That is why abortion ads don’t work except in the Wisconsin Supreme Court election yesterday.

    Fixed it.”

Zzzzzz,,,, Bitter thinks every election Dems win is because of abortion or Trump.

The fact is abortion is a huge net loser for Dems, they spent hundreds of millions on it and still lost.

Bob Casey ran thousands of ads on abortion and it didn’t help him. So did Kamala and every Dem congressional candidate (Dems lost 2 seats).

People who feel strongly about abortion to make it a deciding factor, one way or another, vote Dem or R, but nobody CHANGES their vote because of abortion ads.

The overwhelming number of people don’t vote just because of abortion.

My wife is moderately pro-choice and works in a diverse corporate culture, she says she doesn’t know ONE woman who ever told her she voted with abortion as the only issue. Not one. She says the people advising Dems to run on abortion are probably men.

Interesting article at ABC News no less on why abortion was a bust.

Only 10% of voters viewed it as the top issue, and of course not all of them were pro choice. And even then the article thinks that increase was pretty much among Democrats.

‘ the number of registered voters choosing abortion as their top priority over the course of the campaign, from around 5 percent in the summer of 2023 to around 10 percent before the election.

But 10 percent is still relatively low compared with other major issues in the election. The percentage of respondents choosing an issue related to the economy*** in the same surveys averaged 39 percent in polls conducted in October 2024, much higher than the percentage saying abortion was their top issue, which averaged 9 percent in October.

And the increase in Americans prioritizing abortion may be an artifact of a well-known quirk of political polling: partisans forming their political opinions based on what trusted elites are saying. In other words, the Harris campaign’s focus on abortion may have made Democratic voters more likely to say abortion was an important issue to them. Indeed, if we break down the YouGov/The Economist polling numbers by party, we see that abortion’s increasing prioritization as an issue in 2024 was driven almost entirely by self-identified Democrats.

In other words, people who vote solely on abortion are pretty much already voting Democratic.

That is why it doesn’t really move the needle.

Saying Dems are winning elections because they support abortion is like saying Rs are winning elections because they oppose abortion.

    Neither is true.

Then why did the successful Wisconsin Justice-elect make it her main issue? I did not say people change their minds. I said it makes Democrats come out to the polls in off year elections.

Hey Bitter, you should try to get licensed in CA. Big bucks if you do

“Illegal immigrants in California could soon have their lawyers paid for by taxpayers if a new bill proposed by Sacramento politicians goes through.

Starting next year, California would begin to fund legal representation for all unauthorized adults to fight their deportations under new legislation set to clear its first hurdle on Tuesday.

“Legal representation saves lives, protects civil liberties and keeps families together,” said bill author Assemblymember Mia Bonta (D). “This is a due process issue in California. People can lose their freedom, their family, their job and home through immigration proceedings.”

And I say all evidence refutes that theory.

If Kamala and Casey had won you would have said it was because of abortion but that. would have been wrong too.

I could say Trump and McCormick won because they oppose abortion, but that is wrong too.

There is very little evidence that abortion wins or loses elections because while the “elites” think it is very important, very few people vote or turn out based on that issue, and virtually none are swing voters.

Most die hard abortion supporters are liberal white women who are going to vote Dem anyway.

  25. Bitter, Iran has been a source of terrorism in the ME and around the world. It is a country who would also know no bounds if it ever secured a nuclear bomb, which would be an immediate threat to NATO countries. Neutering Iran’s ability to live up to it’s rhetoric of “death to America,” and every other heathen nation, is something NATO should have at least involved itself in allowing the US use of their airfields/airspace. Furthermore, aiding the U.S. in maintaining open and free travel thru international waters concerns NATO’s interest almost more than America’s interest. Consequently, your example of Spain and Bermuda is an apples to oranges one.

Hilarious, because people like me are exactly why Bitter is wrong to think abortion is some kind of deciding factor in elections.

I am, as GF put it, moderately pro-choice, but I consistently vote for people who are radical pro-lifers.

NATO is just about as important to the US as it is to Europe.

If Trump tries to pull out of NATO, which I doubt, a lot of Rs will balk, and it would never pass in Congress.

And unfortunately for the isolationist kooks, withdrawal from NATO DOES need congressional approval.

  34. During today’s press briefing it was said that NATO “failed” meeting its obligation to the US, who has provided so much defense in maintaining the sovereignty of NATO countries. Not only does the US heavily participate in defending NATO countries, we also have the lion’s share in funding it. Not supporting the US, in some of the most minor ways, does bring up what does NATO contribute to the US of any benefit? Maybe NATO’s Secretary can explain the non-actions of other members in this alliance during his visit today with POTUS.

  37. I should clarify, in a normal to high turnout election, I DON’T think abortion is the deciding factor unless it is unusually close and the Republican loses by a handful of voted when taking a vociferous pro-life position. What I DO think is that, particularly in these juducial races where the state courts are effectively the arbiters or abortion access post-Roe, in low turnout specials, the rabidly pro-aborts (who are all TDS morons) will swamp any turnout from low propensity Rs who just don’t care as much as they claim to (see SD and MS voting down personhood amendments, and by rather large margins at that).
