Contrary to FLA2025’s absurd theories, higher costs on goods and materials and equipment that compose the services DO affect the price of services.

Only in FLA2025’s midget brain do higher costs on the components of the service do not affect their prices.

Oh wait, maybe the service companies just “eat” the higher cost and they have no impact on prices, profits, investments, I forgot.

So if FLA2025 was honest, which he isn’t, he wouldn’t have tried to insert the “not consumer goods” meme.

His implication, which he deems “mischaracterization”, is that higher costs on businesses was not reflected on consumer goods, but only on “services”.

This was a pre-emptive dishonest attempt to justify the “unexpected” rise in CPI, which goes against his stupid theory that higher costs don’t affect prices, demand, investments or profits (they only get “eaten”). By pretending higher costs don’t affect services, only consumer goods (wrong), he was trying to cover for the higher CPI numbers so his “theory” was not busted.

The problem with low IQ, low information, low reasoning capacity morons like FLA2025 is that they can be read like an open book.

probably bc expected ppi was very high last month, and ppi tends to flow downhill into the CPI the following month

But PPI was very low this month so next….should be very low CPI

I think the high ppi was transient reflection of the tariff tantrum stuff

  20. So, another month with inflation above target and another set of excuses.

Let’s summarize – CPI up 2.9% year-on-year, 3.1% if we take out food and energy. Latest monthly numbers show no downward trend.

Unemployment up slightly to 4.3%, still well below the 5% ‘natural rate’. Still more than 7 million open jobs in the economy. ICE removing undocumented residents at a rapid rate and immigrant flow still outward, not inward.

So, the Fed’s dual mandate looks like this: full employment – check; inflation – no check.

Indicated action – keep short term rates above neutral rate until inflation falls to 2% or below. A quarter point cut – maybe; larger than quarter point cut – not advisable.

All the hot air coming from DJT and locally from Tina is just wasted energy.

Fla2025 – You are an economist. Do you agree with this summary?

  22. Purportedly an excerpt from leaked ATF memo-

in Orem, UT. Mr. Kirk was speaking at the University as part of The American Comeback Tour. Multiple SLC I and III agents responded immediately. The suspect fired one shot from an elevated position on a rooftop in an adjacent building on the campus and surveillance video shows the suspect jumping off and fleeing the area on foot. ATF and other law enforcement located an older model imported Mauser 30-06 caliber bolt action rifle wrapped in a towel in a wooded area near the campus. The location of the firearm appears to match the suspects route of travel. The spent cartridge was still chambered in addition to three unspent rounds in the top fed magazine. All cartridges have engraved wording on them expressing
    transgender and anti-fascist ideology.

Having studied the 70s inflation cycle and the cost of premature loosening, I am very conservative when it comes to taming this beast, although I know a number of well trained economists who agree with Tina that more aggressive cutting is in order. They generally believe the employment numbers are misleading and the economy is in worse shape than presented, warranting more aggressive fed loosening. Not sure I agree, but check out Eric Basmajian and his EPB research for a cogent discussion of this perspective. Eric’s a good guy and far from an economic illiterate ,

  29. Fla2025 – The employment numbers after the large revision are concerning, but not because it suggests the books were cooked. Much of the data that comes from employers is now suspect, due to low response rates and difficulty in contacting small companies. Almost all of these surveys are voluntary, and many of the people who used to respond to these survey requests are no longer employed (payroll clerks, HR compliance folks, etc). BLS and Census may soon have to scrap surveys completely and find new ways of estimating employment, wages, and other items currently in the establishment portion of the Employment Situation Summary.

Regarding the low employment growth numbers, the Household portion of the ESS gives information about native-born vs immigrant workers. While native-born employment has increased by 2.7 million year-over-year, foreign born employment has dropped by 800K. That explains some of the softness in the establishment numbers.

Still, it is concerning that among native-born residents, the ‘not in labor force’ number has risen 2.3 million over the past 12 months. Among foreign born, there are 500K more not in the labor force this August versus one year ago. That does suggest some slackness in labor markets.

You can try to explain that higher costs (tariffs) affects the price of services too but when you are as ignorant as Tina and FLA2025 it is a waste of time.

Auto repair is a service. If the component that you have to replace is subject to tariffs and now costs more, the service will charge more to replace it.
