Maybe because I don’t have the same ear for English that a native speaker does, I really have trouble understanding “man of the street” Scottish English. If it is a newscast on TV I can get most of it, but two guys speaking at a pub next to me I might only get the gist of it.
Walt if you go to lower Scotland some still speak an “indigenous” language called Scots, classified as a Germanic language. You won’t get most of it, they say “madainn math” for good morning and “feasgar math” for good evening.
While Bitter and Walt tour Scotland and Ireland, I might go to downtown Bittersville today.
Bittersville is very diverse. Note a major Hispanic population.
“Diving into the demographics of Bittersville PA, we have a total of 1,275 people from all walks of life and ethnic backgrounds. Breaking it down, we’ve got 0.0% identifying as Black, 0.0% as Asian, and 3.8% as Hispanic and Latino. Not to forget, 0.0% are Pacific Islander, 1.9% are American Indians or Alaska Natives, and a good chunk of 92.6% identify as white. There’s also 0.0% of folks who fall under other races, and another 1.7% who proudly embrace two or more races.”
The young man and woman shot outside the Israeli embassy yesterday were going to become engaged when they went back to Israel. The man was a Christian in love with an Israeli girl. So sad…
Russ Vough, the Director of the OMB, was interviewed this morning after the passage of the BBB, He was able to clarify the reasoning behind how this bill was constructed making it seem better than it first appeared.
Toured Derry (Londonderry to the Protestants). I was surprised at how deep the anger is. We saw a Protestant area with murals that said they were under siege from the. Catholics. The tour guide said it must be difficult living in an upscale neighborhood able to come and go as they please. I think a beautiful country flooded with beer and whiskey should have worked it out by now.
I have not, nor will I ever l, try haggis. (And I do know what is in it.
In the shipbuilding yards at Glasgow is where they built the Queen Mary big passenger ship

I stumbled across a small enclave of Souix Indians wbo came to Scotland from the U.S. back in the 1930s. They put thin layers of wood on tables and other furniture they make and sell them.
The bill is headed to the Senate where it will be subject to various revisions, including SALT. Even though we personally benefit from SALT I think it should have been eliminated entirely. Some of the biggest controversial cuts were Medicaid and Snap, which will provide plenty of emotional media fodder to churn up against this bill. What the OMB is saying is how the GDP will be higher than expected because of higher revenue not included in their predictive calculations. This includes revenue from tariffs.
Our tour guide said that the Palestinian flags and Free Palestine signs on some homes were not meant to be anti-Semitic or pro-Hamas. He said the Irish have a history of being oppressed and identify with Palestinians.
According to the Daily Beast, both the Disney CEO and the ABC News President told The View to tone down their constant criticism of Trump and his administration.
And according to the meeting the panelists of The View just laughed and blew off the suggestion.
A person of Irish ancestry, I’m not saying that the Irish, especially in the “Old Country” have victimhood mentality but I believe there is some truth to it.
The Irish were victims of centuries of English oppression and subjugation. That does not justify trying to draw a fine line between Hamas and Palestinians. Both can be true.
Btw, if you think of Bittersville as sort of the end of the world….it is at least the end of the line.
“Bittersville was the end of a trolley line from York that went through the boroughs of Dallastown, Red Lion, and Windsor; with Windsor the originally intended terminus. The extension to Bittersville was to be the first leg of ultimately extending that trolley line to Long Level. The trolley reached Bittersville on August 3, 1907, but was never extended further.”
As an Anglophile and being of Irish descent, I am sad that Ireland separated from Great Britain. I know that the Catholics were badly treated for years. But, the Irish people would have been better had they stayed.
Being a smaller nation, it seems that they can take irresponsible positions because they know it won’t have any consequence.
I am also in the strange position of respecting England but also glad the Irish told it to F off. Except for those p*ssies in Northern Ireland. I can’t live another person’s struggle. The English truly treated the Irish with hatred and contempt. During the Famine, 1/3 died and another 1/3 fled. The English did little to help because most Irish were Catholics. That is tough to let go.
34 people on our tour in Scotland, 4 Canadians, about 8 or 10 people from Florida, a couple from MA, a couple from SC, 4 of us from WV, three women who went to high school together 50 years ago in WI, rest from various places in U. S. We went past the area where the Harry Potter steam train runs…
At the Duke of Argyle castle yesterday in Inverarary there in a piano in one of the rooms. The two composers who write My Fair Lady did so on that piano while at that castle.
We had a tour of Belfast with an IRA member. Neighborhoods here are very separated still. So much killing in the past. He said they still hate each other but put the violence behind. There are still places he knows to not enter.
i could have saved the Mets a fortune. I was available to agree to HALF the salary of Juan Soto to just stand at the plate and hold the bat until the ump said Strike Three
#SCOTUS allows Trump to fire labor board members. Apparent 6-3 decision with all liberal justices in dissent. Court says more harm from denying POTUS right to remove officials than from those officials staying in office.”
“Democrats, my brothers and sisters — I understand why you’re worried about Trump. I understand why you call him an ultimate evil — but I don’t agree. And if you want the ultimate evil, look at the Islamists — the extreme ones in America, not just Muslims. And mind your dogs, who are doing their bidding”
Meanwhile, Angelica Ross, an actress who has appeared on American Horror Story, said she would like to see the former president recover to full health—so that he could be tried at The Hague for war crimes. “Would rather he rot in prison for the remainder of his days,” she wrote online. “Karma comes for us all.”
The progressive darling Taylor Lorenz, formerly of TheNew York Times and TheWashington Post, seized the opportunity to express her distaste for Biden’s healthcare policies, and wrote: “I hope he rots in hell and rests in piss.”
Forgot to mention here that at the Inveraray castle that we visited yesterday they also filmed an episode of Downton Abbey. The one where they traveled to visit uncle somebody.
So Catholics in N. Ireland have Palestinian flags because they are oppressed in Gaza. The Protestants in N. Ireland have Israeli flags because….the Catholics got the Palestinian flags first so they needed the opposite side.
