good morning. Seems I’m going to have to come on much earlier in the day to win against all of y’all brilliant people.
sooooo. I’ve been pretty quiet lately. Traveling a lot, work and the young ones have limited my time, but I’ve been watching what’s going on with Trump. I haven’t read the thread from yesterday so my opinion won’t have been based on what anyone here has said…though I truly wish airports would stop broadcasting cnn. I believe they constitute 90% of their viewership.
so, while I agree with some of what Trump has been doing, I feel like he’s going too far to feed his ravenous base. Freezing all government programs??? I believe the constitution gave the purse strings to congress. I actually like that he’s eliminating DEI programs (btw I can tell you firsthand that a lot of companies have completely shut down those programs in the last 30 days with a speed I didn’t expect), but why be so vocal about it.
he won NOT because of the base, but with a coalition that included disaffected black and Hispanic Americans. If we want a long term shift there needs to be some delicacy/nuance with these rollouts or else perception becomes reality with these voters.
let’s win long term by being more strategic and less bombastic…

I think I have driven by the Little League property in South Williamsport at least 30 times in my trips north. However, I have stopped going that way in recent years since they put in a bypass bridge over the Susquehanna between Shamokin Dam and Lewisburg, meaning both Lewisburg and South Williamsport can be bypassed saving 25 minutes or so on my trip.

Vic, Trump is doing what he said throughout the campaign. He’s been a well-known change agent since coming down the escalator, and he was elected twice. I’d say he was twice elected because he’s a change, not despite being a change agent.
Most polling of the transition is positive; CNN just had a segment saying Trump is more popular now than at any time during his first term.
The key to keeping more of the black and brown votes is for Republicans to actually talk to them, address their concerns and ask for their vote. It worked for Trump.

Trump had more total votes than Reagan but that is what happens when population grows. Reagan had higher % and EVs.
Total popular vote is not a reliable measure of the merit of a President or Biden in 2020 would be the greatest President in U.S. history and George Washington would be last.

Reagan was elected 44 years ago and re-elected 40 years ago. My comment on the current coalition should have said 20 years, perhaps 40 years (rather than 50). Reagan’s was indeed a broad coalition.
Between Reagan and Trump, the Republican coalition was far from a big tent. The tent is now bigger than it has been since Reagan. To me, that’s a good thing.

Facts never matter to the Cultists.
Any mention of Reagan is somehow considered “diminishing” for Trump, so it must be censored.

he’s also correct. The last few presidencies have seen a very loose coalition, with lots of competing factions in them.

btw. We should ALL stop with the Reagan comparisons, or getting hurt feelings when he is compared to Trump.
this is an entirely different world than it was 44 years ago, America has changed (much for the worse sadly…especially thanks to Obama who was the most damaging President to this country since Buchanan).
access to information, ease of transport, the way we communicate is so substantially different than 44 years ago when we didn’t even have cable Tv yet.

Yes, he is moving goalposts because his intent is to remove Reagan from comparisons with Trump because “it was too long ago”.
He is deeply offended than anyone would remind him that Reagan won 49 states and much higher % of the vote than Trump.

Why the drop?
Does this just PROVE how bad public polling is these days?
The sudden drop sure does not match what I am seeing and hearing.
***************************************************************
OR is the drop REAL and it is due perhaps to:
–Trump goofiness over Gulf of America, wanting Greenland and Panama Canal?
or
–bad taste in mouth from the confirmation hearings of some of Trump’s nominees?
or
–because Trump is moving quickly and successfully on apprehension and deportations of the worst lot of criminal illegals and forcing Columbia to back down on return of illegals?
or
–because of Trump firing various federal workers like the ones who worked at DOJ under Smith, seeking to buy out and force retirement of others, ending security details for various folks, making claims about the CA fires that are not true, freezing/pausing all federal grants, etc.?
or
–continuation/acceleration of MSM ramping up negative stories about Trump and his first weeks, even if they are FALSE stories, such as the one that said ICE was going into schools n Chicago?
–Something else?
LikeLike
BTW, several days ago, there was a news story here in WV about how ICE/WV officials now had 53 illegal aliens in custody throughout WV.
Not sure about what the body count of apprehensions is now…
My gut feeling in there about 500-1000 illegals JUST in my COUNTY of WV (Berkeley county pop. is about 175,000) and another 300-500 in Jefferson County next door.
There have been a NUMBER of high profile cases in my county about illegals and some high profile murders and other crimes there have committed HERE.

BRIDGEWATER, Va. (WHSV) – Officials have identified the suspect involved in Monday’s pursuit along Interstate 81 as a wanted man out of New York.
The Bridgewater Police Department was alerted to a license plate reader that identified the suspect, “who had recently committed a home invasion and stole a truck in Maryland,” Bridgewater Police Chief Phillip Read said in a release Tuesday. That suspect is Esmeraldo Martinez De La Cruz, 34, of Bronx, New York.
Officers located De La Cruz in the area of Dinkel Avenue and Hickory Lane in Bridgewater with his 4-year-old daughter in the truck, Read said. De La Cruz fled “at a high rate of speed” after officials attempted a traffic stop and he continued northbound on I-81 in excess of speeds of 110 mph, according to the release.
During the pursuit, De La Cruz began firing at officers. He was taken into custody near mile marker 300 in the Strasburg area. Read said there were no reported injuries, and De La Cruz’s daughter was unharmed and later reunited with family.
The chase at one point closed down parts of I-81 due to the police activity, causing traffic delays Monday afternoon.
De La Cruz was charged with the following offenses and taken to Rockingham County Jail:

Conceivably against Biden he could have won those for like 37.
