Vance won on substance and did a good job of effectively stating that when Trump was president things were much better with regards to the economy, border and immigration. He hammered it home on his closing.

  6. look, it was actually nice to see a civil debate, one where the candidates were able to talk policy without too many petty attacks.

Walz is not a VP, or should even be a governor. He is a liar, was called out for being a liar, and Vance, to his credit, allowed the moderators to call him a liar. Trump would have been repeating it and jamming it down Walz throat. Its much more damning to Walz’s credibility that it came from the moderators.

In no objective judging of this debate could someone say Walz won, or even held his own. He is not in Vance’s league, didn’t look like someone who could step into the Presidency if called up. I mean OMG, can you imagine this guy as President.

He was overmatched, and to his credit, he didn’t melt down and kept trying, but it was like the freshman squad scrimmaging the varsity team stacked with seniors coming off a state championship.

Of course, Trump won this years primaries…..I’ll vote for him and his VP pick, JD Vance.

Youngkin can prepare for 2028 and 2032, or for 2036 after President Vance or DeSantis.

I thought Vance did a very good job using an effective lawyer tactic. Essentially, kill with kindness. “I respect what you are saying and I think there are things we do agree upon BUT you are so F’ing wrong.”

He also hammered the point home during the debate that Kamala Harris has been in office for three and a half years, and nailed it in the closing statement. She is the status quo, not the change.

On style, Vance blew Walz out of the water. He was poised, charming, gracious, and positive. Walz alternated between glaring at the camera and looking like a deer in the headlights. His non-answer on his Tiananmen lie is going to stick to him for a long time,”

“Okay. Thought there were real problems with the moderators again, no surprise there, and for attack dogs, they sure wasted time on subjects appealing to a small slice of the audience, but that was probably a strategic choice. For the Taylor Swift crowd, maybe childcare does count for more than a port strike where your child might not get formula or food in a couple of weeks.

Walz had blithering idiot-itis in several moments and went off the rails in his attempt to sidestep direct answers about “What would Harris do.” Then, the China disaster was all his. He is also not a comfortable figure to watch on stage – you get a sense there’s a frenetic energy just barely being held in check, and the leg kick or weird arm gestures are bustin’ to come out.

He’s big on stories and short on facts.

JD was masterful, even on subjects like abortion and, again, the childcare issue where it seemed as if Brennan wanted him to formulate a complete plan to watch the nation’s babies 5 days a week right then and there and would badger him until he said how and how much.

He acquitted himself admirably with grace, good humor, and a vicious intelligence.

I did like the nice little moments between them very much.

We didn’t get enough of his views on foreign policy because they literally only asked one question, which he answered very well.

Overall I think he’s very intelligent. Thinks about his answers and I also feel, from what I have seen, is he is not afraid to admit a mistake. I admire that in a person. I think he will be a fine VP

Walz – Solid C – He did not break down as I thought he would, he definitely shared and stayed with the party line, and didn’t resort to cheap shots. The debate was very civil and I liked that. He is an old granpa whose stories are about as believable as Oliver Putnam’s (only murders in the building reference…a show you should watch). He seems like an ok guy, but I am still wondering how on earth he got to congress, much less Gov of a state. The disaster of being caught by liberal moderators in a lie will be his defining moment

I think he did better tonight than Rubio or Scott would have (and I like them both a lot). I don’t know enough about Youngkins to know how he would have done.

But the guy is bright, well spoken, advocates well for positions, and what I learned most, is he’s not afraid to admit his position was wrong if brought enough evidence. I think he would make the change on his isolationism once he got to office and head to deal with the world on a daily basis.

I now feel good about voting for the ticket, and I would, humbly, recommend that you do as well, considering your vote matters more than mine in Texas. You make your choice, and I respect it as I respect everyone here, but I would ask that maybe you look into Vance a bit more. 133. Meh, Bitter, you know Tina does it to get a rise from you, and actually likes and respects you a lot. We all do.

With that said, I think you’d want Tina back if she left. She’s a lifer, like we all are.

  134. Jason. I don’t have an answer to that question. I had written a long answer to this, but it would all be speculation at this point.

I’ve seen enough though, that knowing the differences between both he and Walz, and Trump and Kamala, that it’s in the country’s best interest to vote, and to vote for Trump/Vance, even with reservations. I can honestly say, I don’t believe he’d be as much of an isolationist as we think. I believe, after seeing him more, he’d be more pragmatic than we are expecting.

  135. Just remember 2016. Neither of us voted for Trump because we were afraid of what he’d be in office. he far, far, far exceeded my expectations, and in general (not on every point) but in general, I believe he was a very good President. I think Vance would be as well.

    Ah yes.

Have we discovered what “guvmint asset” planted the bombs yet?

  137. I don’t decide who stays and goes. You all appreciate her contributions more than I do.

I have been coming here since July of 2004. I can’t escape it. I am sure I overreact to things but my world changed in 2020 and I don’t handle nonsense as well as I used to.

True, but you have to make decisions based on the information at hand.

  139. You were wrong in 2016, right in 2020, and wrong now. Maybe you will be right in 2028. I probably won’t be around to see it.

  140. Jason, you have to do you. I am just giving you my view of things as someone who has/had similar reservations. My whole career has been based overseas, and many years of that dealing with foreign governments. Still do. It’s not a secret I am very involved in Ukraine. I value how important our foreign policy is, and to have a robust one that is based on the concept we will protect our allies.

I think it’s important to cast a vote for Trump/Vance. You have to do what you think is best for you, but I think I have enough to cast my vote.

  142. I was super busy tonight so couldn’t participate in the thread discussion. However, I did stream the debate and thought Vance handled himself well – courteous, informative, good eye contact, and non-confrontational. My grades mirror Vic’s – an A- for Vance (the minus because he did not correct some of Walz’s most flagrant lies), and a C for Walz because he got thru the 90 minutes without falling apart. I did think, though Walz’s body language and facial expressions, neck jerking around were annoying. Vance was completely different – composed, mild mannered, not frantically taking distracting notes….and those blue eyes were very attractive.

    Zzzzzzz……

I never regretted my vote. GFY.

After Trump became President, like JD Vance I thought he was fit for the job.

You call Vance an isolationist too. Are you wrong?
