“Interesting, coup underway in Damascus by Hassan Louka, Assad’s chief of General Security and Assad’s point man on moving Syria out of Irans orbit and more towards the Russians. Possibly a Russian sponsored coup.”
Zelenskyy is begging for a way to get out of the war, and save face at the same time. His soldiers are mutinying. The Ukrainian people are rapidly favoring a quick end to the war. Putin has only strengthened his position. I doubt NATO wants to have Ukraine in its pact of countries. As for Trump, Zelenskyy has made it clear he only wants to deal with him.
One thing for certain the war will come to an abrupt end in 2025. Whatever conditions are worked out between the two warring countries the results will not be as good as was worked out back in 2022 for Ukraine. Russia will take more territory. NATO membership will not be approved. And, hundreds of thousands people will have died in vein (many unaccounted for). There will probably be demands for a new presidential election to see who the people want to lead them out of the shambles of the war era.
Bitter you are locked into mischaracterizing comments you don’t like. There’s a big difference to factually disagree, from just making things up like you and Jason do. The discussions here can still be feisty, but have less heat if you two would try less to push so many buttons.
the results will not be as good as was worked out back in 2022 for Ukraine. Russia will take more territory
Zzzzzzz. There was no deal worked out in 2022. There was a demand by Putin that Ukraine surrender. If it had done so, Putin would just have made more demands.
It is remarkable that Jan has such reverence for the Founding Fathers who required massive military aid from France to win and such contempt for Ukrainians trying to remain independent from a brutal tyrant, Putin, far worse than King George III.
You and Tina make up many lies. There was no deal. Putin was not forced to order the invasion. He alone chose to do it. He alone could have stopped it.
Bitter, get it through your thick head that it’s YOU who are determined to continue a war exhausted inhabitants are no longer behind! This has nothing to do with “Founding Fathers,” or “contempt” for the Ukrainians, but rather compassion for an embattled country whose citizens are dying, deserting the army, or fleeing the country.
As for your question about best president. The primary reason Trump cited Clinton was because he presided over the country during the dot com boom, where the economy was flourishing creating one of the last surpluses. Being a business man that factor was in his wheel house of interest. As for Reagan – you mimic the very “cultist” behavior which you mock others, in seeing him in a hero-worshiping way. He was a great president. But at the time of his reign Reagan was demeaned, derided, called a reckless cowboy, just like Trump is called Hitler. The passage of time has seen a shift in Reagan’s stature, as it might well do for Trump if given a chance to enact his policies without too much obstruction.
There was a legitimate construct of a deal that both sides were willing to sign, until discouraged to do so by the UK (Boris Johnson) and US. (John Kerry). Links were earlier provided, which you either glossed over or did not read, as you dismiss any evidence to the contrary to your opinion.
Trump will never be as great as Reagan because Trump stands for nothing but himself. Trump was a good President and I hope he will be again but that is all.
”So Jan admits Trump cared only for money and had no conservative principles. ”
Did I say that…or did I say “ Being a business man that factor was in his wheel house of interest.“. Hmmmm…..Trump went to Wharton School of Business indicating a proclivity for business. One can have both conservative principles and generate a profitable livelihood can’t they?
If there had been a deal in place, why didn’t Russian troops stop at the borders of that deal? Why did Putin order attacks on civilians, hospitals and schools hundreds of miles away from the borders of “the deal?” Simple. Putin is a KGB thug and there was never a deal.
Can one have conservative principles and spend decades donating to hard core leftists like Reid, Schumer, Durbin and the Clintons while also supporting Planned Parenthood and partial birth abortion like Trump? No.
LOL. Trump, like Reagan, did not start off as a Republican nor as a conservative. Both evolved over time to embrace America First policies.
When Reagan was president, this involved a global peace through strength approach to the USSR, as the USSR was, in its own words, seeking global domination. Reagan did not have to deal with the invasion at our southern border and the selling out of our national economic interests that occurred under the Bushes, Clintons and Obamas.
Trump has watched our country be swindled out of its birthright by globalists, by NeoCons who exploit the administrative state to rob us blind, to see how our own government is controlled by Pharma and AgFood lobbyists, the military industrial complex (as EISENHOWER warned us…big liberal, right, Bitter?) and the flow of narcotics and sex-slaved children crossing our borders.
And dont even get started on China, the true threat to the US.
You folks dont get Trump. You didnt understand Reagan if you think he would be aligned with the Cheneys, Bushes, Kristols, Romneys, Ryans, etc.
Whatever conditions are worked out between the two warring countries the results will not be as good as was worked out back in 2022 for Ukraine”
Of course, there was no deal.
There was a Russian “proposal” for unilateral surrender of Ukraine’s sovereignty, only acceptable to the Putinistas, no one else. It was rightfully rejected by all parties that were not subordinate to Putin.
n for an embattled country whose citizens are dying, deserting the army, or fleeing the country”
Hmm… and who is to blame for that?
The victims or the Russian aggressors?
Tough question for janzam, the Putin Nurse who only has contempt for the victims of aggression, bombing, kidnappings, missile attacks, exile, rape, displacement, genocide.
The Russians responsible for that? Her heroes.
You know, there have been a lot of disgusting and despicable scum here over the years, but I think janzam might just take the cake.
in 1952 he was being courted by both the Republicans and Democrats to run on their ticket, eventually choosing the Republican Party as he saw the change coming
he was the original Rickerfekker Republican. The conservative at the time was Taft from Ohio and he lost out. Eisenhower was more Bush than he was Reagan.
btw as for Cheney, Romney, Kristol et al. They all suck. I don’t see anyone here defending them. Literally no one. They were all opportunists
I am not going to do the back and forth on Ukraine. I have posted about it here ad nauseum and it doesn’t move the needle. Unless you have stepped foot in country during the war you don’t know what is really happening with the Ukranian people, can say what they want, or what their mindset is. Getting information off of “no endless war” websites is akin to getting inside Trump campaign info from MSNBC.
I won’t argue. Jan did mention NATO before. No one here has mentioned, nor do you realize how much of an issue that was in causing the war. You are correct in saying NATO membership is off the table in any deal.
A deal will be struck soon. It will look like the one I have talked about for months. No one will like it, either side. This was preventable. Biden was too weak and Putin saw an opportunity. It is all very sad.
”Yet almost three years on, with Ukraine’s frontline defences in danger of crumbling, Zelensky’s popularity is fading and very few Ukrainians envision him as their next president.
Just 16 per cent would vote to re-elect him for a second term, according to an opinion poll of 1,200 Ukrainians published this week by the Social Monitoring Centre in Kyiv. The poll, the most comprehensive study of electoral preferences since the invasion began in 2022, also found that about 60 per cent would prefer Zelensky not to even stand for re-election.”
The Podcast. It’s amazing to me how many people have an opinion of what is going to be on the podcast, when none of what was purported, or projected to be on the podcast will happen.
I, despite what I have read, do not want to live in a silo, nor look in a mirror and hear myself speak. I have spent my life engaging those who believed differently than I do in order to gain perspective, not deride them. Imagine attending Columbia University and not only helping revive the College Republicans, but also the Conservative Club there. Needless to say, it doesn’t make you popular…which is good. I learned how to gain respect.
The podcast WILL NOT be an echo chamber, in fact, very little time will be dedicated to discuss the “deep state” or “retribution” or even pros and cons of each nominee. Trump is the President. He has the right to nominate who he wants. He will be judged on how he governs with those people in place. In fact, some topics for the podcast are:
1. A recap of the past election, Polling hits, polling misses and why the continued bias in polling exists
2. 2024 Election. A Trump mandate, A repudiation of Biden, or a bit of both
3. What went wrong with Harris as a candidate. What the polls tell us. And why are media types hell bent on saying she was so qualified.
4. 2025. What off years in the past have told us about the future, and what to expect
5. What will change in polling in 2026 and 2028? Will they learn, will they revert, or will it become obsolete
6.. Rivals or Enemies? Can Republicans and Democrats coexist? And who the hell are these Independents?
7. If people always say “These are the 2 best candidates to choose from” why do we get candidates people don’t want?”
8. Is there Trumpism to build on or is over when he leaves the stage?
None of those attack the beliefs of Jan, Chicon, OA or Tina. I, for one, want all of yall in the big tent. I don’t feel the need to agree with everything you say. I don’t agree with everything Jason or Bitter say, and let them know. There are posters here who also contribute their view of things, which differ at times with all of us, and agree with us most of the time. DW, Walt, Phil, the Jeff’s, etc
I think yall should give the podcast a listen. And as far as I remember, podcasts don’t require any registration or info to listen, other than was you need to login into the platform they are on, which has nothing to do with those doing the podcast.
LOL. Reagan wanted a strong West to counterbalance the USSR and its stated intention of global domination. The US was threatened by the USSR.
Russia is not the USSR. Russia has no designs on America. Russia kept its agreements with NATO, not the West. NeoCons have pushed and pushed since W.
It is not me who needs to study history. It is you.
It is not me who doesnt understand the difference between America First and neoCon conservatism. What you folks call conservatism is Wilsonian Democratic globalism.
I never said that Trump was a conservative. He is America First. He is conservative on some things, noninterventionalist or libertarian in other areas.
NeoCon ideology is impotent in the GOP. Some of you can hang on wanting to bring back that old-dated world view. Join the Rockefellers, Fords, Matthis, Weickers, etc. on the trashheap of GOP history. Or follow your fellow America Last folks into the DEM party. You will have more like-minded company there than in TRUMP’s AMERICA FIRST GOP.
Lincoln did not expect to be reelected in 1864 until after Atlanta was captured. Churchill was replaced as Prime Minister within weeks of the defeat of Germany.
Jan will celebrate when Zelensky leaves office and is replaced with somebody who will bow to Putin.
Jan. Quoting your article in full, rather than tidbits you favor:
“new elections have been suspended indefinitely under martial law that was introduced at the start of the Russian invasion in 2022. The vast majority of Ukrainians support the move, citing the dangers and logistical problems of staging a nationwide vote during wartime.
“I don’t believe Zelensky’s support is so low that he lacks a societal mandate on issues of war and peace,” said Illia Ponomarenko, a Ukrainian journalist and the author of I Will Show You How It Was: The Story of Wartime Kyiv. “The problem lies beyond that.”
Zelensky will not be President after the war. Which is a good thing. The country will need a reset, and can’t do it with him as President because they will be reminded of the war. That is not a conviction of his handling of the war, it happens after most wars.
But both of those quotes repudiate the sense that he suspended elections against the majority, which is false. and it also rejects some rhetoric seen on some sites that Ukrainians are ready to give up and lost faith in him. He has the support of the majority of Ukrainians, and will till this is over.
OA – if the people you deride so much leave the party (not the cheney’s, but middle of the road Republicans who still believe in social issues, conservative fiscal policy and a strong national defense), the America First Party will never win another election.
Better than to deride, is to figure out how to find common ground and win together, rather than lose apart.
Vic, numerous war analysts have said that joining NATO was the major sticking point for Putin in negotiating not to invade Ukraine. Had that been settled before any invasion, along with Russia keeping Crimea, the probability of Putin invading Ukraine would have been significantly reduced. Perhaps if Trump had achieved a 2nd consecutive term he could have been the peacemaker deterring such a destructive, needless war.
I am not disagreeing with you, Victor. But HHR isnt a microcosm of the GOP as it exists today or the GOP of the forseeable future. HHR, by Bitter’s choice, and he is the sheriff, is a place where America First GOPers/patriots are attacked, ridiculed and disrespected without ANY attempt to “find common ground and win together”. Trump won DESPITE them, not because of them or because they as a whole found common ground with MAGA.
By far, I am probably the most conservative on social issues of anyone here.
I think your post would be better addressed to the sheriff and the playground bully instead of me. I am just shooting back at them today when usually, I let me better self just ignore them.
OA thought this site would fail. Now he wants to decide who can post and what they can say. He wants an echo chamber. I don’t.
Trump did not win despite me and actual conservatives. He won because people like OA and people like me gave him our votes. I have voted straight R since 1986. I’m not going anywhere. OA will just have to accept it. Unfortunately. MAGA purists like him will probably sit out in 2026 like they did in 2018 and 2022 if candidates aren’t Trumpy enough.
BTW Vic, I think the subject matter you recommended as topics for discussion, in a pod cast, were interesting as well as apropos. I personally believe both parties have already significantly changed, in not only the demographics of their constituencies, but also in the purity of issues which used to be the core of each party. That would be topic worth exploring too.
sorry. Both sides use language and instigate fights. It’s not a one way street..:and once it starts we all lose track of why.
I believe we will all (the party and HHR) will find a way to all live together, as we did this election.
I don’t think I’ll ever be able to stop the back and forth sniping, but you can’t blame me for trying.
now, back to those podcast topics. Open for consideration to hearing more that will bring a broader audience to HHR and will also discuss serious issues
If anybody ever finds Deep State, its members should immediately be fired. They obviously sucked at the number one job of being a secret group – being secret.
OA thought this site would fail. Now he wants to decide who can post and what they can say.”
He should start his own blog.
Only certified litmus tested MAGA people will be able to post and anybody not posting 100% approval of 100% of what Trump does will be immediately banned.
We knew this would happen. Trump won by expanding the tent, winning a big share of the black vote, Asian vote, and even prevailing with Latino men. He made inroads in blue states.
But the Cultists are already claiming that doesn’t matter, only MAGAs won the election. OA is already insulting the groups that Rs will need to be competitive in future elections.
I thought it will fail, for sure. I acknowledged that I was wrong and how Bitter had done something I thought could not be done.
But this site is not the same as the original. Less posters, less meaningful content and much less impact on the public discourse of politics.
That is because the sheriff is not Dave, who was NOT MAGA and not a conservative but who never engaged in attacking the original’s posters nor tolerating, once he was aware of it, the bullying that accounts for the majority of the posts of the resident bully nor would he have tolerated the same bully hijacking every conversation.
The heir site is a far cry from the original. I enjoyed the first one. I enjoy some of the attributes of the new one.
OA- You must have been at a different HHR. Dave didn’t engage at all. He didn’t stop anything. The only posters who got banned were IP 727 and terrorist loving Knova.
By the end, Tgca was dominating all threads with hundreds of posts. You remember Tgca? The gay MAGA vegan who described my niece’s suicide by hanging and blamed me for it? Repeatedly. Maybe you enjoyed his accusing me of inappropriate relationships with teenage girls.
I have to agree. At the end HHR became unreadable. I literally had to scan through hundreds of texts to get to any meaningful content. A lot of good posters had left
there were many phases of HHR. 04 through 08 election probably saw the highest number of posters, though it could be said that epoch went until 2012. There was an adjustment and shift from 12-16, then another one after Trump took office which lasted until after the 2020 elwxrikn
each was a bit different, and had different contributors. We are in our nascent phase right now, but hopefully before the next mid terms we can rise again with a blend of old and new
It is interesting to see Bitter salivate over Reagan. There is plenty of reason to do so. Of course, Bitter would have hate Reagan if he were old enough in 1976.
Bitter hates “Republicans” who primary sitting office holders. Reagan did that. Reagan also ran against the establishment Republicans. He was the outsider. Bitter is the ultimate insider. He would have hated Reagan in 1976 and would’ve held the grudge forever; that’s how he rolls.
Why don’t you ever list the anti-establishment candidates who tossed away winnable Senate seats? My personal favorite is the one who had to run ads on the critical issue of her not being a witch.
Trump is an establishment New York City billionaire who spent most of his life as a liberal Democrat and Democrat contributor and is on record as saying Democrats have the best economic agenda, deficits don’t matter, and health care should be universal and funded by the government.
Bitter, which Republican candidates who have entered a primary against a sitting Republican office holder have you ever supported? The list is likely zero. Then tell us again how much you LOVED Reagan, who primaried Ford.
Reagan in 1976 was everything you allege you hate. Grow a pair and admit it.
Jason, Bitter universally is against Republicans who run against sitting office holders. Not my rule. His. I’ll let him explain, since it is his rule. Thanks, though.
The greatest President of my lifetime was JFK. He was able to show force with a naval blockade turning back weapons and military supplies. More importantly he demanded the removal of missiles and destruction of missile sites already built in cuba. This also prevented the expansion of Soviet and Cuban into latin ans south america.
this certainly prevented the threats by two dictators and highly potential escalation of military activities.

Can we move on to something else?
