“The Secret Service was moving forward with renewing former Director Kimberly Cheatle’s top-level security clearance but reversed course after RealClearPolitics inquired about a key senator’s opposition, according to multiple sources in the Secret Service community.

Sen. Ron Johnson, a Wisconsin Republican who chairs the Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations and previously chaired the full Homeland Security panel, argued that Cheatle should not have her security clearance renewed after her leadership decisions contributed to the agency’s numerous failures surrounding the assassination attempt against Donald Trump in Butler, Pennsylvania.

“Following the security debacle in Butler, the former director of USSS made the right decision to resign,” Johnson told RCP. “I see no reason for her security clearance to be reinstated.”

Why would someone who resigned and is no longer employed by the SS and has no role in its operations still need a “security clearance”.

Regardless of how competent she was or wasn’t.

    So wait.

The TX Democrats protesting gerrymandering go to Illinois where Rs get 45% of the vote and the congressional delegation is 14-3.

IL is probably the most gerrymandered state in the union.

Rs get over 40% of the vote and have 17% of the seats.

  9. Estimate for son’s car low front end damage: (car still drivable)

$6,400+. Hardly any VISIBLE damage from outside. no headlights or fog lights broken. No airbags deployed. And he still drove the car for many weeks…until it has watrning lights come on and low power and have to pull over to let it rest a while and then go back down the road. repeat.

He is paying $200 to Progressive Ins. a month for car insurance with a $2,000 deductibleR

Honest car repair place said it would cost $490 to repair down low and unseen radiator, etc. damage. BUT they said the car needs to go to body shop to do repairs because everything was pushed back and they could not get their tools and hands in to do the repair work. That $490 would be included in whatever cost a body shop did anyway.

It took one month to coerce son enough for him to call in a claim while the car was at the car repair shop.

    Claim finally filed.

Car towed to body shop. Progressive sends a claims agent a few days later to write up a damage estimate. Car sat at body shop for TWO MONTHS+ while we are dealing with Progressive insurance. They won’t tell me their damage estimate or if damage is less than $2000 (our deductible). They say they need to talk to driver (son) AGAIN about the accident/damage. Son says he already told them he hit a ditch. He will not call back.

My ins. agent is also getting frustrated dealing with that Progressive ins. Co. and they will not return her calls. I am ready to shoot myself, or someone.

  10. If anyone has a suggestion as to what my son might have hit to cause that damage please feel free to offer it up to me. I am clueless.

    Son says he hit a rut…. (?)

My view is that he could not possibly have hit another vehicle and then took off, because there is no outside evidence or damage other than very low below the headlights.

Could he have T-boned into a sidewalk at 30 miles an hour to cause that much low, unseen damage?

One company I googled on line and filled out all info said they would pay me $525.

Same company called me, asked the same questions I filled out on line and said they would pay me $300. They later said $400. Then later said $525.

Actually, forensics could disprove that since there is no damage visible below that horizontal line of damage. LIke he hit some sort of metal bar–like a metal farm gate that would have been laying down in the field, with one end (that he possibly could have hit?) somehow propped up a few inches above the ground and the other end of the gate was against a huge boulder so it would not move and he hit the gate at 10, 15 or 20 MPH??

    LORDY BE!

The ins. co. just called and said they will process and pay the claim.

If the repair for damages is 75% or more of the value they will total the car and pay me that, minus the $2000 deductible I guess.

Will know in a few days.

And then this long national (personal) nightmare will be over.

Then there will have to be the search for another car….yuck.

So that is a no fault accident….

But the ins. woman this afternoon said they are changing it from a no fault deer strike to a collision (of something unknown?) and that means that the driver was at fault.

  23. Tina,

About 5 or 6 years ago, I hit a deer on I-81 about 10 miles from home. We were going to a fancy shmancy high end VA resort for a weekend. I had slowed to about 55 MPH when I hit him.

Hit the deer in front of car–biggest buck I had ever seen, and it somersaulted over the car onto pavement behind car. Not dead.

Called police. Deer was crawling through media and then onto (and eventually across) the two N bound lanes. I was trying to get the trucks, etc. to slow down, etc. Deer crawled to the right berm of the NB lanes. Someone in a pickup pulled over where the deer was. I thought it was someone who was going to dispatch the deer. Turns out he did, and then sawed the horns off, jumped in his truck and took off. Called police again. They more or less said they don’t have time to fool with it. Is the vehicle still drivable? Yes. Then go on your way and file an insurance report.

We continued the couple hundred mile trip with the hood bungee corded down. No problems.

The repair cost was $4.500 for our 5 year old Subaru Outback. Grill, bumper and hood damage only.

I don’t think the deer lived. No airbag deployed. I was in a van. The cops just asked where the deer was. Technically I was in between two counties, Napa and Solano. So I don’t know which animal control took the lead.
