“The terms Ukraine and government corruption are synonymous regardless of who is funding the schemes. After Volodymyr Zelenskyy grabbed more power by stripping two key anti-corruption agencies, the National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SAP), of their independence, protests erupted.
European leaders immediately noticed the intent of the power move and threatened Zelenskyy with a withdrawal of support. The current dictatorship of Zelensky and his small team then quickly reversed course. However, the damage is done, and once again Ukranian corruption is center stage.”
https://theconservativetreehouse.com/blog/2025/07/29/zelenskyy-on-ropes-ukranian-regime-grabs-more-authoritarian-power-then-backtracks-when-protests-erupt/
Besides losing support from European leaders Zelenskyy’s move to get rid of anti-corruption agencies also sparked large street protests by the Ukrainian people. While Putin is an acknowledged dictator, Zelenskyy is a want-to-be dictator who can still be removed by Ukrainians revolting against him, which is mainly why he backtracked on his removal of NABU and SAP. His hero mask, nevertheless, has slipped, except for fools who have invested too much ego in seeing him as another Churchill.

So what have I missed the last week?
I wanted to touch on these ridiculous tarriffs, because for anyone who doesn’t think these will reach the American consumer, you are wrong.
For instance. A new secure phone that I know is coming out shortly, (which by the way destroys that Liberty phone that sells for $1999 and is garbabe) which will now have to either raise its price by $100 a phone…or the owners of that company will have to cut their profit margin by nearly 40%
Which do you think will happen. So with that I finally figured out what these tarriffs are. A tax hike without having to call it a tax hike, but this tax bill will be paid by all Americans.

Vic, you need to understand the new FLA2025 economic theory.
Faced with higher costs, companies do NOT pass them on to customers, they “eat them”.
According to him, this has no effect on prices, profits, investments, sales, marketing, etc.
It is incredible that this novel theory wasn’t discovered before, up to now people thought higher costs translated to higher prices, loss of competitiveness, lower profits, etc.
I am thinking of returning to business school to get myself updated on these new concepts and to better understand “aggregate impact”.

The tariffs are not only rebalancing unfair trade policies between most countries, but is also opening up markets abroad to accepting many of our products that have been blocked from being exported to these countries. Basically, trade between countries is being realigned so the US won’t always be the one holding the bag of deficits while others continue to bask in surpluses.

The actual truth being when nixon took the us off the gold standard the dollar had massive devaluation so the fed and nixon admin had central banks around the world print like mad in order to devalue in proportion to the dollar (to mask the dollar devaluing against hard assets) Hence what was happening was actually like post covid when every bank was printing but the dxy was somewhat stable while there was massive world wide inflation. However the actual goal of the 70’s inflation was to buy time until brenton woods 2 could be established w the petro dollar system. Once that was in place the dollar strengthened again and no need to do world wide money printer.
In many ways the early 70’s inflation was a mirror image of post covid world wide money printer plan

Hi Walt. Yes. The current housing market situation is actually supportive of a cut. The GDP numbers show the economy humming along well at the current Fed funds rate, so that can be interpreted as dispositive for a cut. Wages stabilizing – positive, current employment data – neutral . As you can see, it’s all a mixed bag. That’s why the market is betting on no action today. The NYT is not happy. They give a blueprint for what Powell will probably say in his presser.
“Economic growth softened in the first half of the year, as tariffs and uncertainty upended business plans and scrambled consumers’ spending decisions.
Gross domestic product, adjusted for inflation, increased at a 3 percent annual rate in the second quarter, the Commerce Department said on Wednesday. That topped forecasters’ expectations and appeared to represent a strong rebound from the first three months of the year, when output contracted at a 0.5 percent rate.
But both those figures were skewed — in opposite directions — by big swings in trade and inventories caused by President Trump’s ever-shifting tariff policies. Taken as a whole, the data from the first six months of the year tell a more consistent story of anemic, though positive, economic growth.
Many forecasters expect a further deterioration in the months ahead, as tariffs work their way through supply chains, federal job cuts filter through the economy and stricter immigration policies take a toll on industries that rely on foreign-born workers.”
They are right that huge inventories were built up in anticipation of tariffs and that the full effect of the misguided tariff policies have not been felt yet. But again, there are offsetting factors that could mitigate that.
Federal job cuts? Zzzzzz….. not too sure how they affect the “economy”, many of these people got buyouts, they will continue to spend. And we are talking at most a few hundred thousand, not millions.
“Foreign born workers”… I guess this means illegals. I am a foreign born worker. I am skeptical of the impact, most illegals will still be working. And while some businesses that employ them might now face higher costs, this could affect inflation (labor costs passed on to consumers) I don’t think it will have a big impact on GDP.

LOl! The NYTs spins away. This is an often repeated statement in the media but take it with a grain of salt. That doesn’t mean that some specific manufacturers didn’t run up inventories, just that, in the aggregate, there were no material spikes to justify delayed tariff effects.
for examples of data to support this, go here –
https://www.census.gov/economic-indicators/
and scroll down to retail, business, and wholesale inventories and note the lack of any spikes. Moreover, go to advance retail/wholesale inventories as well and you will see the same. I would post to the specific charts, but it’s just as easy for anyone to click on the link and go to them. If you go to the FRED website, you can pull the Fed charts, which measure inventories slightly different, and you will see the same.

Zzzz……. drivel and garbage from Mr. Protectionist Isolationist.
A lot of the tariffs only kicked in recently, they were delayed several times some won’t happen until August.
And of course, nobody is discussing the “aggregate: here, what a load of crap.
The inventories were built up specifically with imports from countries the importers viewed as likely to have tariffs imposed. Plus, the “pipeline” for these products is months in the making, so there was a lot of stuff throughout the supply chain (and there still is). The lead time for products from Asia are often as long as 6 months, sometimes longer.
So the fact is that the NYT, which is often wrong, is actually correct in stating we have not seen the full impact of tariffs yet.

They are constantly berated as the bane of society. Meanwhile, Democrats spend much of their energy trying to appeal to mentally ill people who believe they can change their sex and purple-haired women who screech about fascism on TikTok.
The reality of the situation for Democrats is simple, and they don’t need to pay consultants to figure it out. You can not have a party that caters to the worst excesses of the far left while also appealing to the majority of young men. It’s not a solvable equation, and unwittingly, this focus group and the way it’s framed show that.
Past that, when Barack Obama is your party’s only “masculine” role model, you’ve got issues. “

Sorry, the Internet is forever.
All your posts trying to justify your protectionist isolationist dogmas have the same memes.
Tariffs have no effect on prices.
Tariffs get “eaten” by exporters so they are irrelevant.
Tariffs are not a tax on consumers.
Tariffs have no effect on prices, profits, investments, demand.
Of course, they are all FALSE premises, they all violate the basic laws of economics, they all demonstrate deep ignorance and stupidity, but post after post, the certified imbecile doubles down on them.
Again, I don’t care if FLA2025 is a committed protectionist and isolationist who hates free trade and international commerce. Fine with me.

But even that was not enough for the protectionist moron, who cannot accept ANY criticism of Trump’s trade policies, you have to be 100% onboard in your hatred of free trade and your undying admiration for tariffs and trade wars.
Bullshit baffles brains.

You would think FLA2025 would thank me for promising to send him a new kiddie pool if he wins the Nobel Prize for Economics for his “original” theory revolutionizing the basic laws of economics.
I even said that if it does happen, I will admit I was wrong, will go out and shoot a crow and eat it.
Ungrateful bastard.

post the specific statements village idiot, not your false interpretation. You will see what I’ve posted is exactly as I stated above. I know English is tough for you, just like economics, but you are not accurately summarizing what I written.
here’s a refresher. I’ve bolted the key part that you’ll see in my prior posts – I’ve never posted that tariff’s are “never” reflected in higher prices, lower profits or lower demand, just that whether they are and the magnitude of that impact is dependent are numerous factors that I’ve previously listed and that the 2025 tariffs , which have had enough time to impact the economy, have not yet had a material impact on prices, profits, and demand. In fact, I am pretty sure I’ve posted data that shows some slight tariff effect pushing up monthly CPI, but as I said when I made the post, it is not material as of now.

But here is the deal, they always apply.

Here is the deal.
You are free to believe philosophically in economic protectionism and isolationism, just like I philosophically believe in free trade and free markets.
But I am always going to challenge any attempt to pretend there are no consequences or effects of economic protectionism and isolationism.
Get used to it or GFY, I don’t care which.

so if I’m reading Jason the village idiot correctly, he thinks that instigator tariffs will ALWAYS be reflected in consumer pricing and have a negative effect on aggregate supply and demand . Interesting. Not only is that not consistent with basic economic theory, but kind of erases what happened during Trump’s first term . No, whether they are and the magnitude of that impact is dependent are numerous factors that I’ve previously listed . we’ll just have to agree to disagree, village idiot.
This is getting tedious. Sorry to all the other HHR posters for getting the thread derailed.

That’s one of the horrific stories I read today. Another was about a Cincinnati Ohio councilwoman who posted her appreciation for the gang of blacks who beat the white man/woman, saying they deserved it.

UPDATE: THE FEDERAL RESERVE chose not to cut interest rates… ….but Jerome Powell and the board’s decision was DISSENTED by Fed Governors Waller and Bowman in favor of an interest rate cut. This is a RARE time 2 governors dissent. Not since 1993. THEY WERE CORRECT. But because they’re the minority, we are wasting hundreds of billions.

It’s a political competition Tina. Both want to be Fed chairman and curry favor w Pedofuhrer.
Hence if one dissents, then the other has to dissent.
