  14. The Fed has a dual mandate, spelled out formally by Congress on February 25, 1997:

    To act “so as to promote effectively the goals of maximum employment, stable prices, and moderate long-term interest rates.”

    Let’s see where we are today –

    Unemployment is below the natural rate, and little different than it was four years ago. There are still 7.6 million job openings reported by US businesses. Ejection of those illegally in the country, if it happens, would exacerbate the labor shortage.

    Inflation rate is still stubbornly above the 2% target, despite the Fed’s efforts. Keep in mind that back in 1997, the target inflation rate was 0% – that is what ‘stable prices’ means. There are no signs that inflation is falling.

    So, Donald Trump is wrong, as he often is. Employment is doing well, stable prices not well. The indicated action is to hold the line on interest rates. Powell and the Fed are doing exactly what Congress has asked them to do.

    Apparently, Thomas and Alito lit into Beotchy and Souter 2.0.

    Souter is making a mockery of the court.

    Bottom line, neither Bosoberg nor the ACLU can obtain class status for the illegals.

    @shipwreckedcrew

    The Supreme Court’s decision to block any deportations under the AEA is a curious position to take after 5 members last week said that Executive action under the AEA is subject to almost no judicial review. So what are they going to look at?

Deportation is the removal process for non-citizens breaking immigration laws. Simple as that. I believe the SC is asking that the Trump Administration to stop the herding and instead go through the process of finding out if the immigrant trespassed into the US. If they did-load them up in the plane. Shouldn’t take that long with modern technology. If they are criminals then send them to the front of the plane.

    BillW, did you read the economic assessment? It’s written by 2 top tier economists with long established track records of successful economic calls. For example, they were among the first to call out Powell’s ridiculous transitory inflation assessment and the need for the Fed to increase rates to deal with inflation.  They now offer a non-TDS assessment of a deteriorating economic environment, which they say advocates for proactive, not reactive Fed action and lower Fed rates. I’m not fully sold on the need for precipitously cutting rates at this time either, but I’m always hesitant to discard a call by these guys due to their proven track record. They are also not Trumpists by any stretch of the imagination

    It would also seem clear that giving him the notice upon arrival in Texas after capture, and then waiting a month before flying him out, is plenty of notice.
