The birthright citizen guarantee in the 14th amendment, has been interpreted in different ways, but has never gone through a clarifying challenge in the SC. Many have said the founding fathers wording was directed at African Americans brought here as slaves, giving them a birthright status, but was never meant for an onslaught of illegal immigrants giving anchor babies automatic citizenship. In fact I believe no other country has subjected itself to such an open ended citizenship standard. Anyway, what Trump has done is provide a controversial EO opening the door for the SC to decide its constitutional merit.

I actually not know the place from naval history and Tom Clancy novels. The only time when Tirpitz fired her big guns in anger was in 1943 during a bombardment of a weather and comms station on the island. Clancy mentions the place in Red October, and perhaps again in Red Storm.

I just saw a former DOJ attorney on Fox talking about the birthright citizenship issue. She thinks odds are that the Court says Trump is wrong.
However, she pointed out two things that could help Trump. First, the US Senator who wrote the amendment said on the Senate floor that it did not apply to aliens, and that “subject to jurisdiction thereof” referred to slaves.
Second, the Supreme Court case on the issue differentiated earlier cases not allowing birthright citizenship because those earlier cases involved aliens.

I liked Clancy’s earlier novels. My favorites were The Hunt for Red October, Patriot Games and Clear and Present Danger. I lost interest when the books started getting very long and were being ghost written.

Trumps order indicated that the cases needed to be dismissed with prejudice.
This creates a crisis that may need to be remedied at a higher court and or civil damages filed.

The issue is – babies born to ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS should be denied citizenship, because they are actually citizens of the nation where their parents are from, the same way a child born in a different country to American citizens is automatically an American citizen, and the same way a child born to LEGAL IMMIGRANTS going through the naturalization process end up becoming citizens once their parent conclude the naturalization process.
My issue has nothing to do with race, ethnicity, religion, where you’re from etc etc.
The law is not clear. Good for Trump to make it an issue.

Think of how much more support the Ukraine situation would have if the original aid packages had included clear audits of what went over, how it was used, and its effectiveness.
Such a simple thing, but for some reason, it was voted down.
One can only assume bad reasons for that.

Back during Trump’s first term, the use of sanctions against Russia and Iran and Venezuela was very successful.
It was after Biden assumed office that the use of sanctions became less effective.
I think that has more to do with the person putting the sanctions in place.
Sanctions are similar to immigration laws – if not enforced to the letter of the law, they are not as effective.

Regarding pardons and commutations, I didn’t like Jimmy Carter even though he was President before I could vote. This would have been an additional reason to not like him had I known about it. As far as I know there was never a reason given by Carter for these prisoners commutations, although one was terminally ill.

NYC, I’d say the “students” who interrupted the class became trespassers in that moment. The precedent for trespassing in a political protest is several years in jail, after a couple years in the joint before being charged. Lock them up!
