Johnson should get like 200 signatures vowing not to vote for ANY freedom caucus clown for speaker should they try to remove him. They can vote for him or for Jeffries.

If Trump supports Johnson, they will support him.

Movements continue to grow when they are seen as successful and honest. When Trump finishes his 2nd and last term in office, a MAGA successor will only happen if promised reforms and administrative changes were able to be successfully implemented.

I’d guess that Vance carries the ball. The real question is what happens to the GOP when Trump leaves the stage? Maybe it’ll return to the sweater-wearing, country club party that’s been so dominant in the past twenty years.

In 2016 the nationalist populous movement was getting its message out and defining itself. People liked it, despite establishment republicans not signing on with few endorsements, legacy news outlets 24/7 criticizing it, and Dems laughing at the sheer lunacy of a political newbie challenging the old. In 2020 the left was ready to foil the growing enthusiasm for the new movement by the only means they were good at – throw enough legislative nail strips and illegitimate ballots in the way guaranteeing their win. In 2024, the new movement had only grown, despite all the lawfare tactics, assassination attempts, threats and jail time to its leaders. It had also become more appealing to not only establishment R’s but also an array of other party members, creating an historic win. That’s where we are today.
Establishment politicians, though, from both major parties, have either been a part of the opposition or reluctant “joiners” of what is today a popular movement. However, should MAGA lose its shine, the establishment politicians will once again joyfully work against it.

Sane – I did not read it yet. I read one short summary in a news article that gave an example of a doctor who was disciplined for refusing to comply with state law on prescribing opiates and then claimed he had a first amendment right to over-prescribe. I am sure it is a more complex issue. At least your link wasn’t from Gateway Pundit or ZeroHedge.

I am watching a ceremony in DC honoring the 200th anniversary of the Marquis de Lafayette’s 1824’s speech to Congress in 1824. Speaker Johnson opened the ceremony. I’m sure Tina and Jan would disapprove.
