her down, her husband let her down, everyone is to blame except her. There are people dressed in pink at the courthouse chanting their support for her. The jurors are moved to tears not for the dead children, but for this poor victim of society.

    It’s sick, its depraved, it’s disgusting, but it is the world we live in. And believe me, it will get worse.

    in the google maps you can also see the area on the side of the mountain where the camera was located, and below it that little building that held for several seconds before also being flattened. By the looks of it, the flow of water, mud, and rocks was at least 30 feet above the tops of the buildings, meaning there was no way anyone shown in that video could have survived.

    My interest in this case is not about Clancy herself or even the children, these things happen fairly frequently and outside of the media hype, it is not different from other similar cases.

    The problem that I see with it is that it is strongly indicative of a changing society that more and more accepts the concept that criminality is “society driven” to the detriment of personal responsibility.

    Take the murder of the health insurance executive, shot in the back while walking on the street in NYC. The outpouring of support for the murderers is unbelievable, and the number of people who think it is justified because he was an “evil representative” of capitalism. Bet that during his trial, he will have “supporters”.

    Take George Floyd. Even if you deem the manner of his death horrific and unjustified, the truth is he was a low life drug addict criminal. The fact he might not deserve to die as he did doesn’t make him a role model. Yet you had the speaker of the House kneeling for him and the President of the United States at his memorial.

    This is reflected in the movement to defund the police, end incarceration. “reform” criminal justice”, etc. It is all part of meme that people are not responsible for their criminal actions, society is.

    I think to deny that this trend is happening is absurd.

    Way too early to write off AK; the vote total is about 159k, almost all of it in. Thats much lower than a GE in November, and the Dems had two high profile races along with their hatred of Trump to get them out for the primary. Peltola will likely not cross 50% even with this smaller, Dem heavy electorate, but even if she did, it would not matter in this round, the 50% threshold only counts in November.

    Replacing a solid conservative like Cornyn who was in a leadership in a position for a baggage laden loose canon like Paxton was a huge mistake.

    Why then did Cornyn do so badly in his run-off contest with Paxton? Cornyn also outspent Paxton by huge margins. If Cornyn was such a “solid conservative” why didn’t the base support him?
