  3. Bitter mentioned baseball. I have a shocking announcement to make. I was in stunned disbelief when I learned that the Mets would not fire their failed manager. I was shocked they did not fire him in June so they could salvage their season last year. But after failing to make the playoffs with the roster they had it was simply inexcusable to not fire Mendoza.

Then they said they wanted to improve their roster, so they didn’t sign Alonso, thinking they will find a first basemen on waivers who will hit more homers than Alonso and post a higher batting average. Adding insult to injury, they dumped fan favorites Nimmo and closer Diaz, to ensure a weak outfield and no closer.

Enough! The only way I could respond to all this with the appropriate amount of disgust, is to make the following announcement:

I will be rooting for the Phillies in 2026.

In the past the Mets have dumped players like Dykstra and Wheeler to the Phillies, so now they are dumping their fans too.

  6. My Predictions for 2026:

1–3I/Atlas will do a remarkable 180 degree turn and head back toward earth to cause more mayhem as it shines a big spotlight in the sky that instead of the bat symbol, has a picture of the three stooges while broadcasting Elvis’s “Love Me Tender” continually. And STILL 85% of people will not believe that is a controlled craft and is merely a naturally occurring space stuff.

2–Whatever team that wins the world series may have a person on the team who is Japanese; AND that same World Series winning team will NOT have a single player on it who is a Somali.

3–The Dukes of Hazard TV show will be resurrected and shown again on TV and become a big hit.

4–Scentists will finally admit that there is not now, nor ever was there, anything called the “Ozone Layer.”

    5. Demoncrats will again take control of the House of Representatives and pass a bill that will allow everyone to commit one bank robbery and bet a mulligan for that. It will die in the Senate, as time runs out.

    6.  Joe Biden will think he is still president and set up a stand (lemonade-like stand) outside his Delaware home to grant pardons for 25 cents each. But he will only work it on 4 weekdays between the hours of 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.

    7. The N and S poles will continue to shift. Congressional Democrats will announce a massive spending bill to append money to prevent that from happening, and the result will be  the creation of 100,000 new Somali millionaires.

    8. In a serious breach of U.S. security, Venezuelan nrco terrorists will blow up Trump’s yacht.

    9. Ireland, England and other countries will offer the U.S. millions of dollars to take back Rosie O’Donnell and other Americans who renounced their U.S. citizenship and moved to those countries.

10.AOL News will shock the world and have TWO actual, LEGITIMATE NEWS stories up on the same day.

  15. TOP 11 EVENTS OF GOVT FAILURES AND DISAPPOINTMENTS IN MY LIFETIME

(well, at least over the past 65 years…)

(NOT in order of importance. But kind of chronological)

–JFK cancelling the other air strikes against Castro’s Cuba which left the Bay of Pigs invasion doomed.

–The way the political people in charge mis-handled the waging of the Vietnam War which unnecessarily prolonged it, led to more U.S. costs in blood and treasure

–Nixon adm. very unnecessary Watergate break in and coverup that led to Nixon’s resignation

–Failure of senators to convict Bill Clinton on impeachable charges.

–Failures of federal govt that led to the planes being hijacked and hitting the buildings on 9/11

–Decision of GWBush administration to “nation build“ and”create democracy” in Afghanistan and to some extent Iraq. He/they did not  and ignored the culture of Afghanistan and Iraq where no concept of democracy existed, and that cost us lots of U.S. blood and treasure

–Failure of govt to properly oversee and regulate banks, savings and loans, etc. that led to the financial collapse in the fall of 2008 (and election of Obama)

–Creation of Obamacare by a corrupt handful of U.S. senators who were bought off to vote for it, and for SCOTUS who said this bullcrap requiring everyone to buy health insurance was constitutional

    – Failure of fed. govt and news media to properly and immediately investigate election irregularities in the 2020 election.  And I will throw into the blame the insane political decision by many states to mail out ballots to everybody in their state thereby forever corrupting the election process

–Biden admin chaotic withdrawal from Afghanistan, the results of which we are STILL paying for and will for years

–fed govt handling/botching of the COVID epidemic which continues to pay us bad dividends

  16. Biggest disappointments of Congress over the last 65 years

–House voting to impeach Trump for this and that

    –Senate vote to pass Obamacare

–Senate NOT refusing to seat Al Franken due to fraud and corruption in MN in that election

–Nancy Pelosi’s sham j6 committee and their” investigation and findings”

–Rules of House and Senate that throw monkey wrench into things and prevent Congress from getting anything worthwhile done thereby creating a vacuum that creates an ever more powerful president

-creation of campaign finance laws that do not do what they intend

–failure to give good balanced coverage on Leftist riots

–fairly visible and obvious left tilt of the MSM on just about everything

  18. THOUGHTS…

Whether the U.S. continues to survive depends of who ‘we the people” elect.

The keys to getting elected are money, getting your message out, integrity of the ballot/election process.

Currently, ALL THREE of these are corrupted and out of whack.

    ********************

–WAY too much FRAUDULENT money gets funnelled into election campaigns. Soros-types spending money surreptitiously not just in funding street riots and protests but in funding actual campaigns of screwball individuals

–Today’s MSM so lopsided in their reporting and putting their thumb, forearm and butt on the scale this is a huge problem.

–The election process has BIG flaws which we all know–mail in ballots, ballot harvesting, drop boxes, blind eye over site of state election procedures in lots of states

–And with the D party and R party hell bent on destroying themselves, this will give rise to more third party candidates, and eventual election of more and more of them, and will lead to balkanization of U.S.

  19. MORE THOUGHTS…national screne

–In recent times, Congress has proven itself to be fairly incompetent, fails to get things done, beset by deep divisions between ,and within, each of the two political parties. Congress is becoming less and less relevant is determining the direction of the nation. Their BEST quality and output these days is holding hearings (which is big for creating nice sound bites to put on the news).

Congress is not even able to agree on eliminating fraud in govt spending–because one party benefits politically FROM the fraud and blocks all efforts to eliminate it.

Over the years, Congress has been abdicating their constitutional powers to the courts and the president. When the courts rule in ways the Congress did not intent in their legislation or if the president moves in a way contrary to the legislation, Congress seems unwilling to stop those things and let their congressional powers slip away and erode to the courts and.or the presidency.

From here on out, SADLY, we are in for big changes through Ex. Orders every time a new president is elected–and ESPECIALLY when the presidency goes from R to D or D to R. BIG CHANGES.

    *****************************

When the White House and Congress are both controlled by the D party, you can expect that there will be a flurry of actions that will be taken that will done to entrench their power.

When the White House and Congress are4 both controlled by the R party, you do not usually see those kind of things happening.

  20. MORE THOUGHTS on STATE government….

When I was first elected to State legislature in 2003, I was astounded at the black hole of state spending that went to “social services” including Medicaid. It involves a BIG % of every State govt’s total spending. I decided that was the one area of govt I would NOT dig into. It is such a can of worms…

I think Most states have the same type of thing, with social services being one of the biggest, if not THE biggest area of spending.

I decided I would focus on Workers comp, Education, Retirement systems, government operations, legal system, etc. Many good reforms were made in those areas and I helped to get them put in law and get them enacted.

In the social services area there are lots of rules and regulations and bureaucracy that gets created regarding these things–housing, health care, child care/day care. But I think in every state there are big flaws in govt oversight that permits / encourages fraud to grow like mushrooms.

    **************************************

What you are seeing about fraud in govt spending in MN will soon be seen again in Maine, Ohio, Washington state, Illinois, Massachusetts and some other states. Any state with a big Somali population will likely show a very similar pattern of paying huge sums of money being spent fraudulently–housing, day care, health care, COVID related funds, etc.

  25. Sasha Stone’s predictions:

    ”Okay, so for 2026

What are my top ten predictions? Here goes:

A counter culture boom will take root in Austin and other places and start building back everything we’ve lost, like making movies people actually want to see, and the industry will begin anew. The trend will be mending, not dividing.

The governors puffing up like peacocks try to “out-tough” one another up against Trump’s efforts with ICE. They overplay their hand, leading to chaos and unrest on the streets, with something that looks like the Summer of 2020. Trump ends up having to send in the National Guard anyway. This will happen in several states. We will come close to a hot Civil War.

Because the midterms are coming up, there will be mass protests like the No Kings movement, and they will be relentless. A sea of angry Resistance Libs with purple hair and noserings will gain more and more attention from the legacy media to help push them toward victory.

The Democrats will take the House and either take the Senate or improve their standing now. Perhaps there will be resignations or switches in party affiliation. And yes, they will immediately impeach Trump a third time and use his remaining term to persecute all of his administration’s actions.

The “America Only” crowd, like Marjorie Taylor Greene, will help the Democrats win the midterms by dividing the Right and suppressing the vote so that they then rise to take control of the base (which won’t happen). The Lincoln Project types will amplify the fracture.

There will be at least one high-profile assassination or assassination attempt.

We will see our first major terrorist incident using AI. It will wipe out the grid or mess with the water supply or, in some other way, shock Americans awake to this new, powerful weapon other countries have at their fingertips, and AI warfare becomes the new arms race.

Taylor Swift will indeed marry Travis Kelce in a lavish wedding, and her pregnancy will spark a baby boom.

2026 will be the year Hollywood gives up on movie theaters, and they begin to close throughout the country, leaving only event movies and niche audiences to play in big cities.

A leader will rise who can appeal to both sides of moderate Americans, like a Ross Perot type who has a bigger plan for America and transcends partisan politics. That leader will become a major challenger for 2028.”

I may or may not add my own. However, I found her’s thought-provoking.

Now’s a good time to remind everyone that in 2025, Thomas Massie voted against immigration enforcement and against eligibility verification for welfare recipients.

Tina to declare this was the most brilliant move by Trump since he backed down on pasta tariffs.

Trump’s sanctioning of Venezuelan oil and seizing or blockading the tanker ghost fleet is having stupendous repercussions: 1. Severe weakening of the Maduro cartel regime. 2. Severe weakening of the Cuban Communist regime. 3. Choking off Iranian Revolutionary Guard, which took Venezuelan oil to sell for cash. 4. Leaving Chinese Communist Party without reliable oil from Venezuela and Iran.

    52. There are numerous instances of pyrotechnics causing deadly fires in nightclubs. The Station fire in RI in 2003 killed 100 people when the band foolishly lit fireworks inside the venue.

Pyrotechnics in closed environments should only be allowed if conducted by professionals and with safety measures in place before initiated.

The basement of this club had no emergency exits, only one staircase leading to the first floor and exit.

A tragedy waiting for a time to happen.

      Sad.

My all time favorite strip was when the point-haired boss announced over the intercom that due to the forecast of inclement weather, all non-essential employees could leave early.

Then in the next box you see the boss looking with binoculars down at employees walking across the parking lot with the thought-bubble saying, “this will be the easiest round of layoffs ever.”

      Cancer is bi-partisan.

I have been informed by the missus that the decorations all have to come down and be stored away. While she was out and about, this morning and early afternoon I took down all the lights, decorations and other paraphernalia off the tree and boxed everything up.

I did take a few smoke breaks.

    63. Happy New Year all!

I just had an interesting conversation with my son that reminded me of the last couple of years on Hedgehog Report (Phoenix edition). He cited a comment often attributed to Mark Twain that it is hard enough to win an argument with an intelligent person, but nearly impossible to win one with a fool.

In addition to the explanation that you are often dragged down to the fool’s level (where the fool has much more expreience), we discussed the fact that fools will almost never concede an argument. They often don’t remember what they have said in the past; will deny making comments that they are on record as having said; and/or replace failed attacks on one subject with attacks on a different subject.

At one point, my son said “trying to hold these people to the positions they advocate is like wrestling with a greased pig”. [As you know, you should never wrestle with a greased pig – both of you get dirty but the pig enjoys it.]

Since I once again started reading and contributing to the new HHR, I find myself enjoying the occasional bursts of brilliance from most of you, and do my best to avoid tangling with the fools. Here’s to to another year with you folks at HHR!
