I saw something interesting in that link Bitter posted.

Look at the photo of the interior of the cabin, second one down.

It looks like the tops of the bunks were not flooded, there are still pictures with tape that look undamaged, and the sheets don’t look wet.

Not sure what demographic will be attracted to Musk’s new party.

Never Trumpers are essentially Democrats now, and hate DOGE too.

I don’t see him as a new Ross Perot because Perot’s strength was his personality and his status as a candidate, his party was irrelevant.

Third parties are traditionally weak in America, and they only break through somehat when they have a “name” to lead them (Anderson, Wallace, Perot, Nader, etc.)

Since Musk is not running himself (not even eligible) I think his party is destined to be on the fringe.

Having said that, he has virtually unlimited funds, so maybe that will be the difference.

Unfortunately I think that Musk’s goal is to hurt Trump in the mid-terms to get back at him, and given the scant margins of victory in many races, just stealing away the Pauliacs that will follow him (because he’s essentially an offshoot of that movement. Kill the government, cut all services, legalized drugs, no oversight, no one to tell them what to do) to have an effect on the races.

It’s also a giant temper tantrum and to try and show he is more powerful than the President of the United States.

Both the democrat and Republican parties have reconstituted themselves into something different from their old selves. The Dems have embraced a more Marxist ideology, based on being dependent and obedient to a more centralized intolerant type of governance. Republicans, in contrast, detest too much bureaucracy, constraints on their freedoms, rules and regulations, appealing more to those wanting to run their own lives. The demographics have also radically changed with the working, middle classes of all nationalities voting in bigger quantities for Republican, while the elite, well educated, Wall Street types are shifting over to the Dems. The anti-Trump contingencies fall more into the dem camp now, and IMO there they will stay in the near future.

In the beginning Musk was like an intern-in-training, learning what executive power and privilege was all about. He literally was seen with Trump everywhere he went. However, once the magic of internship faded I think he wanted more of what Trump has – international power and prestige. Opposing the BBB I think was more a vehicle to step away from Trump and try seizing some political power and a following for himself.

The irony is that many of those who died there would have been gone that afternoon back home, the camp at maybe 20% capacity and a new group coming in Saturday morning (Friday is transition day).

It’s very somber here right now

    Like

  72. Mike…with regards to cutting the budget, the biggest cut to the budget would come from interest rates going down. This fiscal year, interest on the debt is $774B. Yes, you read that correctly. We could gut every entitlement program there is and won’t come close to matching what could be done by Powell lowering rates.

It’s one reason he keeps it so high. Political. Keeping it high reflects back on the interest, which reflects badly on the administration. A cut of 100 basis points would cut the deficit $180B… let that sink in.

No way to cut that much from the federal government, especially that fast. I realize that a lot of Trump supporters think that we are going to be able to gut the federal government with no ancillary effects on the country…just a bunch of bloated fed govt employees without jobs, but it doesn’t work that way.

We are a nation of 325M people, not 2.5M at the time of the revolution. Governing that many people is a gargantuan job. Any change to the way we operate is going to have to be scaled over time, and will most likely come in not increasing year over year the budgets of agencies, programs, etc, not cutting.

That’s reality folks. I know some won’t like it

Trump should take the opportunity to do immigration reform, not because of the midterms but because he has the power to do it.

He should issue work permits to the Dreamers that are crime free and offer them a path to citizenship if they serve in the military for at least 3 years or are gainfully employed for 5 years.

He should issue work permits to those that have been here for over 10 years with a clean record and can show they have worked and paid taxes. After 5 years gainfully employed and crime free they would get green cards.

At the current pace in 4 years Trump will be lucky if he can get 2 million deported. That is only 10% of the 20 million. So while he has successfully closed the border, the deportation effort is a lot more complicated. And we are only 1 election away from open borders again.

Deportations should be concentrated on the most recent arrivals, criminals, and those already with deportation orders. There are several million illegals in that situation.

If you want to call that amnesty, go ahead. I call it winning after decades of losing.

All about trying to sway and more or less telling you what you should believe and how you should think. Very big push to hit your emotional triggers to maneuver you to think and act a certain way.
