Good Friday for those who Observe it

Average Friday for those who don’t. For those who might be interested, there are two options for the year of Christ’s crucifixion, either A.D. 30 or A.D. 33. Most experts lean toward A.D. 33. Interestingly, this year falls on the same calendar as A.D. 33, which means the crucifixion was Friday, April 3, 33.

Under Trump, we cannot have as much as a sign blow over without it being Trump’s fault for inaction on climate change or some other stupidity.

  3. Whenever I hear the Passion read on Holy Thursday or Good Friday, I am always struck with the thought, “What if this never happened? Stop!” But I know without the crucifixion there is no resurrection. As a lawyer, I just keep making objections throughout the trial.

It also sets up an intriguing What If? Rome fell after it became Christian but it was not the fault of Christianity. It fell because it overextended and pissed off too many barbarians. It was also corrupt. Still, without the Church, what would be left to preserve history and keep some focus to provide stability in the Dark Ages and Middle Ages? No Church means no Reformation means no Enlightenment means no American or French Revolutions. Discuss.

  4. The year 1453 was perhaps the most consequential, with the fall of Constantinople. The universities in Europe were all about studying Latin. But ahead of the fall of Constantinople, the Greek scholars there fled west, and took with them their treasures of ancient Greek manuscripts, which led to an immediate interest in the universities to study them, which in turn launched the Renaissance and the Reformation.

And the Reformation led to the Puritans, which led to them being persecuted, which led to them coming to the new world to start fresh. That explains the New England colonies. The Virginia colony was just to make money.

I have a female ancestor whose first marriage ended with a freak accident of her husband. She remarried and I descended directly from their union.

Most of you were going to die invading Japan.” My dad still spent more than a year in Germany as part of the occupation force but I am here because of those bombs.

Trump’s cuts to transportation infrastructure were key to the steering failure of the container ship that hit the bridge.

The ship was from Singapore? Well, if he hadn’t cut USAID there would have been more money in foreign countries to inspect engines on ships.

Hopefully the right guess will be 0. But it all depends on how many sleeper cells Biden let in, and how many of them want to die on Sunday trying to take out as many as they can with them.

Healthcare technology. I wear a glucose monitor and insulin pod. When I was diagnosed with diabetes in 1983, I had to stab my finger, place blood on a strip, insert into a machine and wait 30 seconds for a somewhat accurate reading. I also had to do urine tests several times a day where I would drop a pill into a test tube. If the urine turned blue, it was ok. Red meant ketones which could lead to acidosis.

When I had my infection last June, I had an IV to wear at home. Before that, I would have had to be in the hospital for weeks.

Better testing and treatments for cancer. Dental implants instead of crowns or dentures.

That’s not a better system, that is a technological advance.ment Just because you have faster cars or bigger planes doesn’t mean the “system” is better.

I think Walt is correct in that he means ” better” in the sense were people satisfied with it with the technology of the time.

Today you go to the supermarket and buy 30 different types of milk. Is it a better “system” than having fresh whole milk delivered to your door? Not so sure.

Was the “security system” at airports better when you could just walk out from the parking lot onto the tarmac with anything you wanted in your handbag or briefcase and walk up the steps, or is it better now with x-ray machines and pat downs and all kinds of other restrictions.

Was going to the movies better when you had a huge theater with one move with gigantic screen or is better now where you have a bunch of little rooms 5 times the size of your living room each with a movie.

  69. Had an “interesting” experience. This happened once before about a week ago. Wife and I home watching tv and working on devices. I was sitting there and go to say something to her and a little–not a lot–of saliva gets sucked down my windpipe. I cannot breath, stand up while my weak attempts to get air in my lungs sounds ghastly, a high pitched death like sound.

it lasted maybe a minute. Kept gesturing for my wife to pound my back and she finally does and I gradually regain normality.

    *******

Tonight, I go out on deck after supper and cleanup to have my coffee and smoke a cigar and enjoy the last of the evening fading light. It happened again. I did not inhale coffee, nor did cigar smoke go down the wrong way. Had not been drinking or puffing for a minute or more.

Go to say something to wife and a LITTLE, not a lot, of saliva goes down my windpipe. Wife and son very concerned as it lasted probably 3 minutes with me with hands in air to expand lungs and making those wailful sounds as I struggle to get a small amount if air into my lungs. Impossible for me to actually talk to tell what happened or what I would like them to do. Wife very close to calling 911. Son’s pounding me with force on my back ends this gasping. It was pretty scary for me.

Back in early NOVEMBER, my yoing female Indian doctor prescribed a powder inhaler device she thought MIGHT help my raspy throat/voice. It did not help with that after 6 weeks of use. She also prescribed me an emergency inhaler. I never opened the emergency inhaler. Wife says I need to go any use that inhaler. Some difficulty it getting it operative, etc.

No big piece of food or anything got expelled from my lungs/throat. Was a SMALL amount of clear liquid stuff thicker than water that came up.

I have had a lot of gas belching up for a half hour or more after my “episode”.

(Months ago my throat doc says I have a thick coating of something liquid on my vocal chords, but says it is just the way it is, did not recommend surgery or any further steps.)

Took two hits off that inhaler and man what a noticeable positive difference in my lung area and breathing .

Albuterol. Good stuff. I am gonna have that with me wherever I go.

Will hit that inhaler again before I go to be to ight.

DHS says local law enforcement in Suffolk County contacted ICE NYC and asked them to arrest Carlos Aguilar Reynoso to keep him out of the community while they built their case. ICE did arrest him, and transferred him back to local law enforcement once the DA charged him for the child rape. He is now facing a litany of charges and is in custody. In a statement, ICE says this is why cooperation between local and federal law enforcement is crucial, and why sanctuary policies that prohibit that cooperation endanger the public.
