Commenting on Walt’s post from the other thread. I think he eloquently prosed what most of us think. I believe that if we do expand our reader base (and again thank you Bitter and DW for an amazing job), it will make the site better in the long run.
We have to return to our roots, where all were welcome here. Discourse doesn’t have to be pretty, but it needs to be respectful. It doesn’t need to pander, neither does it need to shame or hurt. I think we are capable of expanding our horizons, and sharing the great DW polls, Bitter wit, Jason analysis, Walt stories of the millennia, and the rest of us views on issues without driving anyone competent away.
There will always be trolls like bunu, and people like Chekote, but for each one of them, there are multitudes who will be able to discuss, argue, and hopefully change minds.

I know that requests for greater civility are directed at me. I understand it. I will try to be better but if somebody is supporting Putin, whether they admit it or not, I am going to call them on it.

If Virginia is truly in play I really don’t see a path for a Biden re-election barring unimaginable fraud
Right now I have Trump at 262 EV guaranteed banked. That’s his starting point. And it’s 268 if we add Nevada (which should be strongly lean Trump, only it’s history of GOP overpolling is giving me hesitance, but Trump is running way ahead of any Reid machine/margin of cheat shenanigans).
That leaves WI, MI, PA, MN, NE-1, ME, and VA (with possibly NH and NM in play)
Literally any of these states and Trump will win

Border battles on the other side of the planet that have no real impact on us is not the American people’s problem. I certainly don’t feel any patriotic duty to throw billions and possible American lives for that corrupt nation just so the wannabe tyrants in Washington can keep their slush fund going. IMO both Russia and Ukraine are horrible governments. But as an American what concern is that to me? Just sad to see the innocent citizens caught in the middle. But again not America’s responsibility

I don’t like Hogan running at all. The GOP will now sink tens of millions into this seat and still lose smh. Governor popularity won’t translate much to national politics
And even if he wins. So what? He’d be a yes vote in all the procedural stuff that doesn’t matter and changes nothing, and a guaranteed no vote on all the critical issues where every vote matters
Just seems pointless. The only positive I can see is that he’s from a super deep blue state. If we’re gonna have a ruling class first republican at least it should be from Maryland, instead of a ruby red state like Kentucky, Oklahoma, or North Carolina

The point of having Hogan win is that I’d rather have someone there who will vote with the Party/conservatives 85% of the time versus someone who will vote 0% of the time. Also, there is the benefit of winning. Having more seats allows us to control the Senate, control committee Chairs, what comes up for votes, and most important of all….judges.
It also serves as a check and balance on Dem power. So, its paramount that we help push Hogan over the line. Trump saw that today, and in showing that maybe he has matured, stated just that. This, combined with his saying he is not going to carry out retribution, that comes in winning, demonstrates that maybe he really does get it.
If he does make this change, it will be a landslide election, and bring getting to 53-55 seats in the Senate into play

Lord. It is not a super corrupt CIA created puppet nation. Ukraine has been a country for millennia, and a separate region from Russia for most of it. It is not a “laundering operation for evil politicians.”
If Putin had not invaded, the world wouldn’t be helping them repel the invading nation that is killing its people. It’s odd that people who have never been there, do not know what the people on the ground feel having their nation invaded, tend to speak for them and tell others what they are (should be, according to them) feeling.
Is there corruption there – yes. Would not sending a dollar there help ANY situation here in the USA – No. Not one bit. Not one penny would go towards the border. Not one penny would go unspent. Liberals would find another program to spend on.
What’s being overlooked by those who advocate this type of isolationist policy forget is that it’s not actual dollars going there, it’s military hardware which has been paid for TO American companies, using American workers, who now have to replace said weapons, creating more American jobs and ensuring more Americans have money in their pocket.
BTW my final point. The Left loves Ukraine because they believe it helped get Trump impeached. The Far Right hard core Trump supporters HATE Ukraine because they blame it for getting Trump impeached. These are the far more salient points about the Ukraine policy than $$$

The Russian invasion of Ukraine, a sovereign country of 40 million with vast agricultural and mineral resources IS of “concern” to the US.
Opposing a “Greater Russia” or a new USSR is in our vital interest. We spent trillions to WIN the Cold War, and it will cost trillions later if we allow the Russians to get into a position to start a new one.
Defending our interests around the world IS a patriotic duty.
And finally, if you are ok with the invasion and the annexation of Ukraine, and you can define that as anyone who wants to that to happen or opposes the aid necessary for that not happen, IS a Putin supporter.

No, you are wrong.
If he caucuses with Rs, and is the 50th vote in the Senate if Trump wins or the 51st vote if Biden wins, it gives Rs control of the Senate.
Control of the Senate is huge, it means Rs can stop Biden’s judicial appts if he wins, or appoint conservative judges if Trump wins.
THAT “changes” everything.

Does Joe Biden get it that the American people think his policies and performance are horrible? Historically horrible?

As a former HHR regular and now a HHRPhoenix lurker, the difference in HHR at its heyday and what HHRPhoenix is today boils down to simply what happened when they changed the formula for Coke to New Coke…..it isnt the same.
I believe that most people at HHR came there for the polls. You had several regulars who posted them and everyone followed them. There was always a political issue back and forth, but the focus on the site was the polls. It simply was the best site of its kind, bar none.
HHRPhoenix is not primarily about polls. Here, polls are simply used as bait to draw posters in to be sitting targets for Bitter and Jason’s daily attacks and vitrol spewed to both real and imagined Putin supporters.
There may be a place for such things, and evidently HHRPhoenix is that place. But it does not provide nor offer the same discussions or serve the same purpose that the original did. Want to bring back the previous posters and/or attract new ones? Focus more on the polls and less on wars on the other side of the planet.
