if it was possible to put the fires out NOW, why weren’t they put out back when they started, and before 10,000 structures and dozens of people were incinerated?
In FL, when DeSantis was informed of a pending hurricane, he put all first responders and recovery assets on stand by so they could immediately tackle the disaster. In CA, when Mayor Bass, Gov Newsom and other political officials knew high-powered Santa Ana winds would subject the dry LA area to fire eruptions, Bass went to Africa, 100 fire trucks were left in disrepair, no extra fireman were put in areas susceptible to fires because of slashes in overtime pay, the number of regular fire fighters were cut back, and water sources like the closest reservoir to Pacific Palisades was left empty and off like for a year because of a minor repair not being done.
It was all because of dysfunctional incompetence by the leadership of LA and the state of CA.
The northern part of our city was under mandatory evacuation and were able to put out live embers. Some morons still deny Putin is trying to recreate the Soviet Union and/or a Greater Russia.
“The Kremlin seeks to de facto annex Belarus by formalizing the Union State as a Russian-dominated federated government that grants Moscow dominant power over most if not all aspects of Belarusian governance. This includes establishing full operational and administrative control over Belarus’ armed forces during peacetime and permanent Russian military basing in Belarus; a political union with a Kremlin-dominated federated government with a common set of federal laws and institutions for Belarusians and Russians to be governed as a single polity; and a fully integrated economy complete with common markets, free labor flows, unified laws, and a currency union. The Kremlin very likely plans to leverage Belarus’ population of 9.155 million people, Belarus’ geostrategic territory on NATO’s eastern flank, and Belarus’ economic resources in service of Russian state power.”
Essentially Belarus has been annexed by Russia, which would have happened to Ukraine had Putin’s plan to decapitate the Ukrainian leadership on the first few days of the invasion been successful.

Annexing both Belarus and Ukraine would have added 50 million people to Russia’s population and territory 1/3 larger than Texas, along with vast agricultural and mineral resources, strengthening Russia’s agenda for further expansion. And arguably although recreating the entire USSR might not be completely feasible, Ukraine was probably the second most important republic after Russia itself, and Belarus not far behind. A lot of the “stans” added considerable territory but not a lot of population or resources.
Elizabeth Warren calls Bessent “smart and thoughtful”
Scary.
Bessent supported Democratic presidential campaigns in the past, and he worked for Democratic mega-donor George Soros before founding his own firm. Now, he’s a key figure in the Republican orbit and served as an economic adviser to Trump’s campaign.
Bessent would be the first openly LGBTQ Cabinet member confirmed by the Senate under a Republican president. His nomination comes as Trump calls for major tariffs and changes in the U.S. approach to global trade, though Trump’s official announcement for Bessent did not include mention of tariffs.

My wife has been arranging for various mutual friends to drive Don’s wife Cindy the 25 miles to hospital and others drive her home. She calls Cindy each day to let her know who is going to drive here and what time.
Cindy called a friend the other day and could not remember who was picking her up and when. So the friend called my wife…
As least there is no more talk of “taking the .45 off the shelf.”
****************************
When Mary asked her what nursing home they were going to take Don to, Cindy could not remember the name of it. SAid it had the word “Well” in it’s name. (there is no nursing home locally that has the word “Well” in its name.) He is still in the hospital while they are processing paperwork.
The nursing home needs financial data. Cindy said she has finally found 3 of Don’s retirement papers and how much he gets per month from those. Still looking for others. I told my wife to tell Cindy to look at the banking statements, and they would tell of all the various retirement checks and the amounts.
Putinistas like Chicon love the meme that Russia “is weak militarily” and “not a threat” because of their difficulties in Ukraine.
This sophomoric laughable argument does not take into account two major fact.
It is not only by military means that Russia is pursuing its expansionist agenda. It did not fire a shot in Belarus, the annexation is a product of economic and political influence AND meddling in Belarus’ internal affairs to achieve their objective. This same effort is going on in Georgia, Chechnya, the stans, Moldova, etc. as well as continuing threat directed at the Baltic States, Finland, etc.
The present war in Ukraine was not something Russia was prepared for, intended to pursue or wanted. The Russian plan was to decapitate the Ukrainian leadership by taking over the airbase near Kyiv, landing enough troops to take over the seat of government and install a puppet, followed by occupation of the city via the “convoy” coming from the Russian border to the North. Once the plan failed, the convoy was a sitting duck, and the Russians had to pull back into Russia and attack Ukraine in a conventional war on other fronts against entrenched defenders with much better knowledge of the terrain and how to fight on it. Had the plan worked, Russia would have annexed Ukraine with minimal losses.
Russia is a formidable foe on all fronts, nuclear, conventional, economically, and politically. Putin’s ambition, stated publicly, is to use all these means to expand Russia’s territory and influence.

-Since we buy used equipment (not tractors, forklifts), we do not have to deal with these types of issues.
I know that we have actually bought pretty good used machinery BECAUSE of this issue, as the original owner didn’t want to deal with the high cost of fixing the piece with the registered repair shop, and we were able to get some good units that have lasted a long time.
That said, I hope the person who buys the equipment is ultimately allowed to fix the machine with whomever they want. Of course, any warranty would expire if they choose that route, and any recalls would not have to be honored by the manufacturer.

Holy Moses.

Putinistas like Chicon love the meme that Russia “is weak militarily” and “not a threat” because of their difficulties in Ukraine.
This sophomoric laughable argument does not take into account two major fact.
Russia is a formidable foe on all fronts, nuclear, conventional, economically, and politically. Putin’s ambition, stated publicly, is to use all these means to expand Russia’s territory and influence.

Zzzzzzz…..
The Cultists and Putinistas insult anyone who is not a Cultist or a Putinista all day long here but they want to be treated “politely”. Really?
And maybe the Dems that come here, like Big Joe, don’t come here to recite endless Russian propaganda and conspiracy theories?
How is this for politeness?
GFYs.

Huh, no.
First, you don’t work “with” him, you work “for” him.

No, not politely at all. Just trying to live by the moronic “no free lunch” idiocy inflicted on the joint by you and Bitter.
I admit, making fun of you two is enjoyable.

Epic trolling of Hollywood by Trump…
It is my honor to announce Jon Voight, Mel Gibson, and Sylvester Stallone, to be Special Ambassadors to a great but very troubled place, Hollywood, California. They will serve as Special Envoys to me for the purpose of bringing Hollywood, which has lost much business over the last four years to Foreign Countries, BACK—BIGGER, BETTER, AND STRONGER THAN EVER BEFORE! These three very talented people will be my eyes and ears, and I will get done what they suggest. It will again be, like The United States of America itself, The Golden Age of Hollywood!
