There was no way to live “peacefully”. The story of more “advanced” cultures overwhelming/displacing less advanced ones happened thousands of times throughout human history all over the globe, such as what happened to the Neanderthals.

The Incas “colonized” most of South America before they were in turn colonized.

It is something akin to “if we didn’t eat meat” there would millions of food animals grazing peacefully everywhere. Not realistic.

Native Americans could not coexist peacefully with the white settlers because they couldn’t compete for resources and land in technology and in numbers.

It is not to say there weren’t terrible things done to Native Americans in the process. But the idea that the Native American culture could have survived side by side with the white settler culture if only they had been “nicer to the Indians” is hogwash.

In Brazil, the government created large reservations as late as the mid 20th century to protect native tribes. In many cases the tribes themselves started selling lumber and destroying their land, or allowing for mining ventures that polluted it, rather than continuing to live in their traditional manner. With modern weapons and fishing techniques they over hunted and over fished their land. They did it because they wanted the things they saw the whites had, and the tribal leaders started buying motor boats and airplanes and trucks. In other words, the two systems could not coexist side by side.

The Amish are an example of a culture that refuses to be “colonized”. They resist the temptation of modern technology for transportation and for their farms.

But even so, they are not immunized from the majority culture. Their buggies are frequently hit by cars, and the government constantly seeks to interfere with their businesses and farms. They lose many members who decide to live a different life.

And even the Amish are “evolving”. They don’t drive, but they now they can be driven around if they can justify it is needed for their business. There are quite a few people making a living being chaffeurs for the Amish. They can’t use electricity but they can use battery operated wheelchairs and elevators and other health devices if approved by the deacon. They no longer live in a barter society, most of them depend on the English to buy their products to survive.

NYT admits employees at the FBI had “ties to the administration”?

Reminds me of the Cultists here, who decried the federal agencies were politicized under Biden while clamoring for them to be politicized under Trump.

“Taken together, the moves are causing worrisome upheaval at the F.B.I., eliciting fear and uncertainty as Mr. Patel and his deputy, Dan Bongino, quickly restock senior ranks with agents and turn the agency’s attention to immigration. Their persistent claims that the bureau was politicized under previous directors, in addition to their swift actions against colleagues, have left employees to wonder whether they, too, will be ousted, either because they worked on an investigation vilified by Trump supporters or had ties to the previous administration.”

Yep, the Indians have made huge fortunes with casinos. It is a huge racket, the Indians are entitled to open casinos and venture groups fund it, everyone makes out like bandits.

There are tribes that were basically extinct but if you have as much Indian blood as Senator Fauxcahontas you can start a casino.

The biggest casino in America, Foxwoods in Connecticut, is run by the Mashantucket Pequot tribe. How many Manshantucket Pequots you think are left, considering most were exterminated/displaced/absorbed as early as the 1630’s?

“Other tribes, like the Mashantucket Pequot, prioritize proving lineage through documented ancestry from recognized families within the tribe. The Mashantucket Pequot Tribe bases membership on direct lineal descent from specific families listed in the 1900 US census.”

Unfortunately, Ukraine does have a history of pogroms against Jews and the massacre of Poles in Volhynia did happen.

Of course, Chicon supports Russia, no stranger to genocide.

“The Katyn massacre was a series of mass executions of nearly 22,000 Polish military and police officers, border guards, and intelligentsia prisoners of war carried out by the Soviet Union, specifically the NKVD (the Soviet secret police), at Joseph Stalin‘s order in April and May 1940. Though the killings also occurred in the Kalinin and Kharkiv NKVD prisons and elsewhere, the massacre is named after the Katyn forest, where some of the mass graves were first discovered by Nazi German forces in 1943.

The massacre is qualified as a crime against humanity, crime against peace, war crime[and (within the Polish Penal Code) a Communist crime.According to a 2009 resolution of the Polish parliament’s Sejm, it bears the hallmarks of a genocide.”

What it means in a nutshell.

“As Poland’s new president, Nawrocki is likely to continue to use his presidential power of veto to block Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk’s pro-EU programme.

The result is also likely to re-energise Nawrocki’s supporters, the national conservative Law and Justice (PiS) opposition, which lost power eighteen months ago, giving them renewed belief they will be able to defeat Tusk’s coalition in 2027 parliamentary elections.

Nawrocki supports traditional Catholic and family values and is a strong supporter of Polish sovereignty within the EU.

To be fair, if it was a Pride March and the marchers were attack with a flame thrower by a guy wearing a MAGA hat they would have the same reaction, right?

  92. Zelenskyy went to the peace meeting in Turkey, gloating about the success of his drone mission, and asking for more arms. The meeting lasted 30 minutes, as there was little to discuss. While there are those thrilled Russia is finally getting deserved pushback, the objective of creating some kind of peaceful negotiation seems more remote. In fact, whether it’s Russia sending super sonic missiles into Kiev, or Ukraine employing a surprise attack on Russia’s bomber planes, the escalation of the war seems more on track to go global rather than being contained to a territorial one.

    janzam is on suicide watch?

I know the successful Ukrainian attack on Russian military targets was a huge blow to her.

But note that Putin’s Nurse, a despicable excuse for a human being, does not differentiate between Russia’s supersonic missiles against civilian targets just designed to instill terror by killing innocent people and Ukraine’s attack on strictly military objectives, designed to lessen Russia’s capability to bomb civilian targets.

It’s no surprise janzam thinks there is some kind of moral equivalency in the two attacks.

In the end, she is just triggered that Ukraine is fighting back against her iconic hero Putin.

The meeting lasted 30 minutes, as there was little to discuss.”

And the reason there is little to discuss is that Russia made the usual demand: unilateral surrender.

Small detail janzam “forgot” to mention.

At the Istanbul meeting on June 2, 2025, Russia presented its peace demands, which included Kyiv renouncing its desire for reparations, international recognition of five parts of Ukraine as Russian, and for Ukraine to become a neutral state. These demands are consistent with Russia’s previous statements regarding addressing the “root causes” of the conflict, including limiting Ukraine’s military and preventing NATO expansion”

None of these “demands” should be acceptable to anyone who is not a Putin toady.

Ukraine is no threat to Russia. So the only reason to “limit Ukraine’s military” is so Russia can invade without consequence anytime it wants.

  104. There’s a war between Russia and Ukraine. It was started by Russia. The drone attack by Ukraine against Russian bombers hampers Russia’s ability to launch air-launched missiles into civilian and military targets. That’s what they’re supposed to do.

Regarding the “negotiations”…. Vlad isn’t ready to quit. This is because he’s winning (and perhaps because it could be dangerous to his life to take what looks like a loss). He needs to be MADE to believe it is Russia’s interests to reach a deal (he won’t reach a deal that he can’t portray as a win at home). The drone attack helps that effort.

As explained ad nauseum to Bitter and Jason, an endless dribble of weapons and money from America to Ukraine ain’t a plan and won’t be tolerated here for long. Trump is likely to put crippling sanctions on Russia, along with huge shipments of real weapons with no strings attached. Then we’ll see if Vlad wants to talk.

What rhetorical nonsense! Neither Putin nor Zelenskyy have anything to brag about, in lieu of so many people on both sides dying because of their stubborn leadership. You must like war, Bitter. I don’t, especially one that could have been resolved a long time ago. In the meantime Putin lost a percentage of his planes, while the majority remain intact. What does a wounded animal do after he has been attacked? That’s a question that has yet to be answered by Putin as to the recourse he will take. But he will retaliate.
