There are a lot of goals I will support Trump to accomplish.
Conservative judges. Tax cuts. Elon and Vivek government reform. Close border. Deregulation. Energy independence. Combating wokism and partisanship in federal agencies. Support for parental right. Investing in military. Pulling out of the Paris Accords and other “climate change” ratholes. Case by case reviews of J6 prosecutions. Path to legalization of Dreamers.
There are a lot things will NOT support, not sure I would call them “goals”:
Tariffs, trade wars and other protectionist measures. Failure to support strategic alliances. Failure to support Ukraine and any “deal” that does not hold Putin accountable for his war crimes. Blanket pardons to violent J6 criminals.
There are other issues I may or may not support depending on how they are handled.
As for a conservative in 4 years, yes, obviously I would prefer RDS as someone I view as an actual conservative. I would leave the word “pure” out of it.
The “purists” are those that think if you disagree with some of Trump’s policies you don’t want him to have a successful Presidency.

I imagine Murkowski, Collins and Curtis would be the no’s on Hegeseth, and none of them are worried about “pressure”. Not sure where the 4th no would come from, but there are others that would be impervious to “pressure” such as McConnell. I think Ernst has been bullied into voting yes.
But the fact Trump has not pulled him probably means there are no definite number of no’s to tank the nomination like there was with Gaetz.
Also Trump picked a real “establishment” guy for Deputy Sec of Defense. Stephen Feinberg is a billionaire private equity investor with strong ties to defense to the weapons industry and defense contractors. This is really not a “rock the boat” guy as pertains to the “military industrial” complex.

Chicon, I disagree. Floyd’s autopsy showed he had something like 4x the lethal doses of fentanyl in his system, which initially the ME said was the cause of death. He was intimidated, though, to withdraw that opinion. Also, another angle of Chauvin’s knee indicated it was on Floyd’s shoulder, or his neck.

Floyd was not a threat to anyone after being detained, and the force used on him was completely unnecessary compared to what Penny had to do to protect the other passengers.
Under MN law, Chauvin will probably “only” serve 15 years of his 22 yr sentence. Seems appropriate to me.

One of the first lessons in law school regarding intent and causation was this hypothetical.
A man jumps off a 30 story building. At that moment, somebody intends to kill him and shoots him and the bullet pierces his heart.
Even though the fall would likely have killed the man, the shooter could be found guilty of murder if the cause of death was determined to be the bullet in the heart.

Floyd was having trouble breathing and asked the officers to put him on the ground. Fentanyl overdoses depress breathing. Chauvin put his knee on Floyd’s shoulder to quiet and keep him on the ground while they awaited an ambulance- the ambulance was caught in traffic and arrived too late to help Floyd. Floyd’s death was caused by a fentanyl overdose, the interaction of other drugs taken just before he was arrested, and the EMT’ arriving too late to save him. Most of the Court room evidence exploited the film taken by a sidewalk observer, not the other shots taken picturing the position of Chauvin’s knee on Floyd’s shoulder, not his neck. And, again the ME’s original report showed cause of death to be drugs, with no indication at all of any trauma to the neck area.
You’re wrong as usual, Jason, by failing to process the whole story, giving total credence to the one given by the less than reliable, biased news media and prosecuting attorney.

Chauvin – I have a hard time exonerating him totally. A person needs to be aware of certain things when they are working, and as a police officer, he should have been more sensitive to how video footage can overwhelm other evidence.
I watched the WHOLE video on bodycam available, which was almost 20 minutes, or almost that long. The WHOLE video available definitely puts the incident in a different light, but the media and the prosecutors were more interested in a scalp than true justice.

I know that back on HHR, several posters used to claim that someone was a conservative because they had a pretty good rating from ACU.
BUT, after being confronted with the fact that Senator Rand Paul had an almost perfect conservative rating from that organization, the same posters would then contradict their original claim, and say that Rand Paul wasn’t a conservative.
So, before that question can be answered, a definition for the word should be agreed upon.

I don’t trust him. He never vetoed the overspending bills from Congress back in his first term, I called him out on it constantly.
Unfortunately, too many “Republicans” in Congress say one thing on the campaign trail while doing something different in D.C., and if Trump had vetoed the bills, I seriously doubt Republicans would have taken the necessary steps to lower the amounts appropriated.
Hopefully, with this DOGE, and Vivek and Elon setting the narrative, there will be lower expenditures in the coming years. We shall see.

The police were called originally on Floyd trying to pass bogus money. He was already high, not cooperative, wouldn’t get into the police car, finally asked to be laid on the ground. Floyd was a high, towering man who was not in control of himself, because of being on an assortment of drugs. To most such an individual would present a threat. But, the social environment being dominated by BLM, anti white and police sentiments gave Floyd more of a sympathetic edge. Plus, Chauvin was not a very likable guy, which made it easy to shift the blame on him,, despite the ME’s autopsy report saying cause of death was due to fentanyl overdose – added in was the poor health Floyd was in due to his chronic drug use and lifestyle. Ironically, in the Penny case, the ME’s brought up the ill health of the victim as a contributing cause of death, helping Penny’s defense position. The same was absent in the Chauvin trial.

I ‘ve read others opinions about chauvin’s conviction. And, I accept their comments as being how they see the incident. However, I just can’t cave and agree when the actual evidence clearly indicates no bruising or trauma to Floyd’s neck, where if a knee was on it for a prolonged period of time there would have been hematomas and physical injuries to his neck area. Also toxicology reports showed lethal amounts of fentanyl and other drugs in his system. These findings should have taken precedent over the sidewalk film relaying only a partial view shed of what was happening on the other side of the squad car. Anyway, enough said…..

Actually sometime morons actually come up with a good idea.
The US has a history of intervening in Haiti, and it might be time for another intervention.
Restoring some sort of stability in Haiti is in the interest of the US or we will continue to see mass migrations into the US, not all of it illegal since many are approved for asylum.
Even if you believe Trump can (temporarily) stem the flow, Rs won’t be in power forever and stability in Haiti is also important for humanitarian reasons.
Prior interventions were successful with minimum US casualties. It should also not be done unilaterally, previously troops from Brazil and other countries were used.

My opinion of the George Floyd case (not that anyone cares) based on all I have read and videos I have seen about this:
When the officers came to arrest him due to a complaint about Floyd trying to pass a fake counterfeit bill at a store there, Floyd swallowed some drug that was in his possession as police moved in. He also did a great deal of resisting and struggling with the police when they were trying to put him in the back of the police car and was Floyd was clearly agitated. He was placed on the ground, and officer had a knee on his upper back–the officer did not have a knee on his neck. The toxicology report that came back said he had a large amount of drug X in his system–enough to cause his death. I think that and his agitated state did more to contribute to his death than the knee on the upper back. I do not think the officer should have had a knee on his upper back at that point though. He was cuffed and laying prone on the ground. I wonder if he would have had the same “I can’ t breath” statements and die anyway–even if the officer did not have a knee on him.
Somewhat similar to the Daniel Penny whacko guy who was in an agitated state on the subway who died while being subdued from his threatening behavior.
A shame we had so much turmoil, destruction, injury and deaths in various cities for many weeks after Floyds death. All that mayhem had no positive benefit for anyone.

Floyd also has a lot of other illnesses including heart disease and high blood pressure. Agitation that Walt mentioned, serious/untreated medical issues, and the fatal fentanyl dose, doomed him.

Specifically, In the plea agreement, Chauvin admitted that on May 25, 2020, he willfully violated Mr. Floyd’s constitutional right to be free from an officer’s use of unreasonable force.
