  4. “60% of Americans oppose HB-1 visas”.

I am actually pleasantly surprised 40% of Americans aren’t swayed by xenophobic isolationist protectionist propaganda and understand the value and benefits of this program.

Not to mention the fact most of the 60%, as Bitter said, probably don’t even know what it means.

  6. Essentially, the “American First” crowd wants people in this country to have opportunities in securing high paying tech jobs”

    Zzzzzzz…

Without the companies and the technology and innovation that creates high paying tech jobs, greatly fostered by the HB-1 visa program, there wouldn’t “high paying jobs” for anybody.

The America First crowd are a bunch of ignorant xenophobic isolationists who could care less about “opportunity”. If they cared about “opportunity” they would want America to be a world leader and exporter of innovation and technology, not an isolated backwater.

  7. Four years ago Elon Musk was a Democrat.

Instead of being pleased a guy of his wealth and intelligence and success has volunteered his time and effort and prestige to support Trump and help America once again become a world class economy, the Cultists now attack and ostracize him because he is not in favor of economic isolationism and protectionism.

Musk should tell the Cultists to GFTs. They don’t deserve him.

So everyone who voted for Kamala voted “America First” too?

The unions who funded her and all the liberals that voted for her are protectionists too. Trump didn’t invent tariffs, they have been part of the failed AFL-CIO agenda for 70 years.

For the last 70 years, it was the Dems who were against free trade and in favor of protectionism.

I guess they were “America First” first.

  16. So far Trump has indicated he is siding with Musk’s position on the H-1B visa controversy. However, Musk is emphasizing he favors giving such visas for “genius” performers, downplaying other tech workers coming over on their coattails.

    https://archive.is/2024.12.28-192634/https://nypost.com/2024/12/28/us-news/donald-trump-backs-h-1b-visa-program-supported-by-elon-musk/

”Musk said his passion for the issue stemmed from wanting America to remain competitive by attracting “the top ~0.1% of engineering talent” which he said was essential for “America to keep winning.”

People are not opposed to issuing work visas to exceptional foreign workers, but rather oppose the abuse of over-issuing them, where they take jobs away from equally talented Americans by giving them to people willing to take a lower wage. I think Trump will have to walk a fine line on this one, as he earlier railed against hiring cheaper foreign workers, arbitrarily replacing equally competent US workers.

  21. Tina, you seem to get the gist of the H-1B issue. I agree Musk’s “.1%” comment makes sense. However, the displacement of equally competent citizens by non-citizens is the big rub, and should be seen and handled far differently.

Isn’t it up to the company to decide which is more competent?

Honest question because I don’t know the answer…. why would an American company not hire an American citizen over a foreigner, all things being equal?

  28. One question being raised is why is the H-1B visa controversy being spurred on before Trump’s inauguration? It seems like an almost too conspicuous of a fight to be having right now. With the left delighted to see internal struggles brewing in MAGA, it seems worthy to speculate some of this divisiveness is being artificially fueled to deliberately split the roll Trump/Musk are on.

  41. Seems like he landed too far down the runway because at least in the video the distance he covered from touchdown to crash was very short. Usually in belly landings the plane doesn’t slide longer than the runway because of the friction.

In any case, the distance from the end of the runway to the wall does seem very short too.
