Yup, two more rate cuts penciled in for 2025 which is what the market was expecting.
I won’t parse Powell’s words , but he did imply that the current elevated inflation is transitory (though he didn’t use that word).
Job market expected to soften slightly.
Hence the 25pt cut.
A 50pt cut may have spooked the markets since it could have implied a much weaker jobs market.
I think they could have gone either way, 25pt was the safe move. More favorable PPI/CPI numbers would probably have gotten us 50pts.

I am generally more on the conservative side on Fed policy. Big moves rock the boat and spook the markets. .50 would certainly help me personally, but a steady flow of small rate cuts signals things are under control.
That is not to say Powell isn’t a political hack, he is, same as Yellen.

Joe an Jason are right, though I still think .5 was worth the risk. Nothing beyoond that, though, that would surely have spooked markets.
Meanwhile I will wait on the bond market and see if I can refi my 10/1 ARM; at least I still have seven years to get the 30 year back down to 4.5, though by then, I’ll have paid enough of the principal down that even somehting like 6.5 or 7 will leave my monthly roughly intact.

UPDATE (1:04 PM PDT, 9/17/2025): York County, PA Shooting in North Codorus Township. Multiple officers injured in an officer-involved shooting reported at 2:10 PM ET near Haar and Emig Roads. At least two people, possibly officers, are in serious condition at WellSpan York Hospital, which is on lockdown with enhanced security. A medevac helicopter airlifted at least one officer. The suspected shooter is reportedly dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, per unconfirmed sources. Multiple fatalities are mentioned in dispatch logs, but the York County Coroner has not been called to the scene. Gov. Josh Shapiro and AG Dave Sunday are en route. The Mexican Consulate is monitoring the incident, though their involvement is unclear. Spring Grove Area School District’s shelter-in-place order was lifted at 4:10 PM ET. There was a post from the Mexican consulate but it was taken down. The neighbor across the road said he knew the family of the shooter and did not say they were Mexican.
