There is no limit-less legal immigration. In addition, the major difference is that legal immigrants are vetted and have to meet certain requirements.
Another major difference is that legal immigrants are allowed to apply for citizenship after five years.
I actually think we should expand the quotas, we need more legal immigrants.
Having said that, there is no doubt the Dems were abusing the second part of the legal immigration system by allowing huge numbers of “refugees” who really weren’t refugees (in bold below. I do think “refugee” status should be limited to those under verifiable persecution, not those fleeing “adverse conditions”.
The law governing U.S. immigration policy is called the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA). The INA allows the United States to grant up to 675,000 permanent immigrant visas each year across various visa categories. On top of those 675,000 visas, the INA sets no limit on the annual admission of U.S. citizens’ spouses, parents, and children under the age of 21. In addition, each year the president is required to consult with Congress and set an annual number of refugees to be admitted to the United States through the U.S. Refugee Admissions Program. Finally, humanitarian protections such as asylum, Temporary Protected Status, and other programs which may permit someone to reside in the United States legally do not have numerical caps, but do have other restrictions.
Glad to see James Comey get a little bit of, hmmm, “retribution”.

I don’t think the selection criteria needs to be changed, I would like to see the 675,000 number increased. If you want a number, how about 1 million.
Look at Table 2. I would favor increasing these limits, especially categories 1, 2 and 5.
After 30 years and a series of appeals that reached all the way to the United States Supreme Court, the ‘Cassanova Killer’ Glen Rogers was executed by lethal injection in Florida.”

NEW: AP reporting that House Judiciary Committee interviewed Jay Bratt, former top DOJ official and Jack Smith’s lead thug in classified docs case, on Wednesday. Bratt repeatedly invoked Fifth Amendment in refusing to answer questions.
Bratt helped initiate the docs investigation into Pres Trump and visited Mar a Lago on June 3, 2022. He overruled alleged objections by FBI, including Washington FBI field office chief Steven D’Antuono, to seek a warrant to raid Mar a Lago in August 2022.
He also reportedly threatened Stanley Woodward, a now top Trump DOJ official who represented Walt Nauta in docs case, with sabotaging a judgeship Stanley had applied for in DC if he did not convince Nauta to flip on Trump.

From what I’ve heard and read the BBB was a fiscal mess. The best part of it was extending the tax cuts and adding the ones dealing with tips, SS, and overtime.
Patel is saying the building is “unsafe,” without saying why it is unsafe. He also feels having a third of the FBI (roughly 11,000) being heavily concentrated around DC is not warranted. That’s a good point.
“GOP PA Rep Smucker originally voted yes. But switched to no on the budget package in cmte. That we he can ask for a revote. You must be on the prevailing side of the issue. Smucker is from the district right next to mine. I know him and he is not a grandstander so i was surprised at his vote.
Time for a reality check… I think some folks thought Trump’s approval rating would keep falling, but it’s rising. Ipsos has his net approval going from -8 pts to -1 pt with voters. Aggregate has him up higher than late April too & much higher than at this point in term 1.
IMO Trump has made some great inroads in ME policy with his recent trip there. However, domestically his budget makes no economic sense, and is full of gimmicks.
Nobody is grandstanding. The BBB is a business-as-usual bloated congressional appropriation. It contains almost nothing of the cuts that the Doge work showed should be made.
The Republican reps have, as usual, stuffed the appropriation bill with perks and favors for their constituents. Where is the elimination of the Education department, the reduction in fraud in Social Security and other government payments? Where is the permanent reduction in the size and scope of government?
Why has the GOP raised the SALT tax-credit limit? This is just a giveaway to high income tax payers, especially those in blue states.
The time to cut spending is when appropriations bills are put together and passed. The Republicans in the committees have failed.
Where is the elimination of the Education department, the reduction in fraud in Social Security and other government payments? Where is the permanent reduction in the size and scope of government?”
Here is the problem.
Once you appoint cabinet members to these positions, they immediately revert to protecting their departments.
Jason is right (this is indeed becoming a strange day) that the budget is the best that can reasonably get done. Bill is right that the BBB seems like more DC garbage.
It happens that the economy, the Party and Trump all need to keep the income tax cuts in place.
Springsteen is worth between $750 million and $1 billion.
“Bruce Springsteen’s primary residence is a 400-acre horse farm in Colts Neck, New Jersey. He also owns a 10,000-square-foot mansion in Beverly Hills, California.”
Say what you will about Springsteen, but he is a philanthropist and has given away millions and millions to charities, even without fanfare or media attention.
Still don’t care about his politics. And never did.
BREAKING: Associate Deputy AG Ed Martin says James Comey is going to prison over Trump assassination threat — Either lie to the jury or admit he knew what “8647” meant: “He knew… He’s got a problem. Perjury traps are next. Going to jail on one or the other.”
He holds benefit concerts to raise money for causes he believes in such as Amnesty International and opposing nuclear energy. Also food banks and veteran groups. I suppose his time is worth millions and millions.
But a lot of rich Marxists are “philanthropists”, it is good for their image.
It doesn’t change the fact the ideology they espouse doesn’t benefit the “working class”, it just enslaves them.
“I see that highly overrated Bruce Springsteen goes to a foreign country to speak badly about the President of the United States. Never liked him. Never liked his music, or his radical left politics. And importantly, he’s not a talented guy – just a pushy, obnoxious JERK, who fervently supported Crooked Joe Biden, a mentally incompetent Fool, and our worst-ever President, who came close to destroying our Country.
If I wasn’t elected, it would’ve been gone by now. Sleepy Joe didn’t have a clue as to what he was doing, but Springsteen is ‘dumb as a rock,’ and couldn’t see what was going on, or could he (which is even worse!)? This dried out ‘prune’ of a rocker (his skin is all atrophied!) ought to KEEP HIS MOUTH SHUT until he gets back into the Country, that’s just ‘standard fare’. Then we’ll all see how it goes for him!”
SCOTUS sent the Aliens Enemies Act case back down to the lower court with instructions to decide whether the President’s order is unconstitutional, and how much notice the alien enemies must be given.
Hey Republicans Want to save trillions of dollars without hurting people by cutting Medicaid? How about implementing affordable health care for every American instead?”
I guess she admits Obamacare didn’t do any of that.
In 2017 (Year 1 of Trump 1), the US government spent $3.98 trillion. The projection for FY2025 (Year 1 of Trump 2) is $7 trillion.
The OMB never released a total spending number in their 2026 budget, showing only a ‘Discretionary Spending’ budget. It is very likely that the budget proposal voted down today is for spending of more than $7 trillion.
We should be headed back to 2017 levels, not keeping 2025 levels. The administration has tried to gaslight the public through the entire BBB process.
So let me get this straight: Donald Trump gets to fly around in a $400 million luxury jet while the rest of us have to worry about whether our plane will make it off the ground?”
Yep, the guy elected President gets to do things you don’t get to do.
“Harper also tweeted that “People close to Biden tell the authors that his deterioration first became noticeable in 2015. Tapper and Thompson point to tapes from 2017 that suggest ‘Biden was really struggling’ and ‘his cognitive capacity seemed to have been failing him.’”
In other words, it “first became noticeable” when Biden was still Vice President of the United States.
Something else learned from the book was an apparent confirmation of what that cabinet secretary told Chuck Todd in 2022. Once Biden took office, “cabinet meetings were described as ‘terrible and at times uncomfortable’ from the onset. Biden used notecards. Canned responses.”
“..by 2024, cabinet secretaries confessed he couldn’t be relied on in an emergency,” Harper also shared from the book.
Perhaps most disturbingly, Harper provided a quote from a Biden aide who said the quiet part out loud about Biden’s 2024 reelection campaign:
“He just had to win, and then he could disappear for four years—he’d only have to show proof of life every once in a while.”
Chi, The Supremeless Court kept this for 4 weeks? They could have not taken this up and just allowed the lower courts to decide. Seems like another Souter 2.0 and Beotchy special of stupidity.
“SCOTUS sent the Aliens Enemies Act case back down to the lower court with instructions to decide whether the President’s order is unconstitutional, and how much notice the alien enemies must be given.”

The nature of Congress is to protect itself first and foremost.
Trump is not going to change that.
Those that want all or nothing often get nothing.
This budget is the best that realistically can get done, Trump knows that.
Maybe some cosmetic changes to get the last grandstanders aboard, but if you expect radical changes you are living in an alternate universe.

BREAKING: Associate Deputy AG Ed Martin says James Comey is going to prison over Trump assassination threat — Either lie to the jury or admit he knew what “8647” meant: “He knew… He’s got a problem. Perjury traps are next. Going to jail on one or the other.”
