  2. IMO, you can note and teach that Indians, Blacks (both slave and free), and women made contributions to the Am. Rev.

But you should not at the same time diminish what the Founding Fathers did, nor what the typical male patriot soldier did.

I do not call that woke.

When you diminish the contributions of the founding fathers and denigrate them and diminish the role of the (overwhelmingly) men who took up arms…then that is being woke.”

    I completely agree with this.

And I think there are people diminishing those contributions.

    Charles Lee sucked.

    **********

And he was kind of a nut.

In later years after the war, in his home he shared with his wife…he had a falling out with his wife and drew a line on the floor in every room where he had and would occupy his one designated half of the room and his wife the other and they stayed out of the other’s half of the room.

I did not say all the Am. Rev. war generals from Berkeley County were superb. I just said t hey were from Berkeley County.

But not Ken Burns. Which you would know if you watched it.

I did not watch Burns’ series on Jazz, Baseball or Country Music but I heard they were good. I thought the Civil War one was excellent except for the theme that the Confederates were human rather than evil traitors.

The wokesters have not figured out a way to make the Confederacy look good in a manner that fits their narrative.

But give them time. The challenge is to figure out a way to deny the Confederacy was pro-slavery. Once they can overcome this hurdle perhaps they can further malign Lincoln, the ultimate objective.

“I’m really trying to give this a fair hearing, but so far (I’m on ep.3) it’s a staggeringly negative portrayal of those who founded this country. To a point that I come away after each episode with the impression that the people who made it are not fans of The United States.”

I have seen enough… The PBS series “The American Revolution” is a profound disappointment. It sucks almost all of the magic out of our founding (for fear of venerating white males) and is dreary, boring, and overtly woke. PBS had an opportunity to prove their conservative critics wrong, instead they did the opposite”

“Less than 3 minutes into the Ken Burns documentary on the American Revolution, and we get: 1. White people are bad. 2. Native Americans had a centuries-old democracy before British colonists arrived. 3. Benjamin Franklin copied the Native American blueprint.”

Matthew Iglesias liked it despite calling it woke

I’ve been really enjoying the new Ken Burns American Revolution documentary. It’s “woke” in an appropriate way, making sure to include a wide range of perspectives and stakeholders, while fundamentally affirming the core values that have inspired this country for generations.”

  26. Hey Bitter, just curious, but why would you call a loose confederation between tribes a democracy like you’ve written above, notwithstanding the opinion of  “Cynthia Feathers” of the Pennsylvania gazette in the article you link.  The Iroquois confederation representatives were selected by each tribe’s Chief or tribal council, who were by no means democratically elected by the tribe.  For example, the Iroquois Chief was selected by a hereditary line of sachem, not a vote of the tribe. In fact, the average Iroquois had no say in their tribal leadership.  Nothing I’ve read in the writings of Ben Franklin referred to the Iroquois confederation as a “democracy” as well, although he did refer to them as savages a number of times. As an aside, although the Iroquois were not known for having a democratic tribal structure, they were quite well known for their ritualistic cannibalism and the horrendously savage, days long celebratory torture of their captives.  Check out The Wild Frontier for a good read on this.

  29. Bitter, Ben Franklin certainly referred to the loose confederation of Indian tribes as a model for the confederation of our colonies, but he never referred to it and a democracy, . I wasn’t tweaking you, I just wanted to get an idea of why you would buy into an Indian advocate writer’s characterization of it as a democracy.

I haven’t seen the new Ken burns documentary, so I don’t really have an opinion on that, although I do tend to agree that Burns has gone progressively more woke in his work since his Civil War series.

I REALLY think these videos need to be shown in schools to teach young people to

    –not run from cops

–identify yourself when police ask you who you are

–don’t get out of the car riding a traffic stop unless the police ask you to get out of your car

–do not lie to police and give them fake name

    –do not argue with police

–have a drivers licence , insurance and registration when you drive a car

–do not let people who possess large quantities of drugs ride in your car, because you can be arrested for possession

–do not decide to physically fight officers

–DO put your feet inside the back seat of the squad car because all sorts of bad stuff is about to happen to you if you do not and you will make your situation 10 times worse

–do not claim you are a sovereign citizen who is above the laws of this country

–only refuse to give your name, ID, drivers license and refuse to get out of the car on their command if you WANT to A) get arrested and go to jail B) get your car thoroughly searched C)have your car towed and have to pay daily impound fee.

and a whole host of other things.

Meanwhile, Florida Rep. Byron Donalds calls for federal crackdown on sanctuary-state policies allowing illegal immigrants to obtain commercial driver’s licenses.

Posted by Leslie Eastman Thursday, November 20, 2025 at 07:00am 31 Comme

A few weeks ago, Secretary of Transportation Sean Duffy issued an emergency action plan including new emergency federal restrictions for non-citizens seeking commercial driver’s licenses (CDL), in the wake of horrific traffic accidents caused by illegal immigrant drivers recklessly disregarding American rules for the road.

The emergency action plan included a threat to seriously fine the State of California for essentially running a CDL mill for illegals, as one-quarter of these licenses issued were for “non-domiciled” drivers.
