You’d have to be an ostrich to not see that the national security apparatus (including CIA and FBI) have been interfering in the electoral process in the US. Include the clearly coordinated “charges” against Trump.
Yep, the Poll Deniers might also be called The Ostriches.

I have to marvel at Bitter’s mild hypocrisy. He constantly chastises Tina for posting “free passers,” when, according to him, there is no HHR poster that will vote for Biden (although, no one knows who Walt will vote for).
However, he continues to rail against Tina and myself, accusing us of being for Putin, when we both have never said or even implied such garbage. What gets to Bitter, though, is when anyone challenges which national security risk poses the biggest problems — a country (not an ally) thousands of miles away or a border invasion which, in the case of my primary residence, is a few hundred miles away. Furthermore, a Republican majority house could have more aggressively pitted the aid for Ukraine with the need for more border protections if they had the guts to do so.

Except that even in this scenario, it played out surprisingly well for your view, and we got it through the house and senate that we spend only $19.95 on Ukraine, and spend $1,000,000,000,000 on the southern border, not one penny would ACTUALLY get spent to improve the border security. So long as Biden is in office.

The old “leverage” BS again.
There was not leverage. Biden would never sign any “border protection” bill.
There is NO REASON to tie Ukraine aid to border security because they are unrelated.
Aid to Ukraine is in OUR interest.
The only reason Janzam and Tina oppose aid has nothing to do with money or the southern border.
It has 100% to do with the fact they see aid as an impediment to their Dear Leader Pooty Poot.

I disagree DW with your logic.
The Republican Party should be acting as a strong, viable opposition party to the Dems. Even if there is little to no chance of getting a proposal by a dim-witted governmental power, the sheer effort to challenge the government with a serious alternative bill gives exposure to the problem, demonstrating to Republican constituencies they are being honestly represented, rather than ignored – as what many see the House’s complete capitulation as being.
Furthermore, there should be more authentic reporting how badly the war is going for the average Ukrainian. They are the ones called upon to fight, oftentimes with no rotating replacements, or imprisoned for protesting against the government. There are no accurate death toll counts. There are no public discussions about those fleeing the war. Armaments are being secretly given over to Ukraine, while stories prevail of grenades and arms being secreted out of the country to be sold for profit. Sherman Tanks, given by the U.S. are either destroyed or being pulled back because of their uselessness on the front lines. Instead, all one hears and talks about are almost mythical stories of Zelenskyy emulating Churchill, or how Russia will roll over other countries after conquering Ukraine – with no real evidence to prove the latter and puff pieces to enforce the former image.

Three days of visiting (one not good, one very good day, and the last day was so-so). They rally do not have enough staff in any nursing home I have ever visited. Talked with a 98 year ld WW II marine veteran at the nursing home. Talked to another old fellow at the nursing home who really wanted someone to talk to. At the hotel last night on smoke break talked with a Vietnam army vet who was passing by (who readily admitted the war experience screwed up his head and his behavior and words supported that.

There was a small detail stuffed into the recently passed aid package allowing U.S. sanctions over Russia to go on indefinitely, giving Biden the ability to seize Russian assets, and tying future presidents hands from doing anything about it. More sensible people warned this would discourage countries from investing funds in the U.S. that could be seized, and additionally give Russia reasons to seize American assets in their country. ”They rally do not have enough staff in any nursing home I have ever visited.”
My first real job was at 16, when I hired on as a “nurse’s aide” at a local rest home. I felt it would give me early geriatric experience that would be helpful when I became an RN. It was an eye-opener, even then, how poor the nursing care was for the elderly in some of these facilities. The staffing was usually insufficient, the care impersonal when there were extreme shortages of personnel. I worked the evening shift and sometimes had as many as 20 patients to get ready for bed, at my young age. It was a challenge, but one I became good at, as the nursing home patients begin to request me as their “nurse” when schedules were made.

Too late now. The US/NATO should have imposed a no fly zone over the pre invasion borders of Ukraine BEFORE the invasion. The Russian would have had to call off the invasion because either they would have no air support OR they would have to to on offense against the no fly zone defenders.
NOW the only way US troops should get involved is after Ukraine is admitted to NATO.

Because essentially you are guaranteeing a confrontation and conducting an offensive operation considering the Russians are already over Ukraine.
A no fly BEFORE the Russians started bombing Ukraine would have reversed that scenario, it would be the Russians who would have had to go on the attack.

Neither the US, nor any other NATO member will commit troops to the Ukraine. Doing so would start WWIII much like Sarajevo in WW1. That will not happen. They will continue to support the resistance to the war started by Putin by pledging weapons, support and when needed capital to…purchase more weapons to fend off the unjustified invasion.

bitter. It’s not that simple. It may seem so, but it’s not.
to begin with, if Ukraine had been admitted to NATO the day Russia invaded then NATO would have been committed to sending in ground troops immediately, as that’s part of the pact. That would have had cataclysmic geopolitical consequences.

And Putin (or the military in a coup) would have backed off if Ukraine was a NATO member.

Youre making it out to be simpler than it is, or was, but I actually don’t want to get into the whole Ukraine argument. I support sending aid to them, military equipment to them, and ensuring we do all we can to help them repel the unjustified Russian invasion. It is a pretty simple decision, and there is no alternative.
LikeLike
The point is there was not enough of a deterrent in place. That is why I don’t think Putin would have ever invaded with Trump as President because there were too many unknowns as to how he would respond (after all, he did tell Putin he would nuke Moscow if that happened, not likely but it is the language Putin understands). I think during the several months the Russians started massing troops at the border Trump would have been much more aggressive to prevent it than Biden was. And THAT is when the no fly over the pre-invasion borders should have been implemented as a defensive operation.
Now I agree with Vic, we need to provide all the need Ukraine need to repel the invasion. As he says, “that is a simple decision and there is no alternative”. Well, there is the alternative the Putin Lapdogs propose, unconditional surrender.

It seems that there’s agreement that there’s no circumstance in which American troops should participate in Ukraine. Except perhaps for Bitter, who wants Ukraine in NATO (which would obligate US participation).
If the war in Ukraine is, from the US point-of-view, limited to financial participation, what are it’s limits? I assume Jason and Bitter would have no limits in time or money. How about others (we know Tina and Jan’s stance)?
