Sorry, that dog isn’t hunting. These fires were completely preventable and have nothing to do with climate change.
The fires could have been prevented with….
a) leadership
b) water
c) funding
d) personnel
e) equipment
f) willingness
LA and California in general lack all of these things.

DW, so far, the cause of each fire that has been ascertained successfully has been arson. The Palisades fire is outstanding in that regard, but the word today is that evidence on a hiking trail is leading investigators towards arson in that blaze as well. Homeless crackpots, for the most part, I don’t know of any terror related arson.
Funny, I remember the whole climate change line during the Australian fires a few years back, and those turned out to be man made as well.

Also, your 10:58AM post on homelessness and Trump doing nothing about it despite being a week out from his inauguration reminded me of this gem from Mark Halperin back in October of 2000;

So Trump’s DOJ will presumably not challenge any state led initiatives to curb immigration like the Biden DOJ has (under the argument that immigration is a federal issue).

I am sure the Dems will find a taxpayer in Texas to file a lawsuit against Abbott for using their tax dollars to build a wall. Not sure that would be sufficient for standing.

This morning there was talk about the Palisades fire starting from a New Year’s Eve fire that was extinguished, but whose embedded embers were reactivated a week later, spreading rapidly to other areas by the hurricane-like Santa Ana winds. Residents called the FD when they first saw a fire restarting from the same place it had recently been put out. However, the LAFD did not address the call quickly, like it had done a week before.

While I’m glad people are waking up, this is not some profound concept. “We endorsed Karen Bass. I think right now, that’s a mistake. And we admit that.” “I think we were one of the few to say competence matters… the interesting thing is that maybe we should think about how we elect people on the basis of did they actually run a job?” “Did they actually make a payroll? A long time good friend (76 yrs old) from college days and this couple has been in our supper club for about 25 years or more)… he drove himself 25 miles to a doctor appointment last Wednesday, then drove home. He and I were on the college baseball team together.
5 a.m. Saturday morning he ended up being taken to the hospital by another friend. Others had to help him get it the car and buckle his seat belt. Now has severe dementia issues. Cannot tell his cell phone from the TV remote; does not know what year it is; keeps talking about how he needs to get out of this bed and go get some gasoline; has lost mobility and cannot walk or even stand, dress himself, etc. Still in the hospital, awaiting placement to a nursing home…
To top it off, his wife is a mess. Sobs all the time, threatens to just get the .45 off the shelf and shoot herself; she is overwhelmed with all this. We got her to call her therapist and get an appointment. She stopped driving, but they still have TWO cars. Of course, nursing home will all have to be private pay. I predict she will also end up in a nursing home within months. She has no clue about their finances and their five bank accounts, etc. She wants to stay at the hospital with him all the time…”he needs me”….But she really has trouble just taking care of herself.
We have been spending time with them at the hospital. And other friends have been providing transportation (25 miles one way) to get his wife to and from the hospital to visit him and deal with the doctors and hosp. social worker to a nursing home secure placement.
On Sunday, the doctor simply wanted to release him to GO HOME, as none of their tests showed anything other than dementia. DESPITE the fact that HE NOW CANNOT WALK AND NEEDS TO HAVE WRIST RESTRAINTS ON to keep him in the bed and his wife cannot possibly take care of him at home.
Sad.

@realDonaldTrump
For far too long, we have relied on taxing our Great People using the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). Through soft and pathetically weak Trade agreements, the American Economy has delivered growth and prosperity to the World, while taxing ourselves. It is time for that to change. I am today announcing that I will create the EXTERNAL REVENUE SERVICE to collect our Tariffs, Duties, and all Revenue that come from Foreign sources. We will begin charging those that make money off of us with Trade, and they will start paying, FINALLY, their fair share. January 20, 2025, will be the birth date of the External Revenue Service. Latest on my friend Don…
No bed restraints now, but still trying unsuccessfully to get out of bed whenever he is awake.
Still majorly confused. Does not know where he is. Thinks he is late for a doctor appointment. Says, :I am in bad shape here…”. Can sing the words to Beach Boy songs when prompted. Memory of who was on his high school baseball team and what position they played comes and goes.
Still cannot stand or walk.
He says he has no pain anywhere. Yet for months he complained about bad back pains. But when I ask about (weeks/months ago if he has he tried a heating pad or ice pack,…”well, no…” and never made any effort to try either.) His back hurts him so bad that he cannot stand to cook for he and wife–and he was the main cook who prided himself on cooking, but also cannot remember how to cook and what in in the recipes he kept in his head. Last week Cindy said he was sitting there eating salmon out of a can when she was on the phone with a friend. She never cooked much, if any.
Somehow gets his hospital gown off and kick his sheet off and lays there in bed stark naked but has no compunction of laying there without a stitch on while talking with other males or females.
Eats very little. Now giving Ativan sedating meds by IV now, since he is refusing to take pills. Was sleeping almost the whole time today.
The five bank accounts they have–one is for the house payment, one is for the car payment. Not sure of the others. Cindy lost her debit card some time ago, does have a credit card but Don never lets her use it. He always wrote checks and handled all finances. Not sure if Cindy is on the accounts to also be able to write checks.
Hosp. still has not found a nursing home to discharge him to. Nursing homes say he has to be unrestrained for 48 hours, be able to feed himself, will not need anyone to sit with him overnight, etc., etc.
Lot of hand holding for the emotionally distraught wife is needed. My wife has been arranging for us and others to transport her to the hosp in the morning, and back home in the evening, as well as giving advice, and talking her off the ledge.
