If straw polls meant anything Ron Paul would have been President.
That being said, Vance IS the odds on favorite for the nomination.
IF Trump is polling terribly at the time of the R primaries for 2028, someone else might jump in, but if he is over 40% I doubt anyone will run against Vance.
Maybe Rand Paul, but he would be crushed.

Dr. appt today. followup from 6 weeks ago when I had my annual checkup. The wife said “be sure to tell your doctor about your coughing”…which I knew would lead to more doctor proding.
Dr. Bagree (female doc from India I think) then prescribed some not drops and an inhaler to improve the coughing, I really do not cough a lot, but you know how wives are…
Anyway, go back today. Doc asks how I am. I say I am blessed and God has been good to me. I am in far better shape than I deserve to be (in my young days after college and before I got married I did not take care of myself as I should have and drank way too much.) I am now heading toward 79 years old, never been in the hospital for anything except when I had my tonsils out at age 5 or 6. Financially secure and never have had any money worries, married to a wonderful wife, have had two successful careers in teaching and in elective office–plus two brief but successful stints in the private sector, seen all 50 states visited 17 different other countries (many more than once) and have written a book.
After seeing all the data today indicating that my temp., BP, lungs, heart, etc. are all just fine, Doc says are you better than when I saw you last? I said well, I guess the same or maybe a little better.
Doc says if you are just the same, then I will have to order more tests…
So I say, well in that case I am feeling better than I did when I last saw you 6 weeks ago.
She DOES still want me to go back and see the throat doc about my “hoarse throat” to see if there have been any changes since 2023. (Back then, he determined that my vocal cords were not as tight as they should be.) I think that doc will say I am no worse than I was in 2023 in that regard. The docs both want me to quit smoking, but it is one of my few pleasures…
