TDS is really a horrible, life destroying disease.

‘Nathan Vilas Laatsch, a 28-year-old IT specialist with Top Secret clearance for his role at the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA), has been arrested for attempting to turn over classified military intelligence to a foreign nation.

The reason he was willing to commit such an alleged crime is pure TDS – He finds the current administration to be “extremely disturbing.”

It’s something when your mental frailties prompt you to engage in treasonous conduct and betray your country.

Laatsch, according to court documents, sent an email to whom he believed to be a foreign official but was, in fact, an FBI agent, saying, “The recent actions of the current administration are extremely disturbing to me.”

“I do not agree or align with the values of this administration and intend to act to support the values that the United States at one time stood for.”

Prompted by that disagreement, Laatsch on two occasions transcribed classified material into a notebook, transferred the information to a document on a thumb drive, then dropped the drive at a location presumably to be retrieved by the foreign government.”

  15. U.S. trade deficit in goods plummets in April, pointing to higher GDP in second quarter

The U.S. trade deficit in goods narrowed 46% to $87.6 billion in April from a record $162.3 billion in March, according to the Commerce Department’s advanced estimate released Friday.

After stockpiling consumer goods in the first quarter to avoid expected tariffs, firms essentially stopped importing goods in April.

The deficit was much narrower than the $143 billion deficit forecasted by economists according to an Econoday survey.

Falling imports will boost GDP growth in the second quarter.

This is breaking news. Check back for updates here.

The decision is a near-term victory for President Donald Trump  as he moves to crack down on border security and immigration priorities in his second term.

The Supreme Court decision stays, for now, a lower court ruling that halted Trump’s plans to terminate Temporary Protected Status (TPS) protections for some migrants living in the U.S., which allows individuals to live and work in the U.S. legally if they cannot work safely in their home country due to a disaster, armed conflict or other “extraordinary and temporary conditions.”

    ————-

Hey Bitter, here’s the list.  Keep in mind over 40% of our imports come from China, Mexico, and Canada, where tariffs have been implemented and as of May 8, 2025, the U.S. Treasury Department reportedly collected $46.6 billion in tariff revenue for the calendar year 2025.

    Implemented Tariffs:

    • Canada and Mexico: On March 4, 2025, tariffs of 25% on imports from Canada and Mexico were implemented, with a 10% tariff on Canadian energy, under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA) to address drug trafficking and national security concerns.
    • China: A 10% tariff on Chinese imports was imposed on February 4, 2025, which increased to 20% in March and later to 54% (and up to 125% or 245% with additional reciprocal and fentanyl-related tariffs) by April 9, 2025, though some adjustments were made.
    • Steel and Aluminum: On February 11, 2025, Trump reinstated a full 25% tariff on steel imports and increased aluminum tariffs to 25%, closing loopholes and exemptions from his first term.
    • Reciprocal Tariffs (“Liberation Day”): These were paused for most countries (except China) for 90 days starting April 9, 2025.

I do know that our local daily newspaper (circulation plummeting) has practically no news reporters (I think they have maybe 2 or 3 now) and know for a fact that many of their local stories they print are typed up and submitted by various organizations and groups and they do get printed in the newspaper.

Almost NO local stories are printed that are the result of local news reporters going out, finding the practically no local newspaper stories about car wrecks, fires, etc. They DO print a list of police calls that happened on a certain day –9:33 p.m Welfare check on Raleigh Street”). They also on SOME days list all the ambulance runs (“7:28a.m.–ambulance call for heart attack on Short Road”). Back in the day, when I was a student or a school teacher and ran off the road and went through a fence, there was a couple paragraph news story about that, giving a narrative of what happened. NOW they only actually do a news story about a vehicle accident if it kills someone or ties up traffic for 4 or 5 hours and shuts down the interstate highway.

On the sports page, they USED to put all the boxscores in for local HS basketball and baseball games AND put box scores in for all major league baseball games–but they have not done that for the last few decades.

The local paper DOES every month publish a long list of property transfers (“Joe and Mary Doe sold house on King Street for $450,000 to Bill and Sue Smith, etc.”) They go get the list from the court house and print it. Easy peasy.

    _______________

They DO publish in the classified ads section (as required by law) the many millions of dollars figures for the budgets for next year for

–county governments (n a shole page of numbers)

    –county school boards (i.e. for count school system: several pages of $ XXX for supplies, $ XXX for building maintenance, $ XXX for food service, cooks, $ XXX for bus transportation, $ XXX special education, etc.}

–municipalities (a whole page of numbers)

BUT there is never any news article that gives any narrative to how this budget compares to the previous year, what are the biggest increases or decreases, etc., etc. or explains any discussion held by the elected officials about the ins and outs and details.

And perish the thought if the local news reporter would go out and do research on and publish what housing costs and property taxes were in surrounding counties next to us in VA and MD are as compared to here…Or contact 6 other counties around us to find out many teacher shortages THEY have now or project for NEXT year…or do stories about the teacher salaries in those counties as compared to ours…etc. Or go to the County Clerk’s office to get the facts and figures and publish on what they have done to clean up voter registration rolls…

Sometimes, they DO actually send a reporter to sit through a county or School board, or city council meeting and do a little (couple paragraphs) write-up of what went on. But it is usually very lacking in detail and does not give the reading public any vital info or understanding…

They DO print a list of the indictments handed down by the grand juries in the local counties and who was arrested and what the charges were. BTW, of the 79 indictments handed down in Berkeley County 33 were for illegal drugs and 6 more for DUI (which could be due to either alcohol or various illegal drugs). Plums how many of the other crimes have anunderlying drug issues that led to that crime…?

    —————

Since last years numbers were pretty high for March and April, comparing this year to last year might paint a misleading picture.  Looking at the change from month to month shows a 0.03 percentage point increase in core PCE from March 2025 to April 2025 (it also slightly increased from Feb to March). This is why the Fed is hesitant to drop rates right now. It is waiting to see if this trend accelerates or decelerates.

Looking further at this monthly change (not the year over year change being touted today), the slight acceleration in core PCE inflation was driven by factors such as rising durable goods prices (+0.48% MoM) and nondurable goods prices (+0.07% MoM), though tempered by a deceleration in core services inflation (+0.07% MoM).

Not that it matters, of course, the important thing is that Bitter is well.

Bunu’s racist scumbag hero shut of graduation ceremonies at MIT.

“Jewish students stormed out of their graduation ceremony Thursday after a Massachusetts Institute of Technology commencement speaker accused the prestigious institution of supporting the erasure of “Palestine from the face of the Earth.”

Megha M. Vemuri, president of the Class of 2025, sparked a mixture of boos and cheers as she started her controversial speech praising her classmates for protesting Israel immediately after Hamas launched a deadly terrorist attack on the Jewish state on Oct. 7, 2023.

Vemuri’s contentious remarks led to her being barred from attending Friday’s undergraduate ceremony, an MIT spokesperson told Fox News Digital, noting that the speech she delivered was not the version submitted in advance to university officials.

“MIT supports free expression but stands by its decision, which was in response to the individual deliberately and repeatedly misleading Commencement organizers and leading a protest from the stage, disrupting an important Institute ceremony,” the university said in a statement.

One Israeli graduate told the outlet that all the Jewish families — “not only the Israelis” — walked out of what was supposed to be a happy occasion.

“All of our families came from far to see the ceremony and were extremely disappointed,” the disheartened grad said.”

Gov. Josh Shapiro (D-PA) said the deal between US Steel and Nippon Steel announced last Friday by President Donald Trump is a game changer on multiple levels.

“It is a BFD [big f***ing deal],” a smiling Shapiro told the Washington Examiner, emphasizing that the deal will not only affect the entire steel industry but also stabilize and reinvigorate the region.”

Zzzzz…. he supports it because the union supports it.

And he should be careful, he could get cancelled for giving interviews to the Washington Examiner.

Sorry about you getting sick. Glad the doctors are on it.

On our Scotland trip 3 or 4 people got real sick and missed dinners. Throwing up. My wife and I were fine the whole trip.

Plus one gal fell real hard and hit her head on the last day there.

Re the sensationalist article posted above.

Stanford research projects that if vaccinations dip by just five percent, the case count of measles could jump to 5.7 million with 2,550 deaths over the next 25 years

Wow, I think more people will die of lightning strikes than that.

Certainly more will die from crocodile and hippo attacks.

“Accounts recording the number of human deaths per year by hippo attack range from about 500 to about 3,000.”

In the next 25 years between 25,000 and 75,000 people will be killed by hippos.

But we need to freak out about 100 deaths a year worldwide from measles.
