And no empathy or sympathy for the family, Sane? Should they kill themselves too to atone for their daughter’s failings?”

    Zzzzz….

Their daughter was in the military. The military is a volunteer force. Being in the military carries a lot of risks.

I have empathy for all the victims and their families, no matter who is responsible for the accident.

I have zero empathy for the family of the pilot in trying to keep her name secret and whomever in the military agreed to this should be reprimanded and demoted.

The family should not have the right to keep her name private. She was 100 feet above the 200 foot flight ceiling and also was not following the prescribed flight path. She has forfeited the right of privacy, alive or dead”

Actually, she forfeited the “right to privacy” when she joined the military.

That is beyond cold and completely inaccurate. All of her transportation and care at Shriners’ hospital was paid for by charities.

    Sad.

“Bob and Lori Schrock died in the horrific collision as they were traveling to visit their daughter in college at Villanova University in Philadelphia.

The married farmers had planned on flying into Reagan Airport before taking the train to meet up with their daughter Ellie, according to KSN.

Ellie is a junior at Villanova. The couple lived in the small town of Kiowa – located in southern Kansas near the Oklahoma border.

Loved ones remembered them for their generosity and faith in Christ.”

Sorry, just because her family will be getting hate mail does not justify the Army withholding her name.

Bitter is full of crap trying to defend the indefensible by attacking those that rightfully demand the name of the pilot be released.

Not releasing the name gives rise to conspiracy theories, yesterday a transgender pilot was named on some site and had to debunk the story. Where is the respect for HER privacy considering it was not her.

  13. Hi Folks,

I have some additional observations on the mid-air collision in DC.

Standard aviation procedure is that the non-flying pilot communicates with ATC on the radio. The male pilot who was administering the check ride is the voice heard on the DC tower tapes, which implies that the female being evaluated was flying the helicopter. The collision occurred at an altitude of 400 feet. The maximum altitude for a helicopter along that flight path (Route 4) is 200 feet.

The female pilot was flying 200 feet higher than the maximum allowable altitude, an automatic failure of the check ride! Given the fact that the check pilot was the aircraft commander, he should not have permitted the female being evaluated to exceed the maximum altitude. Had the mid-air collision not occurred and the entire flight been evaluated upon landing at Ft Belvoir, both the male and female pilots would have been grounded and further training for both been ordered. The caveat here is that it is currently unknown as to exactly why the helicopter was 200 feet higher than authorized. If the cockpit voice recorder was operable and recovered, then we will know more about what was going on in the cockpit.

Also, the ATC controller in the tower used non standard terminology in alerting the helicopter of the conflicting traffic. The terminology used should have been….
“PAT 25, do you have traffic at your 10 o’clock high?”. Instead, he said (paraphrasing) ‘PAT 25, do you see the American CRJ’. PAT 25 responded, “Rodger, request visual separation”. The controller responded simply…”Separation”.

The current prevailing speculation is that what PAT 25 actually saw was the traffic on departure from Runway 01 and not the American CRJ landing on Runway 33. That traffic wound have been at roughly the 2 o’clock high and climbing.

On another subject, it is highly unusual for all of the helicopter crew members not to have been named. We will find out what her name is eventually.

    More later.
