Finally decided to check the 8/28 thread wondering if there was some unplanned fight / farewell in there, and instead found out that new threads are in this other section. Relieved!

Sad times once again for our country. It was already going to be a sad week with the Sept 11 anniversary. I’ll admit that I did not now who Charlie Kirk was. I had just heard the name in passing conversations but that doesn’t matter. It’s just truly sad. In this country, it seems the people are just filled with rage and hate. Combine that will a mental illness epidemic, culture of violence, and fake memes egging on this dysfunction, and we have a scary formula.
The aftermath of the shooting tells me it won’t get any better. We’ll now get the predictable obligatory blame game. Whoever the shooter is, we will get claims that he was right wing, left wing, muslim, russian, etc. There will be fake memes showing the shooter posing with <choose your enemy>, etc. Each side will find its narrative. I’ve seen this movie before and it seems to be showing very frequently. Sickening.

Fla.. That’s the problem, that was an elite Episcopalian private school. They are both in a different school because we had to move to a new city, and in that school it’s very small. (my youngest (9) total grade size is 18, oldest (11) is 21).
Oddly enough, I learned about Kirk’s death from him. I didn’t really know his name, and only realized who it was when they references “prove me wrong”…But they immediately knew who he was and what he stood for. They were both very very sad.

That furry stuff in school is insane. I am so glad my kids are done with school. College isn’t what it used to be either, but can’t have everything.
Anyone with young kids needs to seriously consider home schooling. It’s one of my regrets. I should have home-schooled for a wide variety of reasons.

I agree with you on homeschooling. The boys have soooo many outside activities that they get the social interaction there, and don’t need school as much. I am actually considering Stanford online school for th oldest starting next year. It’s the number 3 school in the USA, but it’s all online except for two weeks a semester at Stanford. But they are online all day with each other…and the oldest is super computer savvy.

BTW the youngest just got chosen for his second international tournament (soccer) in December in the Dominican Republic. Last April he was chosen to play in the Youth World Cup where they beat Turkey, Australia, Japan, Canada and UAE, only lost to Argentina and France!!!

Got $32,000 full ride to university in Utah.
Attended one semester–that is all. Never went back.
Then in 2025 was enrolled in a course at a community college to be an electrician–and he murders Charlie Kirk.
I have read nothing about him being employed. The news says he had a “roommate” which implies he was an apartment. And the family says he had recently COME OVER for a dinner which implies he was not living at home. Reports say when he came over for dinner THEY (shooter and his roommate? or shooter and some other family member?) talked about how THEY hated Charlie Kirk or some other family member.

I get it that not every bright kid finds that he or she fits in college. My oldest grandson graduated with high honors. Decided to go to university in Provo Utah. Did not fit in well with a Mormon majority culture there (grandson was not Mormon). After a year there, he did not return. But he did not become a radicalized killer.
He worked in WI (where his family is and where he grew up). Then decided to go to Montana and work at a ski resort there (also works there in spring and summer as the resort does other recreational activities. Then he comes back to WI and works there in construction or whatever for a few months and then goes back to Montana to live and work.
This is his second year in Big Sky Montana and he loves it.

In the little community where I grew up in WV, in one conservative family they had all boys. The woman desperately wanted a daughter. They had a third son. His mother dressed him in girls clothes for the first 5 years of his life and treated him like he was her daughter. when he went to public school, he began being dressed in boys clothes. He always had a strong feminine-like side.
He was a couple grades behind me in school Lots of feminine characteristics. He graduated and went to same college as me. Was a business major but also was very artsy. He joined same fraternity as me and he, two other frat brothers and I worked a summer in Wildwood NJ.
He was fairly smart, but was a contrarian. Was a hard core Republiocan hating liberal, unlike all the rest of his family. Always took the most bizarre stances on issues and in politics. After graduation, he started his own successful interior design business in a large city in PA. Got married and had a son. He passed away a few years ago.
I get how sometimes a kid CAN grow up to be very different from the rest of his family. But I have never understood WHY.

I had a productive meeting with the car. Instead of trying to get her to come out from under the bed in the room we set up for her, I just turned my back on her and sat on floor. After a few minutes, she came out and sat next to me. I said GFY. She continued to sit next to me so I petted her. Then we played with a shoelace.
I think she just wanted me to tell her to F off before she accepted me. Typical cat.

The cat’s name is Kitty. I think it is a stupid name but she has had it for 10 years. The couple who owned her got divorced and dropped her off at the shelter. They had not taken her to a vet in 9 years. Some of her fur had to be shaved because it was so matted. She is also overweight. Those people really sucked.
