HAPPY ANNIVERSARY!?!

The first post from the lifeboat was May 5, 2023! Still here.

123 responses to “HAPPY ANNIVERSARY!?!”

  1. Chi – The graduation happened. There were 5,000 students in her class but some chose to walk in individual college ceremonies (like nursing, business, etc.). Probably 3000+ names called quickly in 3 hours. Nice dinner afterwards. Leg was on fire but worth it.

A few students waived Palestinian flags to a few cheers and many boos. Classless stunt. If they wanted to do it outside, I can live with it. Very insulting to the Jewish students in the ceremony.

That’s a shame. It’s not the time and place, imo. Same would be true if the Jewish kids did it.

I’m glad you jacked up the leg long enough ago to let you participate.

To be clear, not suggesting I’m glad you hurt your leg…

    Trump wants of reopen Alcatraz.

I guess it would be a symbolic FU to California but it does not make sense.

The SUPERMAX prison concept, located in remote areas, is much smarter than Alcatraz.

Not to mention it will cost a fortune and be more expensive to maintain in CA than in most other states.

Plus, it is just a distraction from other priorities.

Of course, the late night shows will appreciate the ammunition.

David Portnory is pissed and has fired 2 waitresses and identified some of the Temple students. But rather than trying to get them expelled he is going to send them Auschwitz.

I am skeptical they will learn anything, but who knows.

  22. The reason Alcatraz was closed over 6 decades ago was because it was too costly to run. The Daily Mail has said it was three times more expensive to run than any other prison. Trump also wanted to expand the prison, which is more difficult to do being on a small island in SF Bay. Having all this in mind, the prez also followed up by saying ”this was only an idea.” It won’t happen.

  65. A general theory on Trump trolling –

Yesterday, in my Sunday Smiles essay, I mused about Trump’s “own the libs” style of trolling.

It drives the liberals nuts, which can be very entertaining to watch, but I think a lot of MAGA converts who were initially reluctant to support Trump for cultural reasons are made extremely uncomfortable by his constantly trolling liberals. . . .

What’s the point, they wonder. Is it presidential? Doesn’t Trump have more important things to do? Is it unnecessarily provocative?

Obviously, what set off my musings was the recent controversy about Trump’s tweet in which he put up an AI-generated image of himself in Papal garb. Liberals went insane. Again.

A year or two ago, these same people applauded when the FBI labeled traditional Catholics “domestic terrorists,” regularly call priests pedophiles (I could write essay after essay about the fact that government-employed public school teachers abuse more children in any given year than priests did in 70 years and liberals work assiduously to prevent kids escaping the public schools), and bash the Church due to its pro-natalism and anti-gender-ideology stances.

But whatever. . . . Trump’s greatest allies are his opposition, who overreact to everything he does and go to ridiculous extremes because he violates the norms they claim (and often do) hold so dear. Liberals will go to the mat to defend wife-beating, human-trafficking MS-13 members rather than agree with Trump on anything, and that reveals them to be insane. . . . Trolling the liberals keeps his base excited, not so much because they love the trolls–some do, some don’t–but we can all unify in defending Trump against the insane attacks. The hypocrisy of the left keeps getting exposed, and the trolling Trump does keep the liberals in a perpetual state of lighting their hair on fire.

    Also, it’s funny

Here is something that I can support instead of Alcatraz.

“President Trump announced his first judicial nominee of his second term, kicking off what will be a historic next four years as he continues to build on the most consequential accomplishment of his first term by appointing even more bold and fearless judges. The stakes could not be higher as Democrat activist judges are actively sabotaging American voters, the presidency, our Constitution, and our country.

Trump nominated Whitney Hermandorfer to a Tennessee-based seat on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit. She is a brilliant legal mind and committed constitutionalist who has litigated critical First Amendment issues. Trump’s first nomination stands in stark contrast to the Obama- and Biden-appointed Democrat activist judges who have repeatedly attempted to sabotage the president’s core Article II executive powers during these first months of Trump’s historic second term. These anti-American judges, who side with Hamas supporters, MS-13 gang members, and no-show federal bureaucrats leeching on the taxpayer, need to be countered. Trump’s nominees promise a return to the original vision of a judiciary grounded in constitutionalism and judicial restraint.”

Worked with Congress to save the Social Security system. (You will start to see a pattern.)

Worked with Congress to reduce illegal immigration by criminalizing knowingly hiring those in the country illegally; provided amnesty for 3 million illegally in the US.

Put in place the so-called Reagan antitrust guidelines, which worked flawlessly until Clinton screwed them up several years later.

Worked with Congress to cut the top marginal rate from 50% to 30%.

Due to the tax cuts, presided over a long-running boom in economic activity.

  100. Things Trump is doing right in his second term:

Closing the border (Oh, I forgot about Remain in Mexico policy – a major Trump success in his first term.)

DOGE – keep the cuts coming!

Embargo-level tariffs on China. Also telling the truth about China stealing all of our technology.

Rescinding many previous Executive Orders, especially Biden’s environmental ones and LBJ’s EO 11246.

Things Trump is doing wrong in his second term:

Tariff policy with everyone else except China.

Trying to boss around GOP leaders in the House and Senate, rather than working productively with them.

Meddling with the Fed (although most Presidents do that)

Not taking steps to work with Democrats on anything – even those things for which he will need their help – Social Security for example.

His idiotic suggestions of the day, which too many people here take seriously. Greenland, birtright citizenship, running for Pope, raising tariffs on movies.

Bitter & Jason – have I missed anything important?”

I give him credit for a couple more wins:

Energy policy made US energy independent- huge.

    Deregulation.

Conservative judges for the Federal bench (thank McConnell too)

    Decimated ISIS

    Killed Iranian terrorist general

    His biggest mistake:

    Sessions for AG.

Had he not given Sessions the bone for being the first Senator to support him and who stupidly recused himself, we would not have had the Mueller investigation which effectively kneecapped most of Trump’s term.

Also not fully supporting Perdue and Loeffler, which cost the GOP the senate and hence the 3 trillion dollar infrastructure boondoggle and all the Marxist judges Biden appointed.

    Those were two horrible mistakes.

    Remarkable achievement.

They are not, but what is interesting is that even though the Cultists hate Reagan, at the same time they are jealous of his conservative icon status and thus feel compelled to compare Trump to him.

Some perverted type of penis envy I guess.

    3. My son’s in-laws made a special point to tell me that they LOVED reading your book, “Run It Out” and had high praise for it. AND that they gave the book to others to read, who gave it to others to read ( I think there were 3 others) and they all REALLY ENJOYED READING your book.
