There is no limit-less legal immigration. In addition, the major difference is that legal immigrants are vetted and have to meet certain requirements.
Another major difference is that legal immigrants are allowed to apply for citizenship after five years.
I actually think we should expand the quotas, we need more legal immigrants.
Having said that, there is no doubt the Dems were abusing the second part of the legal immigration system by allowing huge numbers of “refugees” who really weren’t refugees (in bold below. I do think “refugee” status should be limited to those under verifiable persecution, not those fleeing “adverse conditions”.
The law governing U.S. immigration policy is called the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA). The INA allows the United States to grant up to 675,000 permanent immigrant visas each year across various visa categories. On top of those 675,000 visas, the INA sets no limit on the annual admission of U.S. citizens’ spouses, parents, and children under the age of 21. In addition, each year the president is required to consult with Congress and set an annual number of refugees to be admitted to the United States through the U.S. Refugee Admissions Program. Finally, humanitarian protections such as asylum, Temporary Protected Status, and other programs which may permit someone to reside in the United States legally do not have numerical caps, but do have other restrictions.

I don’t think the selection criteria needs to be changed, I would like to see the 675,000 number increased. If you want a number, how about 1 million.

NEW: AP reporting that House Judiciary Committee interviewed Jay Bratt, former top DOJ official and Jack Smith’s lead thug in classified docs case, on Wednesday. Bratt repeatedly invoked Fifth Amendment in refusing to answer questions.
Bratt helped initiate the docs investigation into Pres Trump and visited Mar a Lago on June 3, 2022. He overruled alleged objections by FBI, including Washington FBI field office chief Steven D’Antuono, to seek a warrant to raid Mar a Lago in August 2022.
He also reportedly threatened Stanley Woodward, a now top Trump DOJ official who represented Walt Nauta in docs case, with sabotaging a judgeship Stanley had applied for in DC if he did not convince Nauta to flip on Trump.

I find it amazing that people who literally did nothing to become citizens act like Bill the Butcher in Gangs of New York towards all immigrants, legal and illegal.
I will say it again. I respect naturalized citizens as much or more than native born citizens. The naturalized citizens earned it. The rest of us were handed it when we slid out of our mothers.
As for illegals, secure the border and deport the violent criminals first.

Nobody is grandstanding. The BBB is a business-as-usual bloated congressional appropriation. It contains almost nothing of the cuts that the Doge work showed should be made.
The Republican reps have, as usual, stuffed the appropriation bill with perks and favors for their constituents. Where is the elimination of the Education department, the reduction in fraud in Social Security and other government payments? Where is the permanent reduction in the size and scope of government?
Why has the GOP raised the SALT tax-credit limit? This is just a giveaway to high income tax payers, especially those in blue states.
The time to cut spending is when appropriations bills are put together and passed. The Republicans in the committees have failed.

In 2017 (Year 1 of Trump 1), the US government spent $3.98 trillion. The projection for FY2025 (Year 1 of Trump 2) is $7 trillion.
The OMB never released a total spending number in their 2026 budget, showing only a ‘Discretionary Spending’ budget. It is very likely that the budget proposal voted down today is for spending of more than $7 trillion.
We should be headed back to 2017 levels, not keeping 2025 levels. The administration has tried to gaslight the public through the entire BBB process.
