Gavin Newsom’s own gerrymander may have just backfired spectacularly. California’s 6th Congressional district — that was recently “redrawn” by Newsom to help Democrats — now has an independent and a Republican in the top two spots to advance in the primary. CNN: “California’s 6th Congressional district right now, this is one of the districts that was redrawn because Democrats thought it would be a good pickup opportunity.” “Kevin Kiley is the incumbent. He’s an independent now, but he was a Republican, and he’s definitely not a Democrat.” “And the first two people in this race right now, and the top two advance, are the independent and the Republicans, NOT the Democrat.” “Still, only 50% counted right now. But how nervous are Democrats here that they might be boxed out of this district they DREW as a pickup?” This might go down as one of Newsom’s most brutal self-inflicted owns of all time

  4. Tina, I don’t know who clueless person Overton is, but the reality is the CA gerrymander worked perfectly for Newsom. The GOP stands to get clobbered in the general election in CA. And in district 6, there is not even 50% of the vote counted. The dem will easily overtake the Republican who is currently in second place.

  6. Correct, but in order to win the general election he needs the Republican to finish second. The late ballots overwhelmingly favor Dems, and over half the vote is still out. The Republican in second place currently leads by 1100 votes. That gap will quickly close.

The beauty of the CA system for the Dems is that on election night they know exactly how many votes still needed to win and several weeks to get them.

  19. Okay, I ran the numbers on CA-06. The Republican in 2nd place who would shut out the Dems from the general election in a seat currently rated as Likely D, currently has a lead of 1,100 votes. Just over half of the votes remain to be counted. So far the vote count by party has been GOP 49, Dem 51. The remaining ballots figure to be much more Democrat. If what is left is GOP 47, Dem 53, the Republican in second would hang on by just 200 votes. But any worse than 47/53 and the Dem makes it to the general election. Not too promising given the history of late ballots in CA.

  43. The New York Post reported:

A woke new bill erases the terms “mother” and “father” from state child custody and parental laws — a gender-neutral rewriting that’s expected to spark a flood of similarly clunky legislation.

“Mother” would be replaced with “gestating parent,” while “father” becomes “non-gestating parent” or “parent” in family court, passed this week by state Democrats.

There are 322k votes still outstanding in LA, but not all of them are available to Pratt and the other Marxist.

In fact, these two candidates are getting about 52% of the vote.

So there are about 170k votes that will go either of them.

Considering Spratt is currently 40k votes ahead of the Marxist, the remaining vote would have to break like 105k to 65k for her.

Unlikely but it is CA so you never know.

As for the CA elections, the slowness in counting is getting more attention than usual. Also, a court case before SCOTUS, if it goes in the plaintiff’s favor, will curb the “forever counting syndrome” by saying ballots have to be turned in on Election Day to be counted.

The scene at the warehouse appeared at odds with the mounting pressure to process hundreds of thousands of remaining ballots. County officials announced Wednesday night that just 77,521 additional ballots had been processed since June 2 election night, but an estimated 713,180 ballots are still outstanding.
