It is about trust to the MAGA voter. The reason many Trump voters don’t come out in mid-terms to the same degree is that Republicans have a long history of saying one thing during campaigns and doing another once elected. That’s how you got Trum in the first place.

It sure looks like Republicans ran and hid in 2018 – perhaps because the country had turned against Trump
Trump fails to get re-elected in 2020 – what happened to the MAGA voters in 2020? DId they see no difference between Donald Trump and Joe Biden?
I will note that Trump won two out of three Presidential elections during that period – against some of the weakest candidates the Dems have ever nominated. I don’t think you were a part of HHR in the run-up to 2016 but I seem to recall that we discussed the fact that almost very other Republican candidate was projected to beat Hillary – DJT’s numbers were the worst of any of his major primary opponents.
Bitter doesn’t like the answer, but the answer is right.
Bitter seems to think that the party is automatically entitled to the vote. He’s incorrect; the candidate and party must earn the vote. Bitter’s blind loyalty to any R is similar to the extreme loyalty of black voters to the D – if there’s no threat the voter will stay home or vote for someone else, there’s no reason for the politician to do what they promise.
That seems like a counterproductive strategy to me.

Prevost speaks English, Spanish, Italian, French and Portuguese and can read Latin and German, giving him abilities to communicate with his fellow cardinals in ways that others cannot
Prevost had a slew of liberal media outlets endorsing him including the NYT. He was picked by Francis, who I assume did so because he would follow the same path as Francis. Because the Vatican needs money, having fewer contributions in the last 12 years, the thinking is that an American Pope, speaking English fluently, would help the Vatican recover financially .
Bitter will continue to say it doesn’t matter to his belief that Jesus died for his sins, was raised from the dead, and reigns forever in Heaven as part of the Holy Trinity.
Jan, he’s an Augustinian, which is a far cry from a Jesuit. I’m hearing strict on Catholic doctrine, moderate on issues like illegal immigration (but not crazy). Let’s see how things pan out.
Fl, when Prevost was in the states, he registered as a Republican and voted in Republican primaries. So, he may be more of a centrist. Like you said we just have to wait and see.
I remember when Francis was named. All conservative media were thrilled, thinking he’s was an anti communist based on his actions in Argentina , and the MSM were upset. Look how things turned out. I’m willing to let things settle and see how this new Pope governs, both politically and spiritually. I’m just glad the guy that negotiated that Chinese bishop deal didn’t get it.
Fl, conservative media, so far, is not thrilled with Prevost being the new pope. They are scouring his social media posts on Twitter, and they are mostly anti- Trump in their tone. However, often the office makes the man, and not necessarily visa versa.
Who knew that President Trump’s comment during the NFL draft about the Bears would come back to haunt him, LOL!
Yep, Jan, we shall see. I still come back to everyone’s reaction with Francis and how he turned out. I’ll give the new Pope a chance before drawing any conclusions. I’ll pray for him as well.

What? No Quechua?
Prevost speaks English, Spanish, Italian, French and Portuguese and can read Latin and German, giving him abilities to communicate with his fellow cardinals in ways that others cannot

We speak the same languages too. Well, not Latin.
Definitely a sign.

Jan, he’s an Augustinian, which is a far cry from a Jesuit. I’m hearing strict on Catholic doctrine, moderate on issues like illegal immigration (but not crazy). Let’s see how things pan out.

He is definitely a Vatican insider who was trusted by Francis.
But whether he is a doctrinaire Marxist like Francis remains to be seen.

Did Pope Francis send a mail-in ballot before he died?

Yep, Jan, we shall see. I still come back to everyone’s reaction with Francis and how he turned out. I’ll give the new Pope a chance before drawing any conclusions. I’ll pray for him as well.
