A former NFL player who owned a marketing company and was the beneficial owner of eight durable medical equipment companies was sentenced yesterday to 16 years in prison for his role in a yearslong scheme to bilk Medicare and the Civilian Health and Medical Program of the Department of Veterans Affairs out of nearly $200 million by selling patient information and sham doctors’ orders for orthotic braces that patients did not want or need.

In addition to the prison sentence, the defendant, Joel Rufus French, 47, of Armory, Mississippi, was ordered to pay $110,753,619 in restitution and to forfeit approximately $17 million that the government seized from bank accounts and other assets.

“Fueled by lies, bribes, and overseas telemarketers, this corrupt scheme preyed on senior citizens and disabled veterans to flood the country with unnecessary medical devices — and then billed the taxpayer for it,” said Assistant Attorney General Colin M. McDonald of the Justice Department’s National Fraud Enforcement Division.”

Although signed by 2 NFL teams, he never played an NFL game.

I guess he was a much better fraudster than player.

  2. The reply from the Iranians was worse that I thought.

    Iranian control of the strait

No shut down of the nuclear program

Lifting of the blockade before they even talk about their nuclear material.

Withdrawal of American military from the middle east

    blah blah blah

Basically, spit in Trump’s face and dared him to do anything about it.

Well, maybe now we don’t have to hear any longer from Trump about how badly the Iranians want to make a deal. That was always crap. Trump knew it when eh spewed it and so did everyone else.

  5. Apparently Senators Kaine and Warner in Virginia both warned the FBI-investigated Louise Lucas she was biting off more than they should try to chew, but she didn’t listen:

    https://x.com/SenLouiseLucas/status/2012285930229334235

“I have the utmost respect for Senator Kaine and Senator Warner but we do not need “coaching” on redistricting coming from a cuck chair in the corner. How about you all stay focused on the fascist in the White House and let us handle redistricting in Virginia. 10-1”

Had they been less aggressive, say 8-3, and then written the ballot question honestly, it probably would have passed by a greater margin, and the judges wouldn’t have overruled it.

In baseball terms, they tried to stretch a double into a triple, and got thrown out half way to third.

And despite the first base coach Kaine hollering its a double, and third base coach Warner putting up the stop sign, Lucas charged toward third, was thrown out half way there….and NOW she demands they change the rules to baseball that all the umpires be replaced with ones who will give her team whatever they want, and always rule against the other team. And she demands that they redo the play starting with her line drive into the left field corner.

  8. Perfect. The Dem senate majority leader in Virginia has said it not going to happen (firing all the judges by age restriction), meaning the idea is dead in the water, and yet because it leaked out, Republicans can benefit from the negative publicity of the scheme.

  9. Furthermore Virginia elections has announced that any changes after May 12, which is tomorrow, would jeopardize the ability to prepare for the primary elections. This means Democrats are running out of ideas as fast as they are running out of time, and are in desperation mode.

PSA: Now that the Virginia plan has failed, keep in mind the last time Democrats were equipped with so few options they leveraged their access to the FBI and CIA to manufacture a false Russian conspiracy to try to unseat a President. So buckle up…

Obama is smoking some good sh-t if he thinks the people now running the Dem party care about what he says or thinks.

He has about as much influence as GWB has in the current GOP.

We saw that with his pathetic “bros need to vote for Kamala”….

The GOP needs to run an ad in VA directed at seniors that illustrates how the Dems were considering barring anyone over 54 from being a SCOVA judge.

    Completely absurd.

The UK is passing a law that if you were born after 2008 you cannot buy cigarettes. It will be a crime to resell cigarettes to them. So eventually if you are 50 years old and buy cigarettes for a 40 year old you are a criminal.

It’s not going to work, its going to create a huge black market for cigarettes.

”He also said forcing the retirement of Supreme Court justices would be extreme, and he wants to work within the existing legal system when fighting against Republicans.

”Working within the existing legal system” is something few progressive Dems like to do.

  20. AOC is pushing for a national $25 minimum wage, which of course would close nearly every diner, coffeeshop, fast food place, and the like across all of the flyover country, and turn the entire nation into the cesspool that is California.

As Rush Limbaugh used to say, if raising the minimum wage is this miracle worker for the economy, just go all the way to $100 an hour!

Raskin claims SCOVA is “right wing”

Today, in an outrageous outburst of right-wing judicial activism following the Roberts Court’s Callais decision, the Virginia Supreme Court has struck down the will of the voters. But democracy won’t end with right-wingers in black robes. Now is the time to campaign like never before for strong democracy, freedom and progress.”

  24. Phil, that map is a crime; should be R +2. The boundaries between the sixth and seventh district are needlessly contorted, and there is no good reason for the fourth to have an arm that separates the fifth and third district while running all the way to the Georgia border when the fourth and the fifth themselves could’ve easily split the northern portion of the state. It’s clear that parochial interest at home or guiding this map, not the needs of the national party.

Indy’s no longer allowed to vote in R primary.

    My predictions:

—I predict a low turnout. May not be 33% statewide. Probably under 20% turnout here.

–U.S. sen. Capito will get about 52% MUCH lower than any previous races. I think this is her last time running.

–The big spending battle between Gov Morrisey to defeat incumbent Rs will see mixed results. Which will lead to more battles between him and legislators. Some number of incumbents will lose. Which will lead. to a few more Ds winning in Nov.

—I predict the local school bond will fail.

“Karen McDonald, Oakland County’s prosecutor who wanted to be the Democratic nominee for attorney general, says her team has uncovered “widespread irregularities affecting at least hundreds of voters” at the party’s April 19 convention.

McDonald lost the attorney general race at the gathering to Washtenaw County Prosecutor Eli Savit. But in recent days, she says, she’s found party members whose votes were recorded incorrectly and people who voted but their votes weren’t recorded at all. Meanwhile, McDonald contends more than 200 votes were cast from individuals who weren’t in Detroit, despite the fact that voters were supposed to be in person at the convention in Detroit to participate.”

Actually, she was a better candidate and harder to beat than the radical leftist who screwed her over, so there is that.
