In this context, it’s the full leather-belt treatment—no light swat. The DC Circuit just issued a writ of mandamus, calling the district court’s order a “clear abuse of discretion” that encroaches on the Executive Branch. Ouch.

  6. he day a parishioner’s letter to the editor or posting something in a Catholic forum changes a Papal position, please let me know.”

    Zzzz…

How do you think a communist pope got elected?

Cardinals elect the pope They rise up through local dioceses that can be influenced by the local parishioners. The reason there are so many liberal/communist cardinals is because so many Catholics have allowed leftists to take over their local dioceses.

Letters to the editors won’t change a Papal position. But if local parishioners started taking stands against Marxism you can bet that eventually the message will get through to the Vatican.

I was not raised Catholic but I grew up in a Catholic country. Even then I remember my parents talking about “red” priests advocating Communist doctrine. Commie Francis and the new communist Pope are products of local dioceses.

The idea that Catholic parishioners have no say in who leads them is stupid. Same for any church. Jews are split into three main categories, Reform, Conservative and Orthodox. These divisions reflect the will of the members.

Now, maybe most US Catholics are now liberals and accepting of the far left Vatican leadership. But even if that is the case, why not try to change it if you are not in agreement?

    Why?

    You need two Republicans.

You need Steyer to drop down, Porter and some of the others to gain ground.

You want Hilton to come in with over 20% and a second place R with say 18%.

Tall order, but in any case Chad Bianco dropping out would ensure one Dem makes it to the second round and the governorship.

Odd comment from somebody who clearly has no idea how the Church runs.

If I wanted a say in my religious leader, I would become a Protestant (who may change denominations several times throughout their lives) or Jewish. I think Pope Leo is a leftist who is wrong on many political issues but does not meet the definition of Communism or Marxism as he does not advocate for collective ownership of the means of production.

Jason must think parishioners elect priests who elect bishops who elect cardinals who elect the Pope.

Zzzzz… what a load of crap.

Why is China obligated to respect a U.S. blockade?”

    Ahhh, good question.

China should advocate for NO blockade by anyone. If they are against blockades, the should tell that to the Iranians, not the US, which wants the straights open to ALL nations.

Now if the Chinese want their ships to be the only ones to skirt the Iranian blockade while all other nations have to abide by it, then the can GFTs, no can do.

The “we oppose blockages except for OUR ships” is not going to be a convincing argument.

They would have to get in line.

Hundreds of ships are doing exactly that.

But China is buying Iranian oil at a discount because the Iranians are shut out of Western markets. There is no reason to give them any discount.

  17. Jason must think parishioners elect priests who elect bishops who elect cardinals who elect the Pope.”

No, I only said Cardinals elect the Pope.

I said local parishioners have influence in local dioceses and can make their voices heard. If local parishioners stop attending church or stop making donations, that will certainly be noted. I didn’t say the Catholic Church was a democracy, far from it.

I do know Catholics who have switched churches because of disagreements with the priest or the way the Mass was run or other reasons. That is a form of influence.

As for the the Popes not being communists, you are living in la la land. Francis explicitly said wealth and money and profit were the root of all evil and that the capitalist system was evil. He continuously attacked businesses as evil exploiters of the poor. He ignored the fact Capitalism has lifted billions of people out of poverty, while communism has done the opposite.

So the “does not advocate for control of the means of production” is BS. What is the alternative to Capitalism and market based economies? If you oppose the concept of profit, then you are advocating for control of the means of production.

  18. Here is what Trump said. What exactly do you disagree with, Paul?

President Trump lashed out at Pope Leo XIV in a lengthy social media post Sunday night, calling the pontiff “WEAK on Crime, and terrible for Foreign Policy.”

“I don’t want a Pope who thinks it’s OK for Iran to have a Nuclear Weapon. I don’t want a Pope who thinks it’s terrible that America attacked Venezuela, a Country that was sending massive amounts of Drugs into the United States and, even worse, emptying their prisons, including murderers, drug dealers, and killers, into our Country,” Mr. Trump wrote.

Suck it, Euro trash. Save the lectures. Britain maybe ought to be concerned about just hanging on to the Falklands. Right now, a girl scout troop could take it from them and there wouldn’t be a thing what’s left of the British “navy” could do about it.

Watching the British film Chariots of Fire (1981) the screenwriter took some delight in pointing out lingering antisemitism in the elderly leadership of Gonville and Caius College in Cambridge in the years after WWI. But the students, the classmates of Harold Abrahams all thought he was great and had no antisemitism at all. Now 100 years later its the professors shocked at the antisemitism running rampant among the students.

The man portraying Truman said he had lived in the same Missouri town where Truman retired and met him several times as a child. He recalled a time when his mother, Mrs. Truman and Mrs. Truman’s maid were walking into town. He asked if they could get a milkshake. His mother said they didn’t have time but he later found out that the maid, who was black, was not welcome in the store. Too bad Mrs. Truman had never said, “We and our maid are going to eat here, mf-ers. My husband nuked racist scumbags like you.”

Proves my point. The parishioners in this case want Latin Mass, if they didn’t there probably wouldn’t be one. They are influencing the church in some manner.

Same could be done if enough parishioners rebelled against the Communist doctrine permeating large sections of the Catholic Church.

In my view, communism will eventually destroy the Catholic Church, because the people that believe in it are not really supporters of any religion, they are using it to further their agenda.

You might hear great praise from the Stop Oil nuts towards the Marxist Pope for supporting their cause, but they don’t care about the church, God, or religion. The Pope is just a useful prop for the moment. Same with the MSM, giddy about the Pope “standing up to Trump”, they will have as much use for the church as Castro did in Cuba.

This is typical of trying to transpose modern norms into a different society.

Maybe the store owners weren’t racist, maybe they knew if it got known that they catered to blacks they would lose the white business and go broke.

Now if you oppose gay marriage you are a homophobe. But only 20 years ago Obama ran for President opposing gay marriage.

We can all agree that racism was always wrong. But not everyone who conformed to the. norms of the time was necessarily a racist. Riding in the front of the bus while accepting blacks rode in the back or using a white restroom knowing there was a separate one for blacks did not make you evil.

Trump made a mistake by attacking NATO for not helping. As Bitter correctly points out, NATO is a DEFENSIVE organization and has no role in the war against Iran.

But there is nothing wrong in requesting help outside of NATO from allies, the Brits, French, etc. could assist without involving NATO.

It is an important distinction that Trump and Vance are failing to make.

Actually, it doesn’t. Their church broke from the Catholic Church and now they listen to an excommunicated Cardinal in France. So, they are really just Protestants now following a rebel but not Catholic. My town has an Episcopal Church that separated from their main church over their opposition to gay marriage. They joined a South African group. Their life. Their choice. But they did not reform their church. They left it.
