Cannot believe NOBODY here made any comments regarding my post last night about killing Somalia pirates vs killing all on drug speed boats in the Caribbean.
The way I see it, there are five categories of voting Americans:
1) There are those who understand the fragility of the American experiment of liberty within a Constitutional Republic and are doing all they can to preserve it.
2) There are those who ignorantly presume our country will just always continue and they don’t need to do anything. They almost never vote or participate in any way other than enjoying the benefits of our way of life. They are often cynical about politics just presuming all parties and candidates are the same.
3) There are those who see themselves always on the short end of the economic and societal stick, and just want to keep using the power of government to raid the storehouses of the rich and thereby grab for themselves the free goodies. They don’t care about crime, drugs, violence, political corruption, or any of that so long as the gravy train of freebies keeps coming to them. They will just keep thinking this way until the complete collapse of the empire. Then whatever new country rises from the ashes, they will demand all the same freebies from that government.
4) There are those who have ignorantly bought into the deconstructionist world-view, that any and all approaches to government and society are equal and valid, meaning they are open to just destroying our Constitutional Republic with its democratically elected leaders, and experiment with other forms of government like socialism and communism, even though history has shown over and over how badly these isms have failed.
5) There are those who are not ignorant, and are knowingly doing all they possibly can to destroy the very country in which they live. They presume that when a new country is built from the ashes, they will be in its power structure meaning they will enjoy all the fruits of such power at the expense of all those who have been destroyed and subjugated to that power.
Most Republicans and conservatives are in category 1.
Most MAGA voters are in category 2.
Most inner city dwellers are in category 3.
Most young people in secular institutes of higher learning are in category 4, along with a goodly number of OWLs (old white liberals).
The far left is category 5, including Obama, the squad, Soros, Mamdani, Mayor Bass, Newsom and a host of others who knowingly are doing everything possible to destroy the USA.
So you can see what we are up against. 5 categories, and its essentially 1 against 5. We got some temporary help from category 2, and sometimes individuals in category 4 become disillusioned and join us (i.e. Tulsi Gabbard).
What you might have noticed is there is no longer any category for the “conservative” Democrat who loves America and wants to see it flourish in freedom and prosperity. That wing of the Democratic Party died years ago. The Democratic Party is now the extremely dangerous mix of categories 3, 4, and 5.
Trump needs to use the bully pulpit to explain to category 2, the MAGA voters, that standing on the sidelines with their heads in the sand is no longer an option. They must step up and fight for their country, or they WILL lose it. Category 1 Americans are simply not numerous enough to save it on their own.
Cannot believe NOBODY here made any comments regarding my post last night about killing Somalia pirates vs killing all on drug speed boats in the Caribbean.
Walt – I am waiting for GF to weigh in.
IF the boat was destroyed and no longer a threat and IF any survivors were in the water/wreckage and IF they did not pose a threat to US forces, I believe they should have been pulled from the water and arrested. However, that is a lot of IFs to determine in a few seconds. I believe GF served on Guided Missile Frigates or Destroyers so I will defer to him.
The narco boats are not “threats” to the Navy ships so that is a non-issue.
However, even if it was true that there were survivors, if the boat is still floating and the mission is to sink it to prevent the drugs from killing Americans, hitting it again is perfectly legitimate. There is absolutely no moral or legal obligation to rescue survivors before the mission is accomplished.
If Hegseth deliberately said ok now let’s target the survivors that is different, I doubt that is the case. If he said, the sucker is still floating, sink it, that is perfectly legitimate.
5) There are those who are not ignorant, and are knowingly doing all they possibly can to destroy the very country in which they live. They presume that when a new country is built from the ashes, they will be in its power structure meaning they will enjoy all the fruits of such power at the expense of all those who have been destroyed and subjugated to that power”
That is basically the entire Dem leadership and the entire Dem base that votes in primaries.
These people are not seeking to transform the system, they want to destroy it and replace it with an entirely new one, essentially a Marxist society.
Getting enough people that don’t want that to happen is the challenge. Maybe Elon Musk gets it. But unless people like him seriously engage in a counter effort the far left educational system will eventually impose Marxism, bet on it.
The R party base was becoming populist, isolationist, and protectionist long before Trump.
In 2016, while “front runner” Jeb was talking about immigration as an act of love and about “respecting conservatives” and “common core”, Trump correctly read the room and tapped into the prevailing sentiment. He didn’t invent anything, there was no time for that.
There were 16 Rs running on the traditional R platform of appealing to educated suburbanites and rural voters and there was one guy running on “protecting the working class”.
When the GE came around, there was one guy running on “protecting the working class” and one woman running on “coal miners need to learn to code” and “half the country is composed of deplorables”.
The NYT says the WAPO story is false. Their narrative is similar to what I described above, hitting the narco boat more than once is legitimate.
“According to five U.S. officials, who spoke separately and on the condition of anonymity to discuss a sensitive matter that is under investigation, Mr. Hegseth, ahead of the Sept. 2 attack, ordered a strike that would kill the people on the boat and destroy the vessel and its purported cargo of drugs.
But, each official said, Mr. Hegseth’s directive did not specifically address what should happen if a first missile turned out not to fully accomplish all of those things. And, the officials said, his order was not a response to surveillance footage showing that at least two people on the boat survived the first blast.
Admiral Bradley ordered the initial missile strike and then several follow-up strikes that killed the initial survivors and sank the disabled boat. As that operation unfolded, they said, Mr. Hegseth did not give any further orders to him.”
I was out running errands and listening to radio while doing so. Heard a good portion of Trump’s cabinet meeting where each cabinet officers was reporting on what progress is being made in their specific department to ndo Biden crap and perform and deliver for the American people.
Sorry, but I have no compassion for the narco-terrorists. They were warned. They left the dock loaded with narcotics anyway.
I do have compassion for the grieving mother who lost her only son because he tried fentanyl once and it killed him. I do have compassion for the young person who made one mistake and now is mentally impaired for life. I do have compassion for the countless addicts would want to stop but cannot get free of the addiction.
Our cat lost his collar last night when son had him out and the cat jumped the fence. Could not find it today. I hope he did not get into a near death scrape with a coyote (or hungry illegal immigrant.
*********************
Also yesterday, son and I decided to chip and shred the big a$$ed pile of brush and many bags of leaves before the expected snow came today. We got R done but I was whipped. While the chipper/shredder was running I reached below it to grab leaves and debris and my wrist was burned by the very hot carburetor–lesson learned. Burned the top layer of so of skin off my inner wrist. Slathering first aid ointment on and it doing OK.
Also, yesterday evening while setting up all sorts of decorations, the wife dropped one of the ceramic wise men and broke its head off. She tried glueing it but it will not hold.
Today, I spent considerable time sawing and then using box cutter to whittle down a small long wooden rod to stick the head on and then whittle further to put the other end into the hollow body. My wife did not want a very long necked wise man who looked like he came from a circus, so I had to whittle further.
The decapitated wise man is now whole again and I am a hero.
Of course there are blurred edges on all five of the political spectrum categories I outlined above. There are some MAGA candidates who do vote regularly, and maybe even some that will continue to vote now that Trump got them in the habit. But the majority of MAGA voters were new to the voting booths in 2016, most came back in 2020, and again in 2024. It remains to be seen if they will care after Trump is done, much less care in 2026.
The email of WV monthly financial data/report came yesterday.
WV is doing very well financially as to our current FY2026 $5.5B budget. Many revenue categories are above estimates and above last years actual receipts. Rainy Day fund (one of largest in nation) continues to grow well beyond $1billion. It bothers ME that we keep dumping in more money to the RDF when it is already over 25% of the annual budget. We are on track for another big annual surplus at the end of June, 2026.
Sales tax revenue dramatically up, Income tax collections dramatically up…
The 40-year plan (started in 1995 when TRS was only at 9% fully funded) to pay down the unfunded liability is doing exceptionally well.Of WVs 11 retirement plans, the PERS (30,100 active and retired government employees) is now fully funded (actually 101% so no unfunded liability) and TRS (37,000+ active and retired teachers in WV) is now 83% fully funded with a $2B unfunded liability.Experts say if you are at 85% fully funded, then you really are in essence fully funded. the rest of the retirement funds are fully funded and THEN some. Our investments of $22BB in retirement assets is getting a big return on investment. The Judges retirement plan is funded at 244%!!!
The 40 year payment plan requires WV to dump in annual extra payments of $500MM or more each year fro how until 2035.
In 2024/5, when Manchin was governor, he got legislation passed to allow him to bond out the Tobacco Settlement payments WV was getting from tobacco companies for about $1.B. The people who bought the WV Tob. Securitization Bond gave WV $1B and in exchange were guaranteed to get at least $60MM a year for 20 years.
THIS YEAR, we get that asset back and the statee will get about $60-65MM/yr in revenue from tob. companies. Instead, we COULD again bond that asset out for another $1Billion and use that money to PAY OFF HALF of the TRS unfunded liability and bring it up to 94% fully funded. THEN we could GREATLY reduce the ANNUAL EXTRA payment under the 40 year plan, saving about $300-350 MILLION DOLLARS A YEAR. Then use that $300-350MM per year to do much needed things in WV.
I have been pushing this idea for at least 6 years to people who I still know who hold elected positions in WV state government, But nobody seems to take my idea and run with it.
Truthfully, some I have talked to just get a glazed over look on there face and I can tell they do not understand any of this.
Chicon, I double-checked to make sure there wasn’t any typo. There wasn’t. I got it right.
And I know several of these. One guy I have heard his whole life just say to me both parties are the same. So far as I know had never voted before 2016. Has voted Trump three straight times. Not sure he will ever vote again.
Jason said….”Trump is a symptom of MAGA, not the cause. He is along for the ride.
MAGA is much bigger than Trump, and it will be around a lot longer than he is.”
Exactly correct. In fact, I would submit that Vance is more of a MAGA purist than Trump. Last I checked, Vance is ahead in the 2028 Republican nomination polls by several miles. Bitter’s party of yesteryear is in more danger of extinction.
Creating investment accounts was included in the BBB passed by Congress earlier in the year. The provisions target low and middle class children in helping them build a savings account for them in the future. I found the event in the Roosevelt Room a positive event, acknowledging the Dells for their enormous contribution to this venture. This ceremony followed a 2-hour end of the year cabinet meeting detailing the work being done in each department of Trump’s administration. I don’t recall other presidents sharing so openly how government was functioning, what goals were being advanced.
”Billionaires Michael and Susan Dell have pledged $6.25 billion to help 25 million American children open newly created investment accounts under President Donald Trump’s Invest America initiative.”
I know saying anything positive about Trump risks more “cultist” accusations from the barking dog around here. However, as Trump gets little credit for the good policies created in his administration I am going to take my chances of having cheap shots fired by Bitter.
Trump is a big part of the MAGA movement, but he is preparing others to take over once his term is over. Both Vance and Rubio have cultivated the direct language, without necessarily the aspersions, that drew voters to him and the movement. As long as Trump is able to deliver a better economy to the working classes, dial back woke culture, and stay out of needless wars he will hand the presidency over to another populist administration.
Bitter’s party of yesteryear is in more danger of extinction.
Chi can hate me all he wants. MAGA and traditional Republicans he and Tina hate got Trump elected. The idea that MAGA alone can elect future Presidents is nonsense.
I think there is a big difference between posters asking people:
Do you like Trump as a person? (NO)
and
Do you support Trump? (???)
and
Do you support the policies and accomplishments of the Trump administration regarding controlling the borders, enforcing immigration laws, removing illegal aliens from the U.S. who are criminals and who have violated U.S. immigration laws, finding tens of thousands of lost illegal immigrant children, policies that is ratcheting down inflation, gasoline prices to fall, increasing American influence in the world, bringing billions of dollars in investments to the U.S. from other countries, ending DEI policies, ending federal income taxes on tips / overtime / social security, increasing take home pay bu making the previous Trump tax cuts permanent, cutting out government waste and fraud by greatly reducing federal spending for USAID and other agencies, and policies that have ended various wars and conflicts between two other nations, policies to interdict and stop illegal drugs from coming to the U.S.? and using tariffs to force negotiation with other countries to get more favorable terms for the U.S. in trade, efforts to reduce crime in U.S. cities, getting NATO counties to share more of the financial costs of NATO? (YES to ALL)
and
Do you support Trump’s tearing apart of immigrant families through his racist immigration policies? (YES)
and
Do you like Trump and all the goofy things he says and does like being on radio and selling Trump watches and Bitcoin and Bibles, etc, Trump renaming the Gulf of Mexico and wanting to annex Greenland and Canada and all the names he calls other people he dislikes? (NO)
Bitter said…..”The idea that MAGA alone can elect future Presidents is nonsense.”
Said nobody.
Currently, the establishment GOP can’t win in urban areas, suburban areas, ex-urban areas or rural areas. Other than that, Mrs. Lincoln, how was the play?
Walt said….”I think there is a big difference between posters asking people:

Hi, Walt, thanks for the excellent post. I hope your family and friends are well.
On your post, it is fascinating to me how many people answer “no” to the first question with a level of emotion that prevents even addressing the rest.
I used to ask why he doesn’t soften his personality. I guess it it the same reason many of us here can’t do the same. He is who he is, especially at his age.
For me, I like most of what he does. I most like that he’s a fighter trying to follow through on as many promises as possible. Few politicians do so, imo.
166 years ago today, Dec. 2, John Brown was executed after being found guilty of treasonous assault on Harpers Ferry VA (Now WV) in October of 1859 and for murder and for trying to invite a slave rebellion.
Brown was the first person ever to be hanged for treason in the U.S.
John Brown’s raid took place in October, the trial took place at the current court house in Charles Town not long after and Brown was hanged on Dec. 2, 1859.
Brown’s men captured various white people in the area and hold as hostages and tried in vain to free those people’s slaves. What few were “freed” by Brown quickly were slaves again after John Brown’s raid was put down. The only slaves actually freed by John Brown’s raid were the slaves of one of the white guys in Harpers Ferry that Brown’s men shot and killed . The man’s will stated that his slaves were to be freed up on his death. And they indeed were freed.
And ironically, John Brown’s raid was supposed to help the Blacks, but the first person Brown’s men shot and killed in Harpers Ferry was a free Black.
John Brown was a nut job with evil intent. He was a divider, not a uniter. He tried to start a revolution, he killed, kidnapped and shot people. He tried to seize the federal arsenal at Harpers Ferry. and tried to start a slave rebellion and fought against American military forces. He had earlier been part of the killing wars in Kansas between pro and anti slave factions.
I attended his trial in Charles Town where he was found guilty. (Well, it was a recreation of his trial back in the late 1970s or early 80s. It was held in the same court house where Brown was tried back in 1859. My wife and seats were in the jury box with other people who paid to come see the play “The Anvil”. I kid you not.
*****************
John Brown is also remembered for his two big hits “This is a Man’s World” and “I Feel Good” that Union soldiers sang during the Civil War. Ooops–scratch that–that was not JOHN Brown. That was JAMES Brown.
With results like that, all that redistricting might not work or might back fire. The Rs would be better served using that effort to get Congress to pass some legislation and confirm some appointees. A record is better to run on.
Van Epps should thank the people who voted for him. They made the difference in his election. Seriously, I’m glad he thanked God. I hope he can be a productive member of Congress who knows that there are way more important things than himself. We’d be better off if our elected leaders were humble.
In my book I am writing in my head about me being the founder of a successful Research and Marketing Systems company (RMS) that gets into political polling and finds a unique was to be scarily accurate in political polling….
The hero of my book is Brad Sterling (which is actually me) who starts this company and it grows and thrives and I locate it in Lexington KY. Over 50% of the several hundred people I hire are WV natives. I seek them out and hire them because of the strong work ethic of WV people. In this fictional account, my wife died when our daughter was only 16 years old. I mourned the loss of my wife and devoted my energies to raising and providing for our daughter, and to growing my company.
My daughter goes on to graduate from lawn school and becomes a top notch lawyer in Nashville. She specializes in working with performing artists in Nashville’s country music scene and her specialty is in dealing with pre-nup agreements and divorces of wealthy people in the music industry. She herself has become a well liked person in Nashville and makes millions of dollars a year.
I once had an affair with one of her hot college friends (who is from California) when she came home with my daughter for the weekend, and later had another affair as well as with the mother of this hot college student when I go to CA for work and pleasure. My daughter does not know about either of these affairs. The hot college friend of my daughter ‘finished college and became the weather girl for the TV station in Lexington, and still wants to hook up again…
My real love interest is a WV gal who has been working for me for 10 years or so and manages the political polling division of my company (now the bread and butter of my business). She (who is the character “Stephanie” in my book) has a lot of smarts, and is a vivacious and
]fantastic beauty who is nearly perfect in every way. She was married years ago and divorced after 6 years of marriage due to her husband being two timing douche. No children.
By this time, my daughter is 33 years old
I am 62 years old and Stephanie is 47, 15 years younger than me and closer to my daughter’s age to my age. I hide my interest in Stephanie and never try to make a move on her or tell her my feelings and yearnings for her. Why? 1) Because of our age difference and 2) I think it would not work out and I would get my heart broken like had happened twice before when I was in college. These broken heart events were before I later found real love and was married to that wonderful gal who died suddenly after a brief illness.
My company has a weekend getaway house in a rural area with a big lake and an hour or so our of Lexington. The top managers sign up for going there on weekends. One long weekend, It was my weekend to go up there and when I arrived I found that Stephanie was there sunbathing by the lake. I talked to her and she was embarrassed that she had gotten the weekends mixed up and it was not her weekend…I said no problem, you stay the weekend and I will go out in the boat and do some fishing and then go on back home MD you n enjoy the long weekend here.
When I returned several hours later with a nice bunch of fish on my stringer, we walked back up to the house. As she climbed the stairs ahead of me leading up to the deck of the house, I noticed she had a tick imbedded in her rear close to the edge of her swimsuit. It was in a place where she could’ve not see it nor extract it. and it was fairly near the “promise land” if you know what I mean.
Embarrassing hilarity ensued where I was able to safely remove the tick by applying baby oil to get it to back out. While she showered, I cooked a fish dinner for us both and afterward she asked me to stay and share the house for the weekend and we could each stay in separate bedrooms. She would appreciate my company. So I decided to do that, even though I told Stephanie that Margaret in HTR would have a hissy fit if she ever found we were sharing the house.
Well, things eventually heated up over the next several days and nights..and a torrid affair began…
My daughter in my book of fiction went to law school, not “lawn” school.
Forgot to mention that my beautiful daughter was an accomplished swimmer and tennis player in high school and college. And forgot to mention she was married for a couple of years while living and working in Nashville, but got divorced. Ironic, I know.
The mother of the hot college student that I had an affair with was a divorcee.
This woman also lured me into a threesome with another attractive divorcee who lived next door (and was good friends with this other woman) when we went over there to swim in her pool. When these two hot CA women were married, they would take turns having secret threesome with other men when their husbands were out of town on business. Both ended up getting divorces. Forgot to mention that.
News from the Pacific Northwest…..Gary Ridgway, a.k. a., the Green River Killer is close to death according to some medical sources close to the him in prison. This serial killer, known for 49 killings and burials, is suspected to have killed at least 80 women.
The hot divorcee woman from CA is coming to visit her daughter in Lexington. She phones me and tells me her daughter told her mom that she slept with me. And the mother told the daughter that she also slept with me.The mother says and the daughter would like to get together with me for some fun….
…and I want no parts of it now that I am in the beginning of a wonderful relationship with Stephanie…
Lots of internal conflict going on in this book in my head…
I have actually thought of writing a second book that none of you except Walt will read. It involves zombies and coaching softball. Not nearly as racy as Walt’s book.
In my book, Stephanie had earlier worked in the field for me on a project for the State of AZ who was deciding whether or not to legalize certain drugs. I had her go to CO to do research in how CO’s deciding to legalize certain drugs several years before played out for them so we could reporter back to AZ. She found out that there was a lot of downsides and negatives to legalization.
This nefarious guy who would stand to make millions if AZ legalized certain drugs wanted her to not report back about all the downside of legalization. He owned a multi-state retail shoe outlet and sent a shoebox filled with hundreds of thousands of dollars to her hotel room to try to bribe her to do a favorable report about CO’s legalization.
She refused the money and we reported the true facts of legalization to AZ.
Republicans won by 8.9% in an R+10 rated district in a special election where President Trump was not on the ballot. Van Epps was not an incumbent, the district had already been made more Democratic to try to squeeze two more Republican seats out of Tennessee..
The Cook Political Report’s Partisan Voting Index (Cook PVI) for Tennessee’s 7th Congressional District (TN-07) is R+10. So, not seeing this as an alarming underperformance as being portrayed in the media. In fact, based on all the money spent by Dems, it looks quite the opposite.
its worse than that Jason, headlines this morning say the TN win for the GOP was narrow….closer than expected, concerning for the GOP, etc. Had a Dem won by 9 in a blue district no way it would be described as such
Emerson did poll before Trump started asking people to vote. So, one of two things is true. Emerson flat missed. Or Trump swing the election by 7% in the Republican’s favor. I think this story is more about Trump’s continuing influence over the electorate than a polling miss.

If she wins, you are sad but you have $10000.

The Dems on social media have convinced themselves the crackpot could win.
Tonight, they will be talking about how the R won but with a “reduced margin”.

If the Dem wins, Rs will be in real trouble.
It’s one thing to lose VA and NJ and NYC, it’s another to lose a +22 Trump district.
Even with the fact its a low turnout election and with normal decrease in enthusiasm, the R should still win by 10.

At Predictit, only about a 25% chance the R will by more than 10.

In TN 7 CD I think the R will win.
The D raised more than TWICE the money the R candidate did, No surprise there.
but third party spending by other groups has tilted the total spending to the R. (which is different from the spending in the Nov. races in VA.
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
I say the R Epps wins by 7 or 8 points.
Yes, the MSM and Ds will claim victory since Trump won that district last year by 22 points.

Nah.
The problem with that theory is that it is completely the other way around.
Trump is a symptom of MAGA, not the cause. He is along for the ride.
MAGA is much bigger than Trump, and it will be around a lot longer than he is.

Frustrating.

Last night MS NOW was running a headline
“Dems looking to overperform in TN race”.
You gotta love the Pravda media.

its worse than that Jason, headlines this morning say the TN win for the GOP was narrow….closer than expected, concerning for the GOP, etc.

Actual MSM headline story this AM –

Seriously? As DW said, if a dem won in a solid blue district by the same margin we’d never see such headlines. What garbage
