I think we need to probably start discussing the ramifications of the hack judge’s sentencing of Trump in 19 days. What about a a six month jail sentence in Rikers? You know, long enough to conveniently keep him off the campaign trail through the November election. Is there anything that this judge has done over the past six months that gives anyone confidence that this judge won’t do that? If so, what exactly is it? I haven’t seen it. Trump stands a better than even chance of winning. They will do whatever they can to stop him. That fact should already be evident to everyone. Trump has shown a real connection with people on the campaign trail in stark contrast to Biden. I think they have to remove him from the campaign trail and they’ll absolutely do it if they think they can get away with it. Can they? — Phil

I would be very surprised if this kangaroo judge sentences Trump to jail 4 days before the convention.
Even if he wanted too, you can be sure he has already gotten the message that would backfire big time.

The scuttlebutt out there is that Merchar will put Trump in prison, as a final way to obstruct his campaigning. I think this very biased and compromised judge is capable of doing just that. However, no one is able to fully predict what kind of blow back he or the dem party would get from such a politicized move. So, IMO, he will probably restrict his movements, but not by throwing him in jail where Trump’s martyrdom will only grow.

Yeah, me too. I think that would backfire like crazy. Probably would result in a quarter of a billion in campaign contributions to Trump within the first 48 hours of the sentencing. I imagine could immediately petition SCOTUS for habeas corpus and it would probably be granted.
Or the kangaroo judge could sentence Trump to jail pending appeals (which could take years) just so the Dems can say he got jail time.

If Trump was smart (which he is not) he would chose Haley as VP. This would
–blunt the valid argument that trump is anti-woman,
–attract women voters,
–appeal to the undecideds that might think, Well, if Trump dies resigns or is removed from office for future goofiness at least we can finally have a woman who will step in and be president.

MY choice for VP would be DeSantis, but Trump has spent $200 MM denigrating and trashing him, and choosing him would make Trump eat lots more crow than he will have to eat if he chooses Haley.

Gen X and Z would be a demographic attracted to a Vance choice. He won the TPUSA vote, hands down. Vance is around 40 – handsome too – attracting woman voters. Plus, he’s smart, articulate, feisty, poor to middle class upbringing, hardly a moron……however, I’m beginning to feel he will stay in the Senate as someone else will be chosen. BTW, if you take a look at Trump’s rallies, there are plenty of women supporters there, as well as a broad palette of ethnicities.

Trump has lately been making adjustments to the way he operates, and tempering his words, which indicates he won’t choose a moron like Vance, who brings absolutely zero to the table and is not presidential, as his VP.
Referring to the last page, I listed the qualities for being a VP, none of which had anything to do with the Ukraine…which sits pretty far down the list of reasons I’d pick someone for VP.
ironically it seems to be the number one reason for hard core Trumpistas.

I agree Trump has been tempering his verbal conduct and even some of his policies. However, calling Vance a “moron” is kind of mirroring the old Trump language many of you disparage. Even though Ukraine was not listed on a presidential qualities list, nonetheless it seems anyone who is not full throttle for sending aid to Ukraine never qualifies for such a list, no matter what qualifications they may possess or what demographic they may appeal to. In the case of Vance, his rust belt, middle class background, along with his rise as a military man, attorney, successful author, Senator, fluid in foreign affairs etc are personal endowments most people don’t achieve. But, again I’m saying all this not because I think Vance necessarily will make the cut, but that he is beyond capable of holding the position of VP.

Jan. You are correct. Using negative words to describe someone rather than list the reasons why you think someone is not qualified is wrong. So, I believed Vance is not qualified because:
he comes off as a bloviating pompous closed minded individual who is incapable of entertaining a position that differs from his
he has little to no foreign policy experience, and his foreign policy acumen is zero. He has no idea how his isolationist and naive positions would affect America and Americans.
he’s difficult to get along with and would only represent a sliver of Americans and their interests rather than realizing he would be elected to serve all Americans.
he has no demonstrated ability to understand the nuance of government, or more importantly, governing…since he never has. He’s has a “take my hall and go home” mentality.
I could go on, but the above by itself disqualifies him from the office. None of which has anything to do with the Ukrainian situation, which ranks so far down the list of important issues right now. The situation there is part of an overall foreign policy that follows Reagan’s foreign policy (who ironically would be at odds With the Hard core Trumpistas who align more with Ron Paul than conservatives).

Jeff…I’d rather have Vance than Ryan be the Senator from Ohio. I would have rather had any of the others who ran in the primary against him than Vance. Both can be true.
I don’t like Hogan. I think he’s Vance at the other end of the spectrum. I wouldn’t want him as the VP candidate. I want him to win the MD senate race. Both can be true

Jeff. I used Hogan as an example of the opposite end of the spectrum to Vance, both of whom I’m happy to have in the Senate and caucusing with the GOP as opposed to a Dem. I think neither are conservatives, and represent extremes that have little appeal outside their constituency.

Handsome men and beautiful women attract more attention, get more dates, more votes etc. among certain segments of the population. Vance’s youth would also be appealing to the younger demographic, as senior citizens dominate the top of the ticket in both parties. If Vance is the VP, I’ll be happy with that choice and vote for Trump. If someone else is the VP, even someone I don’t like, I’ll vote for Trump. The main goal is to defeat Biden, or whoever else might replace him.
