What happened to General Patton?

December 1945. The shocking news broke that U.S. General George Patton was involved in a vehicular accident in Germany, leaving him paralyzed from the neck down. He died days later.

Patton was on the way to a hunting trip when his staff car was struck head on by a military truck. The truck driver was way off his assigned route and witness testimony suggested he might have been under the influence, explaining why the truck suddenly veered into a head on collision with Patton’s car. Patton’s driver was unhurt. The subsequent investigation quickly concluded it was just a minor vehicular accident, and Patton was just unfortunate to have been thrown forward at an awkward angle resulting in a broken neck.

There have been attempts in recent years to re-think this conclusion and proposals of a conspiracy theory have spread–particularly with the dawn of the internet.

Patton was a lightning rod for trouble with his big mouth. He was constantly in and out of trouble with his superiors throughout the war, and in the subsequent occupation of Germany, he had embarrassed the USA command by failing to de-nazify administrative positions and he said that Russia was the real enemy, not Germany. He also compared Germans who joined the Nazi party to Americans who joined the Democratic party.

Given that Patton seemed unwilling to avoid the microphone, he was perceived to be a liability rather than an asset once the fighting in Europe was over. After Germany surrendered, Patton was refused a commission in the Pacific war with Japan.

The conspiracy theory suggests Patton was assassinated by truck, and when that failed to fully do the job, they finished him off in the hospital. He had started to show some improvement, even getting some feeling back in his upper body, but then took a sudden turn for the worse and died. The accident investigation was quickly wrapped up without any apparently lingering questions, adding to the apparent suspicions of those looking for a conspiracy.

What is your answer regarding Patton’s death:

  1. He was an unfortunate victim of a motor vehicle accident.
  2. He was taken out on purpose because he was a political liability during a time of fragile peace.

Essentially, the only evidence for a conspiracy involving Patton’s death include the following:

    a) he was famous

    b) he died unexpectedly

    c) he had his enemies including people who wished he would shut up.

That is enough for some people to declare it a conspiracy.

“Meanwhile, the U.S. Court of International Trade blocked the President’s use of tariffs under emergency powers, a decision squarely grounded in the Constitution and federal law. The Trump administration quickly appealed, continuing a now-familiar approach: act first, dare the system to stop you later.

This pattern – be it on tariffs, immigration, birthright citizenship, DOGE, anything really – shows little of the institutional restraint observed by past administrations. The argument isn’t necessarily that Mr. Trump’s policies are bad. It’s that the method of their enactment matters. Presidents are not kings. Policy enacted through executive fiat is easily undone. Laws endure or usually prove difficult to change.

Today’s actions become tomorrow’s norms – regardless of who holds power – and great is the potential harm to unfold many moves from now. Precedent matters. The framers of the Constitution did not trust unchecked virtue, and neither should we. That’s why Americans, whatever their views on a particular president, should insist that policies be pursued within constitutional boundaries and binding judicial oversight. Otherwise, the next president has a new tool at his or her disposal. The president after that will enjoy it as well and version 3.0 is likely easier to use and faster. You get the idea. And the next president may have views unflattering to those citizens cheering on Trump’s policies today. Voicing concern only then about the means is easily defined in a single word: hypocrite.”

    Chicon”

I guess that is difficult to grasp if you a a low IQ moron.

    Elected officials are elected to:

“To represent them and do what is best for their interests.”

    Elected officials:

“Are free to vote their conscience”.

There is ABSOLUTELY no conflict between those two statements.

    None, zilch, nada.

the head-on collision was deliberately executed”

There is, of course, zero evidence of this.

    None, zero, nada, zilch.

Not to mention that “hit men” don’t usually kill their victims by head on collisions where they are driving.

I was right to put Duffy as one of my 5 favorite cabinet members..

    U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy

@SecDuffy has released a new 310-page report that concludes CA’s high-speed rail project has “no viable path forward.” In a statement just released, the

@USDOT says federal grants for the project could be terminated in 37 days after the CA High Speed Rail Authority responds to the report. “The detailed report, which is over 300 pages, contains 9 key findings including missed deadlines, budget shortfalls, and overrepresentation of projected ridership. The two grants total roughly $4 billion in taxpayer money. As the letter notes, CHSRA has up to 37 days to respond, after which the grants could be terminated.”

  92. What are you feeling?

A sense of sadness and…Oh. My health.

Weakness through entire body. More pain in right leg. than a week ago when I was able to walk with a cane for short distances. Back to walker. Shivering. Periodic cough that almost makes me throw up. Other than that, I am great.
