  3. The reason I have not been posting is that I oppose the registration system. HHR for 20 years never required personal emails be used to register. Yes we had some kooks and trolls but it worked. We had threads with hundreds of posts and dozens of posters. I think it is a profoundly stupid idea if you are trying to get more posters. If you want to limit yourself to the dozen posters who want to register fine, it is not my blog.

    I noticed your absence.

I was worried you may have been one of the York PA area fire fighters who were injured due to that big fire there.

  5. jason, what you don’t know is that bunu wasn’t just ‘some kook’ who occasionally posted his antisemitic spam. He was peppering us with countless youtube links and links to bogus web pages, and that was a huge turnoff if we just let it go. Even with bitter, vic and myself deleting his stuff as fast as it came in, we couldn’t keep up. I didn’t want to have to do it, but we had no choice. Either let bunu win, and present this page as an anti-semitic site of kooks, or restore order by requiring a login account.

  7. DW, I saw your comment “jason never thought Biden would be replaced”.

Profoundly dishonest without context, but maybe you thought I would never post again.

My point was always that your idea that the Dems would replace Biden with a “dark horse” was BS because as soon as the dark horse was named, it would lose luster because the Dems have no bench. You pushed this meme for months and it didn’t happen exactly for the reasons I gave even though it was obvious that Biden was cognitively impaired.

Now things do happen. Biden self destructed at the debate beyond any reasonable prediction. Trump was almost killed.

So for you to come out now and say “hey jason was wrong, Biden MIGHT still be replaced” is intellectual dishonesty.

My point that the Dems would not engineer a coup because they had no candidate was absolutely the right take. Your point that the Dems had a white knight (Mark Warner, LOL) that would immediately be the election winner was, and still is, BS.

Without the debate, Biden would have cruised to the nomination.

    GFY.

And now I wish I had heeded your advice to go to the betting markets and bought cheap on the question as to Biden not being the nominee.

  12. It is rather telling that the assassination attempt on Trump has barely, if at all, move the needle on the POTUS race.

Certainly not what any of us thought would be the public response.

The strong and lasting Trump negatives to 40% of the population simply were not swayed or negated due to the assassination attempt.

As for me, since June 8, I have been posting on Facebook the 50 chapters of the book I wrote more than 10 years ago and never published or shared about what it was like growing up in my little town in WV. That has involved a great deal of time and effort. I am now working on another bunch of chapters of college shenanigans to perhaps share on Facebook.

All of this has been a good diversion for me from the political scene with positive personal outcomes.

My only drawback is that when the mood strikes to write and I am in a mood to be on a roll and productive and pleased in my writing, my wife enters and decides it is necessary to stop what I am doing and deal with this or that. Fix this or that suddenly broke. let’s go for a drive, you need to get the mailbox post painted, please deal with all the boxes of cereal that you have in the pantry, can you dig me another hole in the yard to plant something else, Hey, a plastic piece of the ice maker in the fridge just fell into the freezer with the ice, etc.

She does not understand how it is with writers, and they need to write when the urge falls upon them and the mental writing juices are flowing.

Things seem to suddenly “break” on a daily basis in this house that is fairly new. I am perplexed and astounded that yesterday my wife, while just walking by, pulled loose a 6-foot section of quarter round from the edge of the floor yesterday.

  13. Regarding the election, as I stated before I cannot vote for a ticket with JD Vance on it.

He is an isolationist first and foremost, and profoundly ignorant of the fact that stability in Europe, Asia and the Middle East is in OUR interest, and the idea that the US is an island with no stake in the rest of the world is profoundly stupid.

He is also a believer in economic isolationism and in Trump’s trade policy based on trade wars and tariffs. I believe this to be harmful to the US economy in the long run.

As I have stated here many times before, the Republican party is now a populist party. It is my view that this the only path it has to survive, as a populist working class party. Amoral Scumbag ridiculed my idea that the 2014 election was a dead cat bounce, but that is what it was. Most R voters, at least for primaries, are primarily isolationists, not conservatives. Trump and Vance are populists first, isolationists second, and conservatives a distant third. Tucker Carlson should have been booed off the stage for being a Putin stooge, but instead he got a standing ovation. Shameful.

I would have voted for Trump because despite his isolationist views, he is pragmatic and can often be talked into doing the right thing. Vance is not pragmatic. He is dogmatic.

Bitter will be saying i support Biden in 3, 2, 1. So be it. I am not a Republican and the party does not own my vote.

In any case, I think it will be much better for the country if Trump wins. But given his age and what happened in Butler I don’t feel comfortable elevating JD Vance to a heartbeat from the Presidency.

Carry on, I will still check in once in awhile to read the comments, but until this site is open to new people and maybe some of the old posters who would like to come back, I am not really interested in posting.

we also pointed out that this decision might not be forever, but we needed a break from the bunu madness. There is only so much time, and I didn’t have time to spend deleting all his garbage so the site wouldn’t look like an anti-semitic paulbot site that worships zero hedge and lew rockwell.

I tried everything I could before the nuclear option. I tried banning all the keywords, but bunu resorted to “rock.well,” for instance, as a workaround. So I banned all the possible combos with periods between the letters of his keywords. He still didn’t stop. And so with great reluctance, we flipped the switch.

  21. And btw, I would definitely be selling at 74 cents, not waiting for it to go to 100.

President Joe Biden’s campaign chair is acknowledging that he has “seen some slippage in support” but that he is “absolutely” still in the race and can still beat former President Donald Trump.

Biden reelection campaign chair Jen O’Malley Dillon told MSNBC on Friday that the growing calls for Biden to leave the race have made for difficult moments. But she insisted Biden isn’t dropping out and “we have multiple pathways to victory.”

  27. Jason, – This was not a Bunu only attack. He obviously passed on to his Pauliac cohorts that he was being banned and they instituted a full on attack. It went way beyond just trying to hijack our logon to this page, as they were able to extract some email addresses, including my own, and launched other attacks. Cutting him off now was necessary, despite your protestation.

I believe this is short term, and I would even suggest taking the filter off for a weekend and seeing if his cohorts return. If not, then we can leave it the way it was. We can always put it back on.

  42. My thoughts on the POTUS race:

    Why Trump will win:

    1. Its a rematch of the 2020 race that he barely lost, covid induced fraud and all, so he only needs to move the needle just a little bit.
    2. Polling on voter’s perceptions of Trump’s job approval from his first term is much better than it was on election day 2020.
    3. Biden’s job approval is in Jimmy Carter territory.
    4. Biden is clearly suffering the effects of old age, including memory loss and energy issues. He is clearly cognitively impaired, and now after the first debate everyone knows it.
    5. Trump is really ahead in the polling, as confirmed by the current behavior of media analysts, pundits and Democrat elected officials.
    6. Trump now has a money advantage, as Biden’s money has dried up.
    7. Trump has a clear advantage on policy issues that resonate with voters, if he will leverage these issues.
    8. Trump was helped by the census reallocation of electoral votes, resulting in better electoral college math.
    9. Trump was shot and survived an assassination attempt. It does not appear to be helping a lot, but in a race of inches, any little help does help. Most POTUS elections are decided around sound-bites, impressions, and brief images. Trump is winning this aspect of the race.
    10. Trump is running in a lane all by himself. RFK Jr. is a leftist and will be on the ballot in most if not all states. Stein and Oliver are both leftists who will siphon off votes from Biden, not Trump. West is on the ballot in GA and MI, and will take away key votes that might have gone to Biden.

    Why Trump will lose:

    1. He has a firm ceiling of about 48% nationally.
    2. The hatred for him on the left is huge.
    3. Democrats will stop at nothing to keep him out of the white house.
    4. Biden is a pawn and will be sacrificed if needed.
    5. Trump has been fairly disciplined so far, but could say something that will affect his chances.
    6. Despite Biden’s terrible debate performance, his electoral math is currently only just a little bit outside the margin of polling error.
    7. Whoever the Dems nominate will have the FULL support of the cheering media.
    8. Even a brokered Dem convention will be spun as a positive, democracy in action.
    9. The laws that allowed election fraud are mostly still in force.
    10. They still have not fixed the plumbing problem in Atlanta that ‘forced’ the stoppage of vote counting in 2020.

Don’t underestimate both his, and his families, desire to be President. In his and their minds he will win.

It’s going to take an awful lot of “persuasion” to get him off the ballot…and, you have to content with all the voters who voted in the primaries. There are a lot of them who will feel disenfranchised.

”As a Democrat, I’m not sure I know how my party will respond in a month or so to the Trump candidacy. For now, it’s enough to say that the challenges it is facing have only grown larger and more substantial after this week after a speech and convention that could only be called an unqualified success. The events and address in Milwaukee will stand up well to whatever attempts the mainstream media make to discredit Trump and his speech. (And they have already begun.)

Some may say that Trump’s speech went on too long on Thursday night. And that may be true. But the American people, unlike political commentators, simply turn the television off, they don’t give the candidate demerits for being long-winded”
