Interesting story…some years ago now…
My wife’s sister married a fellow with the last name Walton. They opened a restaurant/general store in Powhatan VA with the name of Walton’s Cracker Barrel. Operated it for a number of years. Then, they were notified by Cracker Barrel that they had to change the name of the store. Led to lots of legal wrangling.

I believe that I have eaten at the Barrel twice in my lifetime but am not certain. Once for sure when driving up 95 from Orlando to DC in October of 2005, either in Georgia or South Carolina. I had the chicken fried steak. And perhaps once more in 1997 whilst at “A” School in Great Lake (northern Illinois or Wisconsin). I don’t recall being particularly impressed.

I visited Florida years ago and had dinner with my family @ the Cracker Barrel. It was not a positive memorable experience. Of course fast food and boring food just doesn’t appeal to me – the Barrel belongs to the boring category of restaurants.

Trump appears to be mulling over the option of stepping back and “doing nothing” more for the Ukraine/Russian War. Word coming back from the recent meeting between European leaders and Trump is they have little to nothing to offer other than words – depending on the US to do the heavy lifting in supplying weapons, money, man power and security guarantees. If the US really steps away the war would end, with Zelenskyy and Putin solving their own problems. This again would reflect what 69% of Ukrainians now seek to happen.

Putin has never been absolved from invading Ukraine. However, continuing a war involves more than one aggressor. There are more people, other than the primary one (Putin), who have fueled and also profited off this war. The real losers are those who had to involuntarily fight for it and who have suffered under it.

John Kerry and Boris Johnson were key players in wanting this war to continue. Zelenskyy likes the attention of being courted by world leaders, seeing an advantage of keeping the money flowing into Ukraine, and his own presidential powers in place as long as he can cite a continuing war. The people of Ukraine, though, want it to end and have begin protesting to make this happen. Why there are those here who are so blinded by their support for this war, and lack of empathy for the people being devastated by it, is myopic and ludicrous..

Lee resigned from the Army before joining the confederacy. He was philosophically opposed to slavery and didn’t want the South to secede. He called secession “nothing short of a revolution” and unconstitutional. Yet he felt his first loyalty was to Virginia and that governed his actions. After the war, he endeavored to unite the country again.
He was a brilliant soldier and tactician.
He was misguided and on the wrong side.
All can be true.
When offered a role as major general to defend Washington he said:
“Mr. Blair, I look upon secession as anarchy. If I owned the four millions of slaves in the South I would sacrifice them all to the Union; but how can I draw my sword upon Virginia, my native state”

There was nothing honorable about him and pretending otherwise is lost cause nonsense. He should have been hanged along with Davis. I don’t care if Union officers went soft and didn’t want him executed.
I am just glad that he lived long enough to see his property seized for Arlington Cemetery.
I don’t believe in tearing down statues but no statue of him should have ever been erected. Lee is no different than any other enemy of America.

I don’t agree. Not every military man is necessarily defending whatever political rationale that puts him in a war. Not every German general in WWII believed in Nazi ideals, many were just fighting for their country.
There were plenty of honorable people on the confederate side.
I think Lee was an honorable man. As president of Washington and Lee after the war, he worked to promote reconciliation.
He was on the wrong side.But I don’t hold it against him that he was competent as a military leader.
