I was talking to someone who knows about Russian culture, and it would not be a surprise if Putin was toppled, sooner rather than later. It’s not just the Moscow bombing, it’s the national embarrassment which strikes to the very soul of each person who has been trying to climb or even survive there. Hard to explain, but don’t say that I didn’t warn the Putin fans….his time has come

Yeah, Putin is delusional to keep this war going. He really screwed up. Hundreds of thousands of dead Russians for what? Bloody stalemate for years? To say nothing of the cost to their economy. That’s absolutely insane.

I spoke to someone last week who assured me, and vehemently so, that Putin was just defending himself from Ukraine. That he didn’t want Ukraine’s territory, but was left with no alternative and he has been victimized by the evil and corrupt Zelensky. Does anyone know which channel number Pravada broadcasts on American cable TV?

Putin is taking it on the chin 24/7 and for what? Stubborn KGB holdover delusional about bringing back the Soviet empire. He’s now much less a threat to Europe than ever. I’d argue that he never was. Big bad Russians were never ten feet tall. Their military is in a meat grinder for as far as the eye can see. Couldn’t happen to a nicer guy. LOL

Phil, order “The Iron Broom” book I have linked above. Fascinating insights into the Russian military. It was easy for them to march around in impressive parades and hide behind their nukes. But for conventional warfare, they were never quite the red menace we presumed them to be. Nukes? Yes, terrifying. But not their conventional military machine.

The Red Army stopped being truly impressive once Lend Lease ended. Yes, it was massive, but without our materiel (everything from boots to trucks and even aircraft), they were mostly an impenetrable wall of flesh (quantity being its own quality), ably handled by a handful of competent commanders, namely, Zhukov.

Any large army that is willing to sacrifice a huge number of soldiers to gain limited objectives is dangerous.
In a way, we are spoiled. We lost 13 soldiers in the Iran war. Even 20 years in Afghanistan and 5 ears in Iraq produced about 7k dead, which the Russians are willing to sacrifice in a week in Ukraine.
Because Putin is a dictator with full control of the Russian media and no political opposition, he does not have to justify or explain the casualties.
Russia can overrun a lot of Europe with that mentality so the idea that they are not a threat is Neville Chamberlain level of stupidity.
Russia is winning in Ukraine. They have hundreds of thousands of troops in enemy territory. They now occupy 25% of Ukraine. By all definitions, that is winning.
Whether it is worth the cost is a separate issue.

Wishful thinking.
“March into Europe” maybe not yet, but had the Russians been successful annexing Ukraine they would definitely continue their expansionist policy.
Putin has said as much. Ignoring him is idiocy.

Putin is made more dangerous by the fact that the western Eurotrash refuses to defend itself, relying on our nuclear umbrella as well as the much braver Poles, Czechs, and various Eastern European countries who know what a Russian occupation means.

Agreed on the Eurotrash that refuses to defend itself. Britain’s military has become a joke. France’s always was. Germany? LOL Spain? LOL Since all four nations have already surrendered their countries to the Moslem hordes I really couldn’t give a shit. F em. Now, the Poles? Different story. They deserve defending as do generally, most of the other Eastern European countries. Not a single American life is worth sacrificing for the western Europeans. Like I said, screw em!

There continue to be stories of corruption in Ukraine, rights taken away from citizens, with many political prisoners incarcerated for criticizing Zelensky and his government. But, @ HHR, some turn their eyes away from one country’s internal inhumane practices (Ukraine) and only dote on another country’s inhumane practices (Russia). They both are being run into the ground by dictator type leaders. There is little to rave about when so many are being gratuitously killed for such a futile war between two egomaniacs.

Bitter, no one here has ignored Putin’s crimes or evil history – not Tina, Chicon nor myself. However, the Ukrainian War has been controversial or opposed for many reasons – the level of corruption attributed to it’s governmental officials; the unwarranted jailing of civilians; loss of freedom of speech, the press, and religion; horrendous battle field deaths; and the lack of audits for aid given continuously to Ukraine despite the continuous assertions of government corruption. I also think you demeaning someone for criticizing a leader overstaying his presidency shows both bias and hypocrisy on your part.

And also a fantastic description of the Anglosphere in recent years; Britain (no longer “Great” and hasn’t been for years), Canada, Australia, and New Zealand have all engaged in such acts of tyranny agianst their own citizens, but the first two on the list are by far the worst offeders.
While those countries lack “battlefield deaths,” they make up for it by importing vicious savages who murder their own indigenous populations to make up for it and then callously gaslight their citizenry that such things are not happening, or represent cultural enrichment to the extent that they acknowledge the barbarism at all.

My post here today was triggered by the “rah, rah” over Ukraine’s military feat of attacking deeply into Russia – Moscow. What will happen now is Russia will execute a counter attack into Kiev creating mayhem and death – and on and on it goes. I don’t view wars as necessarily the “end-all-be-all,” especially when it is started in such a dumb way by Biden, fueled by an ex KGB thug, extended by an ex-comedian who has become obsessed with power, and suffered mainly by the “little people” in both countries.
I personally have distanced myself from commenting on this war, since DW said I spoiled an earlier thread by posting a link dealing with Ukrainian news that didn’t correspond to the theme of his thread. Today was only a response to the war delirium comments effecting a thread that was supposedly geared to a poll in MI.

So Trump is given a $400 million plain from Qatar. The US spends about a billion dollars making it ready as an Airforce One. And then the plane is handed to Trump Library after the end of this term.
I think if Biden had done something like that, we’d be hearing a lot more about it.
Putin took advantage of a weak president, Biden, who said it was ok to do a little invasion. Putin never would have crossed the border if he had had a definitive “Don’t invade Ukraine, period!” So, I hold Biden as an enabler of this mess.

Paul, many others felt Putin would not have threatened and then invaded Ukraine if it weren’t for Biden’s weak leadership in this country. Also both times Ukraine was invaded it was under democrat leadership. First Crimea when Obama was president, and nothing was done to deter it. Then Biden, when he became president.
Bitter, it wasn’t that Putin cared about what a US president thought. What drove Putin to think he could invade a country at will was because he saw how Obama brushed the Crimea invasion aside, and knew Biden was even whimpier than Obama. If Trump was president, Putin’s calculations, about the ease of defeating Ukraine, and consequential actions would have been far different.

Dr. Andrew Huberman just confirmed a “wild conspiracy theory” about incandescent lights and LED bulbs. The long wavelengths found in incandescents increase your metabolism and “charge your mitochondria.” Conversely, the LED bulbs that most of you have in your house are “causing disruptions in mitochondrial function.” DR. ANDREW HUBERMAN: “Your mitochondria function better, you increase ATP production, your metabolism increases in the presence of red light, long wavelength light to the skin.” “Shine long wavelength light on somebody, watch blood glucose levels in a blood glucose test, and it’s blunted.” “Now, the LED lights that are commonly used now… that short wavelength light, in the absence of long wavelength light, has been shown to damage the mitochondria.” “This used to be considered crazy. This was like chemtrail crazy, right?” “But now we’re starting to see from animal studies and human studies, from Glenn Jeffreys and others, that people’s vision gets better when they get in front of an incandescent bulb once a day.” “If they get sunlight, which also has long-wavelength light, your vision improves because of improvements in mitochondria.” The Biden administration quietly pushed incandescents out of the market through aggressive energy regulations. But you can still find them online today if you look hard enough. If that health insight stood out to you, there’s a lot more where that came from.

The worst anyone (supporters of my opponent) did when i ran for WV House of Delegates was to take one of my two 8 ‘X 4’ plywood campaign signs(costing $100 each )in the dead of night on election Eve and hauled it away to burn on someone ‘s farm.
so…Juneteenth
First, that sounds ignorant. No such date. Say June 19.
Second, that is not the date all slaves were free. Lincoln ‘s Eman cipation proclamation was an EO issurd on Jan. 1, 1863. It only applied to slaves in 10 of the 11 states of the confederacy
It did not apply for slaves in DE, MD. D.C., MO, or in WV.
Third, it was not the date the 14 Amendment was passed by congress (June 13, 1866) nor the date it was ratified by the requisite number of states to add it to the constitution (July 9, 1868).
it was the date that a bunch of slaves in TX found out the civil war was over and the south surrendered. The surrenderr happened in April, 1865.
Two months later when fe eral troops went into TX, they roll them the war was over and they were no longer slaves
The same union general told the slaves to stay on the farms, etc where they were and work for the owners for wages.
Get real.
Maybe the Black community should pick either day Emancipation proclamation was issued, day civil war ended, day congress passed the 14th amendment or day the requisite number of states ratified it to make it part of the constitution.
For God sake pick one of those dates if you need a date….Do not just pick some random date when a bunch of slaves in TX happen to find out they were free two months after the Civil war ended.

PLUS this Juneteenth nonsense essentially messed up my day. The mail did not run so my outgoing mail was not picked up today, my trip to the bank was fruitless because when I got there I realized the damn banks were closed due to this juneteenth foolishness.

They can be true but there is no equivalency here.
Putin did not invade Ukraine because of Biden.
He invaded Ukraine because he wanted to create a Greater Russia or a new USSR and Ukraine’s vast agricultural and mineral (and human) resources were a good.
Had Putin only invaded the pockets of the Donbas he already de facto controlled and declared them part of Russia, you could say Biden gave him the green light for that.
But a full scale invasion on all sides and the attempt to replace the Ukrainian government with a puppet had NOTHING to do with Biden.
