This is a good strategy. It gives Biden some time to fend off the wolves, and if he does well on the interview (which he will) the WH will use it to say Biden is fine.
This assumes he wants to hang on, which I think at least Jill and Hunter do.

The CNN poll today shows Harris is statistically tied with Trump, definitely better than Biden who was down by six. She does far better among Independents while Biden trails by 10. The other names mentioned have no national name recognition, but when they are offered, they still have a higher topline number than Biden while Trump has a lower topline number against any of them.
Harris would not be the strongest Democrat, but she would still be stronger than Biden. It will probably wind up being her replacing him. Obviously, there will be attacks against her (or anyone else) but the narrative immediately changes, and Trump is the old guy in cognitive decline, the left-wing protest vote for RFK Jr and the others starts to fade away (pretty brutal article out there about his past today) and the race goes from being a referendum on Biden to being one on Trump.

The bottom line is that she runs stronger than Biden does. I don’t think that is even a question at that point.
It is also true that Donald Trump is a very unpopular and weak candidate himself. Republicans certainly had other options.
Of course there are aspects of the Biden Administration that are quite unpopular, which is why she would not be strongest candidate, but it appears that Biden does not even speak to Harris. He has not spoken to her since the debate. He has Hunter, the convicted felon. in the White House staff/strategy meetings instead of his own Vice President and running-mate.
So, once he leaves, and if she gets the nod, she can completely throw him under the bus and say she has barely spoken to him in years and she will go about things differently. The party at this point won’t give a damn about protecting Biden’s feelings. This has definitely happened political with many Governor/Lt. Governor relationships on the state level.

Oh, I think there is a HUGE question about that. Despite his problems, Biden is still relatively close to Trump in national polling.
I think Harris is a much weaker candidate, she is viewed as a ditzy dingbat by most Americans.
The only reason I don’t want a switch is that I don’t want to switch the dynamics which are now favoring Trump.

My guess is that any sentence of jail time or home confinement would immediately result in three to four hundred million in campaign contributions within a week of the sentencing. — Phil

Logically, Jason, I think you are right about a later sentencing date making it even harder to toss Trump in jail only six weeks prior to election day. Backfire would be my guess as well. The question is, will Democrats rely on logic or will their absolute hatred for Donald Trump carry the day and result in them jailing him anyway? You’d think they would be smarter than that, but if Biden or Harris is trailing in September will they simply do it as one last Hail Mary?
