President Volodymyr Zelensky’s government systematically dismantled independent oversight mechanisms in key state-owned enterprises, undermining anti-corruption safeguards even as billions of dollars in Western aid flowed into Ukraine, NYTreported on December 5.

The investigation, based on interviews with about 20 Ukrainian and Western officials and reviewed documents, found that Kyiv stacked supervisory boards with loyalists, left seats vacant, or delayed their formation altogether. These boards—mandated by international donors to monitor procurement, executive appointments and spending—were often rendered powerless through political interference and revised company charters.”

  8. Bitter, you are so out of touch with understanding and acknowledging the real problems the Ukrainian people have to shoulder. All you do is repeat inflammatory accusations about Putin’s invasion, with no recognition of the cruel conscription methods by Zelenskyy, how Ukraine has lost so many freedoms and a generation of young men, how corrupt officials have siphoned off aid meant for the people and enriched themselves instead. With years of reading the same rhetoric from you, never updated, you basically have nothing informative or new to offer.

President Putin’s government systematically HAS NO (and laughs at the thought of) independent oversight mechanisms in key state-owned enterprises, undermining anti-corruption safeguards even as Russian forces flowed into Ukraine.

The investigation, based on the war deaths and casualties of hundreds of thousands of Ukrainians, found that Moscow has NO supervisory boards and has only PUTIN loyalists. These boards that do not exist cannot monitor Russian procurement, executive appointments and spending.”

  13. DW, what I posted was an excerpt from a recent NYT report, with a link to it. Bitter followed up by his repetitive line of “rape, murder, maiming.” I responded by saying much more has gone on in Ukraine – loss of freedoms, death of young fighters, conscription terror, and looting of aid by Ukrainian officials. Neither you or Bitter seem to be bothered by the above atrocities committed by the Zelenskyy government, apart from the atrocious done by Putin. Why is that? Instead you spend time mocking up a fake story to make your point of I guess agreeing with Bitter. I kind of feel you dirtied up your own thread,DW, by your follow up post.

  14. Jan, you cannot see the forest for the trees. Zelenskyy’s administration has corruption in it. Nobody disputes that. France was corrupt. Belgium was corrupt. These facts caused did not mean it was good for the world that Hitler’s forces overran and captured the two countries early in WWII.

We get it that nobody is squeaky clean in eastern Europe. But looking at the big picture, the west would be better off with Ukraine surviving versus the USSR rebuilding.

    Like

  15. DW, I am looking at the forest. I don’t challenge or dispute accusations of Putin’s behavior, or that he invaded Ukraine. However, what stories are allowed to be written about Ukraine demonstrate that many human rights violations are happening under Zelenskky, amplified by the enormous corruption and confiscation of funding and armaments meant to help the people retain their sovereignty. Consequently, the “forest” of problems inflicted on Ukrainians are derived from both Putin’s threatening invasion and Zelenskky’s harsh governance, taking away a free press, putting people opposing his policies in prison, banning religious freedom, and all the rest discussed here.

With the increasing evidence of how this aid has gone into the pockets of oligarchs- a reported third because of little to no auditing done by the U.S. – there is enough reason for this country to voice their concerns and objections. Even in the 2026 National Defensive Authorization Act (NDAA) $400 million has been authorized (not appropriated) to support Ukraine. No other country has been mentioned for such support.

“Multiple national news outlets published reports on Monday citing whistle-blower allegations about fraud and corruption by the Maine-based Gateway Community Services first reported by The Maine Wire.

NewsNation and The Hill ran reports on December 8 based on interviews with former Gateway Community Services (GCS) employee Christopher Bernadini, who first spoke with The Maine Wire earlier this year, leading to an exclusive report in May that other Maine news outlets chose to ignore, in part perhaps due to the Lewiston-based groups close ties to senior Democratic lawmakers in the state.

[RELATED: Maine Agencies Funneled Grants to Nonprofits Tied to Dark Money Front’s Voter Outreach Campaign, “New Mainer” Groups and Top Level Democrats]

GCS has been found liable for nearly a million dollars worth of erroneous billing to MaineCare, the state’s Medicare agency, in an unsettling precursor to revelations about the fraudulent theft of a billion dollars from similar taxpayer-funded sources in Minnesota, leading to 80 indictments – all but eight of which charge ethnic Somalis.

Abdullahi Ali, founder and CEO of GCS, ran for president of Jubaland, a semi-autonomous region of Somalia, last year and publicly boasted at the time in Somali media of funding a militia there with proceeds “earned” in the United States. The Maine Wire’s reports on this scandal also fell on the willfully deaf ears of mainstream media outlets in Maine.

[RELATED: Somali-American Received Millions in U.S. Taxpayer Dollars, MaineCare Funding While Claiming to Bankroll Jubaland Militia]

Ali founded Gateway together with its former executive director and current State Representative Deqa Dhalac (D-South Portland), who sits on the Maine Legislature’s Appropriations Committee. Prominent Democrats in the state have called Republican gubernatorial candidate Bobby Charles a racist for calling out Rep. Dhalac as potentially complicit in GCS’ mismanagement.

[RELATED: Republican Gubernatorial Candidate Bobby Charles Pushes Back After Maine Democrats Call Him ‘Racist’]

“I just couldn’t fathom it — I thought we were helping people; I thought this was all on the up-and-up,” Christopher Bernardini told NewsNation about GCS, adding. “I have a passion for helping people and I thought that we were doing the right thing this whole time.”

Bernardini also told NewsNation he decided to come forward “when I saw how they were swindling people. When I had clients calling me to tell me their staff hadn’t shown up and I was told to bill those hours anyway. It just got worse and worse until I started really putting up a stink.”

In addition to the fraud allegations, GCS shares office space in Lewiston with New American outreach groups that played significant roles in voter turnout operations for area Democrats in recent elections, including Governor Janet Mills’ (D) 2022 re-election.

As the national media-storm surrounding Medicaid and COVID-19 funding fraud in Minnesota continues to intensify, more scrutiny of Maine’s opaque and suspect overlap between “non-profits” and political activism is likely to grow.”

  35. Decent summary on what’s transpiring in Europe –

    https://www.thetimes.com/comment/columnists/article/donald-trump-is-calling-for-europe-to-save-itself-rj6f3dvs3

    Excerpt –

“That has happened in the US too, whose cultural elites tell themselves that the nation was born in the original sins of colonialism, racism and “whiteness”. But beyond these rarefied circles, the people of the West have well understood the civilisational threat that has developed. That is why they have voted for Donald Trump and for Europe’s populist parties. And that is the source of Nigel Farage’s appeal.

This civilisational attrition is blindingly obvious to everyone other than the liberal universalists who run British and European societies. Those who say Trump has turned into an enemy of Europe see it that way because they think everyone who warns about the erosion of western civilisation is an enemy of humanity.

The NSS has used blunt language because the Trump administration has only recently dragged America’s own head out of this sand. Far from the claim by critics that the US is reverting to isolationism, it’s doing the opposite. It is suddenly taking an urgent interest in the need for Europe to change its behaviour.

The US previously took Britain and Europe for granted as the indispensable homeland of the Christian civilisation by which America has defined itself. Hence its extreme dismay over the demographic and cultural changes that it believes are now turning Britain and Europe into a different society altogether.

Rather than viewing any threat to Europe — posed by Russia, for example — as a threat to itself, the Trump administration perceives that Europe is itself becoming a threat to America by turning into something that’s no longer Europe .

The enemies of the West understand the cultural vacuum that has developed and the opportunities it opens up for them. Vladimir Putin understands it very well as the collapse of European Christian civilisation. The problem is that he imagines himself as a latter-day Russian emperor leading the restoration of Christian Europe. This is held to justify his invasion of Ukraine and potentially the Baltic states too. Far from saving Europe, therefore, he menaces it.

In America, elements within Maga-world can’t grasp this baleful reality. Instead, they identify with Putin in what they credulously believe is a common defence of Christian civilisation. But those in Britain and Europe who are horrified by these Maga ultras should check their own hypocrisy. As Gordon Sondland, a former US ambassador to the EU, has said, it was Europe’s spinelessness that enabled Putin’s aggression.

Britain and Europe have long leeched off the US for military protection while trashing their own defences, along with their historic culture. The NSS warning, Sondland said, was a wake-up call intended to alarm Europe sufficiently to rearm itself and beef up its defences.

Only Britain and Europe can save themselves. That’s what the Trump administration is saying. That’s what Britain and Europe don’t want to hear”

For all I care, they could also have a jar of those wind whistle blow-y things that you blow through and the paper twirl unfolds and extends 8 inches as put some stick substance on the end. The people could blow on those noisemakers to cause them to unroll , and the sitcky substance could cause some food to adhere to the end and it would then be put in the persons mouth. Makes as much sense as chopsticks. I can see picking up a piece of meat for a shrimp with it, but impractical for eating rice or soup.

–2nd strike of the drug boat

–affordability, higher cost of groceries, polls showing Trump under water on dealing with economy/inflation

They led with a quote by Trump about “…affordability is a Democrat hoax.”

[implying that Trump has no clue that people face real economic problems today and saying affordability itself is a hoax

    BUT

They OMITTED what he said BEFORE saying …”affordability is a Democrat hoax.”–that was reported on other news channels–which said (I am paraphrasing, as Trump cannot speak as fluently as me or other people) and aing [comments] to further enlighten:

Trump actually said: “We inherited high inflation and a big mess from the Democrats. The Dems caused 9% inflation. The Dems are the ones who caused the inflation and affordability problems. Now the Dems want to talk about affordability” [and blame me?]. [The Dems caused it]. [ So now the Dems blaming me for affordability is a hoax]. Affordability is a Democrat hoax.” [You are being duped by the Dems into blaming something on ME that was really CREATED by the DEMs!]

“Raiders coach Pete Carroll made an odd decision to kick a field goal when trailing by 10 points with five seconds remaining in Sunday’s game against the Broncos. Daniel Carlson made a 46-yard kick as time expired, making the final score 24-17.

Making the decision even more curious, the Broncos were 7.5-point favorites, and the over/under was 40.5.

Carroll was hoping for enough time to kick the field goal and attempt an onside kick, but even then, barring a penalty, time would have expired before the Raiders went back on offense. So, frankly, his explanation made as much sense as his decision to kick the field goal.

“I knew it was going to look stupid, like you couldn’t figure out why we were doing it,” Carroll said Monday.

Hey look, this is the guy who gifted the Patriots with a SB when he only one yard to win the game and the title. Instead of giving the ball to Mershawn Lynch, at the time a real beast of a running back who probably had at least an 80% chance of gaining a yard, he called for a risky slant play where a myriad of things could go wrong, and sure enough, one did, it was intercepted and it goes down as probably one of the stupidest play calls n history.

If you look at the City of Miami voting jurisdictions, despite the overarching Dade County going for Trump, it went slightly for Kamala in 2024. Moreover, the prior mayor and the Unions (fire/police) were not on great terms based on their prior contracts. The unions vowed to come out in force this election. OK. So this is the Dem battle cry right now.

First, the DEMS CAUSED the “affordability” problem.

massive government spending that causes inflation

–push higher minimum wage which drives prices higher for goods and services

open borders puts higher price affordability issues on housing, law enforcement, border security, court costs, education, crime and lots of it her things including providing for all the health, education, food, housing needs of 20 MM illegal aliens-

war on fossil fuels and goofy green energy stampede that raises electric costs and gasoline costs

DEI crap that raises costs for businesses and for education, public and higher

–pro riot and street demonstrations that cause property damage and raise insurance costs and cause grocery stores and other businesses to move out of the crime ridden cities that raises the consumers transportation costs to go get their groceries and other goods and services, as well as provide fewer jobs for people who live in the cities and more depedence financially on govt which then has to raise taxes…

give govt funded sex change operations to anyone which raises health care costs,

–defund the police that results in more crime, property damage etc. and higher insurance costs

–Antibusiness mantra that results in layers of unnecessary regulatory burdens on businesses that then cause a pass through of costs causing more inflation on things.

–anti-DOGE and stopping fraud waste and abuse leading to higher taxes to pay for govt services PLUS the fraud and abuse

–reparations for Blacks and by giving tons of money to blacks causes more money supply that leads to higher prices

anti-family policies that lead to more one parent households with only one income rather than two incomes

–more foreign aid which leads to more govt spending and therefore higher taxes than necessary

–legalize more and more drugs tio bring in govt revenue that will never keep up with increase govt costs CAUSED by legalizing more illegal drugs

–Guaranteed / affordable wage that drive up business costs and cause more inflation

hiring quotas and more DEI stuff that leads to more workers with fewer needed work skills that leads to poorer quality of goods and service which eventually costs the consumer more money

–glowbull warming crap that adds a couple thousand dollars to the price of a new car

give 200,000 illegal aliens CDL licences and put them on the highway even though they cannot read English, cause death and destruction and higher insurance costs

opposed to using lethal force to stop illegal drugs coming to U.S. and the drugs cause a big negative impact on the U.S. economy and workforce

–require schools to spend more and more time on foolishness rather than focus on teaching basics and advanced skills to help students get higher paying jobs so they can afford to live and support a family

perpetuating a multi generational welfare system that will always keep a big chunk of people poor and dependant on govt services to survive

[please feel free to add more…]
