  5. The Teamsters President spoke positively about the Vance choice. There has been a large shift among low and middle income workers toward the Republican party over the past few elections.

Perhaps this choice was designed to aim at that developing demographic. The knuckle dragger crowd is viewed as the unwashed by the suburban Republicans. This could be what irritates some – Robbie would be going bonkers, I’m sure.

  9. A Marine knows just how horrible wars are and knows not to get us needlessly involved in them. Someone who never served likes to glorify wars!

  12. Show me the post where I glorified war. Sending weapons to Ukraine to stop Putin’s advance into Europe is in America’s interests.

If China attacks Taiwan, would you support American military aid or not?

Phillies Alec Bohm advances to semifinal round. Holt pressed Biden on not toning down rhetoric. Biden took long time to answer and said he is awesome. Noem is beautiful and smart. Now a parade of isolationist speakers.

  14. This is the problem that I discussed earlier, with the take my ball and go home sentiment that permeates the country.

First and foremost the whole “endless war” and “neocon” garbage is straight from the Ron Paul playbook. Sad to see Republicans adopting it.

Next…you can advocate for a strong foreign policy that protects American interests and friendly nations and a strong military without being an advocate for war. You can advocate for ensure our freedom without sacrificing money for the border.

This concept that if you believe in a strong foreign policy you are for “endless wars” is BS. Pure BS, and mostly espoused by those who have never had a shot fired at them defending the country.

    Nuance people…nuance.

  15. Vic, I was partially listening to Vance with Hannity. From what I heard, his views on foreign policy and use of the military seemed aligned to yours. That said, if he mentioned Ukraine, I didn’t hear it.

“Elon Musk has said he plans to commit around $45 million a month to a new super political-action committee backing former President Donald Trump’s presidential run, according to people familiar with the matter.”

This is really something…you can add Bill Ackman, Cathie Wood, David Saks, and more from Silicon and Wall Street…major money coming in for Trump.

    ‘CYNICAL A**HOLE’… ‘MORAL DISASTER’…

So it seems DRUDGE likes the pick of Vance and is extoling his virtues, and Vance’s earlier opposition to Trump…..

I am sure the Dems won’t use any of THAT in the campaign going forward.

    **********************

…..so I guess I’ll change my mind about Vance and declare that Vance was the best pick for Trump to make. Trump could not have been more brilliant.

There were simply no other candidates for VP who could have brought more to the table and put more states in play in Nov.

After all, Vance won the senate election in Ohio in a landslide.

And if people might have pause about Trump’s age and something happening to him, we will have a guy as VP waiting in the wings who does not have any executive experience in government but has been in the U.S. Senate for a year and a half. That is comforting.

I feel sure Trump has other plans up his sleeve to win the electoral votes in VA, PA, etc.

  35. Great first night at the RNC. Great diverse group of speakers. IMO the best speaker that could potentially help Trump and the Republican Party the most was the Teamsters President Sean O’Brien. No, he did not endorse Trump but, just his presence at the Convention and telling his 1.3 million members that the government has not delivered for them is huge. Since Joe Biden essentially is in control of the government. And to be open and not be beholding to any political party. Which is obviously an attack on Democrats since they have always favored the Democrats.

MAGA … and the faux conservatives clinging to the Trump train and excusing the Trump platform out of pragmatic dualism will not end well.

  40. Case in point… A pornstar who in March 2024 said that satanists were good because they help women get abortions just told a cheering crowd at the RNC that Trump made her realize the GOP was where she belongs.

As Trump smiled and Vance clapped like a seal. I am out.

  41. Well, JeffP, GWB won the popular vote in 2004, which may have had a unique set of circumstances with 9/11 and the Iraq War.

The previous Republican popular vote winner was GHWB in 1988. In eight elections since 1988, the Republicans won the popular vote once.

Who are the deadenders, those saying we should keep trying the same formula, or those who help grow the tent? Do you want purity or electoral relevance?

In a two-party system, you don’t get everything you want very often. Your choice is this new version of Republican or progressive socialism. To me, defeating socialism is more important than the purity test many espouse here.

Jason was correct that the old
Republican party is gone. A realignment began in 2016, and it continues. You have three choices: join the new team, vote Democrat, or quit.
