It was a memorable occasion mainly because of the words spoken afterwards by Kennedy, his humility and genuine appreciation for having the opportunity to remedy our health issues. So far Trump’s cabinet selections bode well for enacting needed and positive changes in our government. Maybe a lot of people see it that way too, as polling has shown a dramatic surge in optimism and feeling we are headed in the right direction.

  130. traditional conservatives”

No such thing, because there are no “traditional conservatives” and “modern conservatives”.

Trump is not a conservative, he is a populist who adopts some conservative positions for electoral, not ideological, purposes. He is not a “modern conservative”

What HAS changed is the make-up of the R base, now majority populist. I am not really sure why populists, who are clearly winning the hearts and minds of the R base, even want to pretend they are conservatives. They view an actual conservative movement like Reagan’s as obsolete.

Most conservatives voted for Trump, as did conservative leaning Independents. Like me, they didn’t feel there was an option, you either voted for a populist with some conservatism or a Marxist with a lot Marxism. Contrary to what the Cultists think, there were not enough MAGA voters to win the election.

To maintain a viable long term coalition, the R party will need to attract a much wider coalition than just MAGA voters. That may or may not happen, it hinges on the success of Trump’s presidency. But he won’t be judged on how much money he “saved” he will be judged on what Presidents usually are judged, prices, inflation, crime, jobs, pay. He is banking the impact of tariffs will be offset by lower energy prices. It is a gamble, unnecessary in my view. But I hope it works.

Even then it made me question the efficacy of what I was doing on his behalf. Today’s vax schedule has grown to around 70.

    Zzzzz…..

So you would be in favor of judges hauling in members of the executive branch to question THEM? Same difference, right?

We have independent branches of government exactly for this reason, so judges don’t have to “explain their case to Congress”.

Nobody at HHR said “do nothing”. Appeals need to be filed immediately, but that is the correct approach.

And yes, these judges who issue absurd rulings should be sanctioned, but by the judicial branch itself according to its rules.

  138. janz – my son is just over 20. I do recall going to doctors almost every month. My wife usually took him. I thought it was mainly because he had been born premature. I’ll have to look more closely at what he received. I did not think it was that many, but I could be wrong.

I do know my wife and I discussed the chicken pox vaccine several times with his pediatrician, since we did not want to give it to him, as even the doctor admitted that it is more an “economic” vaccine (helps working parents avoid having to take off for a week or 2 to care for the child with chicken pox) than a life-saving one. We did relent, eventually, as the NY school system mandates it.
