Trucking just completed one of the strongest quarters on record, with no signs of it slowing. ISM, the manufacturing sentiment index, came in very strong, measuring the highest reading since 2022. Retail sales for February were also very bullish. The goods economy is doing exceptionally well right now and all indications are that truckers should have a fantastic 2Q. I think DB Cooper drowned in the Columbia River and that is why they found some of the money in the sand on its shore. His body was not found because its a big river and either it got stuck underwater or eventually went out to sea.

In the world of sports, nothing is more satisfying than a Duke loss, a choke job is even better.
So after looking at the replay, it looks like the Duke players did what they needed to do. The last guy at half court just panicked. Anyone saying they should have just held the ball are dead wrong. If any Duke player just holds the ball, he gets tied up and the possession arrow goes to UCONN so its basically a turnover. With 10 seconds left, Duke needed to get the ball into the front court. UCONN was in desperation mode, they left two Duke guys wide open hoping for a low percentage play like a steal or deflection, and luckily for them, they got it.
The fatal mistake made by the last Duke player was that once he got the ball, he took one dribble and then picked up the dribble. Now he’s a dead duck and predictably got trapped. He couldn’t just hold the ball, he’d get tied up. He could have pivoted through the double team and gotten the ball to his teammates under the CONN basket, but he panicked jumped up to try to get the ball over the defenders but had no chance.
All that said, the Duke coach could have called timeout prior to all this to get his players prepared. It would have been the last time out though and coaches don’t like to use their last timeout unless they absolutely have to.

Nobody said that, or meant that.
He should have held ONTO the ball, meaning he could have dribbled back towards his own basket, the lane was clear, wasting another 5 seconds.
Or if he had wasted his dribble he could have just flung the ball high into the air, that would have wasted 5 seconds.
And EVEN if he had held the ball, they wouldn’t have “wrapped him up”, they would have fouled him.
The ONLY thing he could not have done was lob a low pass into the hands of the opposing player.

I just checked the replay, Duke inbounded the ball with exactly 10.0 seconds remaining. This meant they that did NOT have to get over the mid-court line. So yes Jason you are right that the last Duke guy could have dribbled back towards his own basket. HOWEVER, like I said, his fatal mistake was taking one dribble and then giving up the dribble. At that point it’s advantage defense, and you saw the results. He could not have simply cradled the ball and wait to be fouled, he would have been wrapped up resulting in a jump ball and possession to UCONN.
Every team has a play to break the press. Perhaps, Duke’s pre-designed play to have two players in the front court, effectively making it 3 vs 5 in the back court looks to be a mistake as that last player hand no one to pass to once he was trapped.
Regardless, nice choke by the Dukies for the second year in a row. Makes me smile.

Here is where we disagree.
He would have been fouled because that was what the defense was instructed to do. They would never have risked “wrapping him up”.
At least another 3 seconds would have gone by before the foul was called if he held on to the ball.
He is an 80% FT shooter, even if he missed one at most UCONN would have had to inbound the ball make a 3 with 3 seconds to go just to tie.

Huh? Do you watch basketball or are you a casual fan? If he cradles the ball, and the defense swarms him, the default call is a jump-ball. The defense can basically hug the guy from behind and it will still be called a jump-ball. The offensive player is no longer in control and will not be getting the benefit of any call.. And the defense is not instructed to foul in a situation where they have the advantage over a dead duck who has given up his dribble and is trapped. Now if the guy turns and dribbles trying to run out the clock, then yes UCONN is compelled to reach out and grab him to stop the clock.
Well executed full court press by UCONN. Almost broken by Duke, until the last guy’s mistake.

Yes, you have a good definition of what a jump ball is but the problem is that would NEVER have happened.
The instruction was to foul asap, which was the intention of the defense until the Duke player foolishly lobbed the ball.
Had he not passed the ball, he would have been fouled. Trying to “wrap him up” would never have been an option because it would have wasted too much valuable time and no guarantee.
Here is what AI says.
Yes, UConn was actively attempting to foul Duke to stop the clock and extend the game in the final seconds before Cayden Boozer‘s pass, according to player comments and video analysis.
UConn players were instructed to foul immediately to force free throws, but the pressure caused a chaotic turnover before the foul could be committed.”

Hope you don’t pay for your AI, because you just posted a blatant AI hallucination LOL.
If the UCONN players were attempting to foul, they would have just grabbed the first Duke player the instant the ball was inbounded to preserve as much time as possible. They were NOT instructed to foul which is obvious just by watching the video. Immediate fouling wouldn’t even be the proper basketball play. In that scenario, you go for the steal and if you don’t get it, then you foul. Duke executed your standard press-beating play, and UCONN executed a textbook press. UCONN’s execution was better than Duke’s execution. Now if the last guy was able to get away from the double team, then yes it is time to foul and put him on the line. But once he picked up his dribble, UCONN was in control. He was either going to throw it away, travel, or get tied up. He threw it away. The rest is sweet history.

We are just going to have to disagree on that.
Even the UCONN players said they were instructed to foul right away. They didn’t because they didn’t have the chance. The inbound pass was clear and so were the next passes. The first chance to foul would have been if Boozer held on to the ball.
Your theory about “when it was time to foul etc” is completely unrealistic given the time remaining of less than 10 second.
The instruction was to foul immediately. not a a bunch of mumbo jumbo what if this happens, that happens, etc.

The markets don’t like uncertainty. The sharp downturn in the futures, and spike in oil futures means that the speech left the markets feeling uncertain. I didn’t watch the speech, so I won’t comment there. The respective political “sides” can spin it any way they want to make themselves feel good.
The uncertainty means that volatility levels will remain elevated which is great. I’ll be selling plenty of options at the open.
